Don't think I've seen a thread about this here (or at least, one that is still being used), so I figured it was about time one was made, since it's such a part of the otaku/fan lifestyle.
I've been a cosplayer for about 5-6 years now, but usually am able to get to one or two conventions a year due to where I live and the whole..money thing. sweatdrop Most of my costumes are crossplay, since I tend to not like a lot of female characters or their outfits, but it's not really a stretch sometimes to look male anyway, since a lot of guy characters are pretty girly. ^.^
So, does anyone else cosplay or attend conventions? ninja

I've always wanted to. There was a convention going on only 45 minutes from my house and my cousin went to it but i couldnt go. ;_;
He said there were tables and tables of manga. (that would've been heaven for me. xD)

Most of the conventions I go to are out of state, since where I live there aren't any. Well, okay, the high schools put one on...but it only lasted like an hour and I was just like.."no. just no." and refused to go anywhere near it. sweatdrop xd

I think it would be awesome to go to a convention and dress up. Actually for me it would be awesome just to dress up as one of my favourite characters... sweatdrop

Started a commission: Tsunade from Naruto Started for self: Kijin from Yami no Matsuei whee heart heart It's going to be freaking expensive, but I love the character design and for some stupid reason I want to do an elaborate outfit... sweatdrop

Most real cosplayers, in all honesty, don't care much about personal appearance, but more about the quality/appearance of the costume. Though you occaissonly (...or quite often, depending on the con) get the people new to it/out of costume that will point out every little personal flaw just so they can think they look experinced.
I got some crap over my Kyo (Dir en Grey) costume because I'm a lot taller than Kyo, and my 4inch platform boots didn't exactly help either. But to most serious cosplayers, something like that isn't such a big deal... I'm a tall female, and secondly I'm not a 5 foot tall Asian guy. That's not gonna change, and experienced cosplayers ignore stuff like that.

I would absolutely love to cosplay seriously, but there just hasn't been enough time what with schoolwork and all. So most of my cosplays are just outfits thrown together to "resemble" a character.
