Echo stumbled and staggered through the forest. She hadn't been here before, but she was merely following scents. Her family had moved without her. That showed, her at least, how much they really cared. Mama and Daddy never really did like her, she believed, and so this came as no surprise to her.

Sighing to herself, she continued on, her head hanging low. It was obvious that she no longer really cared; her fur no longer shone in the sunlight, her eyes were dull and didn't show any sign of her cheering up, and her tail hung motionless behind her. Not even the wind seemed to want to keep her company on this dark and gloomy day.

"Echo should just go away. Don't even know why I'm going back. Mom and Dad won't want to see me. Mama will just get mad again about that boy. I didn't even get his name!! Sheesh. And we were only playing tag. It's not like anything ever happened from someone playing tag. They just don't understand, they never understand!" The words in her head were bitter, and quite full of anger, which was really surprising for the runt. Never before had she felt this way.

"Sister.. she said again silently, though this time the word held more affection than anything. Her twin was the only one who understood her, probably because of their strange connection and their ability to mind-speak with each other, though it was a bit hazy. But what was so unusual about it?

Mama and Papa were just jealous, she finally concluded. They couldn't do it, so they simply outcasted their daughter because she had an ability that they didn't.

The almost-adult shook her head. Things had been so much easier as a pup.

Randomly the runt stopped. Her large paws were not so large anymore as she grew into her adult body. Pretty soon she would be old enough to take care of herself, and her parents wouldn't have an excuse to baby her so much. Ophelia and her would go off together, they would scope out a life for themselves. They would live together, love each other like good sisters and look after one another. They would be like true family, always there and never cold to one another. They would stick together, no matter what, and even if one of them did something wrong, she would be forgiven.

Yes, that's what they would do. Now all she had to do was get her sister out of there. Kalia would most likely be easy to avoid, being as, when Echo last left her, she had been sulking almost the whole day in her den. And if she knew anything about her mother, Kal would be doing that for a while yet.

Her father, however, would be a bit more challening. Before she had left, she had heard something of pack plans being discussed between her parents. Were they actually going through with the plans? The female stuck out her tongue in disgust. Her parents seemed too... she couldn't even think of the word.

Frustrated now, instead of the former determined, Echo wuffed and look up. Angry eyes caught the forms of a squirrel family. Hmph. Family.

Not wanting to look at such a scene, she moved onward. No longer did she speak to herself in her mind, taking away any clue her sister might have had to her presence. But they were nearing each other, and the wind had picked up. Perhaps a scent would be carried...

Shaking her head, she stopped again and looked up. No creatures in the branches whatsoever. Echo smiled weakly. Her life had been in shambles the past week or so. She had been alone, scared, and cowardly, running from anything that so much looked at her with a curious eye. She knew she couldn't defend herself, and that was why she was so hating towards everything. She couldn't speak for herself, couldn't even catch a darn rabbit.

Was there any place for Echo in the world?

Echo wuffed, her posture now one of a broken wolf; her tail hung limp, her head was low... everything. Confidence had long left her, back around Phib's packlands, though she knew not that they were his. Everything along the way had frightened her. Well, all but that little pup, Malik. He had actually made her feel better amongst all of her anger, fear, and sadness. He had roused up the pup in her, and she had played with him for quite a whlie before it seemed they were forced to part and take their own paths.

Wishing she could see him again soon, she had run off. Her short and thin legs hadn't been able to carry her very far. Eventually, however, she had ended up here. It all seemed like a blur now.

And here she was. "Here Echo is," she repeated in her mind. But why was the runt here? Finding herself very confused and at the same time angry, a bad combination for her, she growled and flopped down against the tree. Afterwards she went straight into a ball, not even caring that she was getting her pelt filthy with dirt and leaves.

What did it matter anyways?

But then she heard a voice. Because of her pinned back ears it had been slightly quieter than it actually was, but she heard it nonetheless. And she recognized that voice in an instant. How could she not? It was her twin!!!

"Ophelia!!" she called, raising her head and rising immediately to her paws. Her tail un-tucked itself and slowly began to wag--perhaps the first sign of happiness in a while.

Echo couldn't help herself, she just had to bounce up and run straight towards her sister. A collision had almost taken place, but she found herself alert enough now to slow herself down and merely take her twin's almost-tackle.

And that was something she had noticed. Ever since she had 'gone out on her own' she had found herself more observant, more alert and wary. She had to be, what with her being alone and the only one there to look out for herself. It had become a practical skill, and the runt had made sure to keep herself non-drowsy and had always made sure to fully awaken herself before leaving whatever shelter she had occupied for however many nights.

"You! You!" she repeated suddenly, giggling and wagging her tail furiously. She couldn't believe it! Here her sister was, all fine and healthy. Never had Echo ever dreamed she would find her sister again, and especially before her parents. But they didn't matter. At least not now. So she shoved them from her thoughts and merely focused her attention on Ophelia.

"Ophy!!" she exclaimed in her head, delighted beyond belief at finally having contact with her again. It had seemed terribly lonely without someone capable of receiving her thoughts and responding to them. "Well, here Echo is!" she laughed, finding her thoughts to be a bit more mature than she had last remembered them. Had her time alone done that to her?

Not really caring at the moment, the female simply shrugged and gnawed on Ophelia's ears. Oh how she missed being able to do so!

"I flew, Ophy, I flew!" she then exclaimed, jumping to her paws and doing a twirl in the air, also not wanting to dampen the joyful mood with silly talk of their parents or what had happened while the two had been separated. She had run so fast it felt like her paws werent' even touching the ground anymore. And that, she believed, was flying.

Having been away for a few weeks, Echo was pretty much uninformed of all the going-ons of her family. Yet it was probably for the best at this moment that she was ignorant in that field. She was already pissed off at her parents as it was, and the fact that their father had practically forced Talamar away wouldn't settle well in her stomach.

But no matter. The female yipped loudly and rolled over her sister, laughing still as she fumbled over herself and seemed to fall onto the ground with a light thud. It seemed her twin wasn't the only one with a bit of clumsy-ness. "Missed you!" she repeated, still trying to nibble on Ophy's ears despite her being on the ground and in an awkward position.

Yet her sister's mentioning of it being them against the rest of the world made her begin to wonder again. What exactly did she mean? Had something happened with their parents that had set off the other siblings? Hopefully nothing too bad... she wasn't quite certain of what she'd do if she had to confront her parents about some of the issues.

And suddenly her spirits were lifted again. She remembered her twin saying something about them flying away. That didn't sound like such a bad idea! "Yes! Fly away, give Mom and Dad time to cool.."

Ophelia turned, as if she could see them far off in the distance. "Yes..." She spoke. Ophelia had not yet been ready to think that- but now, hearing Echo whisper it in her mind, she knew that was what they must do. "I never thought of it like that, Echo. We must do it, I think." She turned her head towards her, and shifted her tail. "How can they force us when we are grown? I think they need time to cool. We need time to cool. Talamar left." She spoke at an end, and lowered her ears. She did not add the part about their vicious argument, or the later confrontation with their father.

"There's nothing left for us right now. Mum and dad will be fine. They still have Kirra to boss around- yea?" She spoke, looking directly at Echo now. "We... I think we should go someplace else for now. But- I don't know how to take care of us Echo... do you?" Ophelia squeaked. It was no secret she was a horrible hunter. She had only barely begun lessons when the fight between the family had broken out, and even then, she was horrifically clumsy.

"I want to be good at something. I think we should move away from here though. Make distance."

Echo whined. All of this news came not really as a shock to her, but still somewhat surprising. Never had she thought that Talamar would leave, out of all of the siblings. Yet she had noticed that he hadn't exactly been happy with the family... only Kirra. It hadn't helped that the sisters always managed to leave him behind to confront their parents, either.

Suddenly she felt horrible and like she should simply fall of a cliff and go splat. But then she thought of her sister, Ophelia, and instantly thought better of it. No, it wouldn't do to go torturing herself. Her sister needed her, and she needed her sister. They both needed each other if they were to really go off on their own for a while and take care of themselves.

"I don't know! Don't know.." she whimpered, lowering her head in shame. If there was anything she was sure of, it was that she was a complete failure as a wolf. Not even could she catch a simple hare! Mice, perhaps, but those weren't at all filling, and neither were they tastey. Fish only made her sick. And it was true, the runt had survived all of this time on her own, hadn't she? That had to prove for something. But then, why did she feel so useless and helpless?

Still whining, she crawled closer to her twin and licked at her paws. "I don't know. But we need to get away. Mom and Dad might be a little angry, but I think they will also be happy for the alone time. And Kirra will be fine, I think." She had always been fond of the awkward female, despite her being so condescending and lowly. She had been a good friend, giving good advice and such. "Remember, Kirra lived with them long before we came." She wasn't sure if it was really that long, but she supposed it was long enough.

"We will go though, yes? I think it would be for the best. We will look after each other and somehow manage..." She sounded confident, though didn't feel an ounce of it. She whined again.

Echo calmed and let out a great sigh once she felt her sister's head along the back of her neck. Things were so troubled now, not like they were when the two had been mere puppies. Back then the only concern was how they would sneak away from mum and dad to do a little exploring. Now what haunted their minds was whether or not they would have the ability to catch themselves enough food in order to keep them alive.

Not quite sure, though knowing very well that they had to be skillful enough if they were to do this, she whined. "We can," she then repeated, a surge of hope randomly bursting through her veins. She felt little confidence, however, and her voice now quivered with evidence. The runt whined again. They would need to go somewhere, somewhere safe and to a place where they were welcome. Perhaps to a pack, but then what? That would be the same as hiding away from their parents, and that wasn't what they were doing. Merely, they were taking a break.

Yet then her sister's next words upset her and cleared all but thoughts of disownment out of her head. "Disown!?" she squeaked, rising slightly. Now Echo grew suspicious. What had gone on while she was away?

But she forced herself on, knowing too well that thinking too much of one upsetting topic only had a horrible outcome. "Mice..." Small things they were. The two twins would most likely have to catch more than their fair share to get in enough or to even take the edge off of their hunger. But they would do it; they had to.

"Then we will be like Kirra and catch mice, until we can catch other things, yes?" Yes..

The female then thought. Where would they go? A sudden rustle in the bushes next to them--though it was too small of a noise to be their parents--alerted her. "It doesn't matter where, sister. We just have to get away from here." And with that, she turned and trotted off, hoping very well that Ophelia wouldn't feel enough hesitation to stay behind.
