It could just be me, but I always thought there was just one island. In KH1, there's the island where we are introduced to our loved protagonists. But then in KH2, there's a cutscene with Kairi on another island looking at the island we all got to know. Anyone care to explain?

It's actually Desinty Islands. Meaning more than one. The island Sora is on in the begining it far too small to have a school, and several houses.

It could be somewhat like Hawaii, a bunch of separate tiny islands. I think.

I believe there's a main island (the one with Sora's house and Kairi's school and whatnot) and the island you play on in KH1 is like their little playground. They each have a boat that they'd row from the main land to their island.

It's prolly because you could only go on one side of the Destiny Islands in KH1...and the animators also didn't have a need to make other islands. x3

Actually, in KH1, it kind of hints there are more then one islands. Like, when Sora is in his room and he looks out his window TOWARDS the island.
I guess it could have been assumed that his room was on a boat or something though.

They each have a boat that they'd row from the main land to their island. yes when the destiny islands are being consumed by darkness, Sora runs on screen and sez "Riku's boat...and Kairi's!" ...so in other words they all went to thier playground thingy, Sora:to see if everything was okay. Riku:because he realized that was the only way off the island. and Kairi: to...hide in the secret place i guess... confused

when you remember... sora was at home and from his window he could look at destiny island... so this is the other island...
they just played there... i know what you mean cause from destiny island you don't see the other island!

iI think it's just their little play island, or it could be that they inhabited that island that kiari now lives on and during the 2 years that Sora was asleep, they built it. It might have been deserted, or somthing.

Erm...Destiny Islands. Keyword: Islands.
There was more than one.
If you saw when you played in KH1 you saw no houses. Only docks and shacks. There was probably another island where they lived and went to school.

remember in the first game they had boat to go to their houses meaning that they had to go to a different island to go home

Yeah, the Destiny Islands is an archipelago- a chain of small islands, relatively close to each other. One appears to hold the little town and school and such, and the other has the treehouses and docks where they played in KH1. But yes, KH1 was pretty misleading, as I don't think they showed anything else than ocean surrounding the island...
