I always enjoy to read/reply to topics about villains blaugh Good fun, no?
So, who are your favorite villains from books? And, on a similar note, and if applicable, what kinds of villains do you like to write about?
Let's see . . . . as for mine; I like a few from the Harry Potter novels, but most of them are kind of up to debate on whether they're villains or not razz I liked that dragon person from The Two Princesses of Bamarre, and I'm not even a big dragon fan. What was her name? Anyway, she was interesting. I'll look up her name later XD I just realized that a lot of my favorite novels don't have set villains O.o; Like, the Earthsea Cycle. There is no real villain in that. No wonder they're so dull . . . . Just joking, mostly razz Oh, Count Olaf and Esme from A Series of Unfortunate Events are great('Hee hee happiness!'). As for what I like to write . . . . Erm, I'm too lazy to write that out right now, lmao. I'll post again later razz

I think one of my favorite villains, who in this book is also the hero but is made into the villain, is the wicked witch of the west in the book "The Wicked". It really puts a perspective of evil, basically something thats evil to 1 persone may not be evil to someone else, it was cool! Another one of my fav. evil characters was in the book "A Brave New World" in this case the evil villain was a society of clones that controlled its members by drugs, soms, and brain washing, I really liked that book, does that count as an evil villain?

I tend not to like villains who are . . . well, obviously or actively evil/antisocial villains. Or read many books with them in, come to think of it o_O If I had to pick a favourite antagonist, it would have to be a character probably no one's heard of from an obscure, probably now out of print book called The Song of Phaid the Gambler by Mick Farren. There's a hyper-intelligent non-human in it called Solchaim who manipulates a drug-addled female president from not-quite behind the scenes. His species, the elaihim, try to keep themselves to themselves but are constantly harangued by barbaric humans in a post-apocalyptic future. He himself has acquired ironically human qualities, including bouts of cruelty and the desire to set the intelligence hierarchy straight (elaihim at the top, humans like dumb pets beneath them).
I really liked him and sympathised with him as a character. It's hard to describe him or his abilities without him coming off as cliche, but he really is quite original and was definitely a more unique 'villain' type character. He would psychically goad the protagonist later on one way or the other, sometimes rendering him helpless under torrents of affection and encouragement and other times instilling abject fear with god-like mental punishment. That section of the book is a real rush. One of those who was probably doing something quite justified and logical, but silly humans and their selfish desires being the protagonist and his aims in life got in the way.
If you like primitive sci-fi-ish novels, I really recommend the novel, by the way. Way underrated and far too obscure for its value D:

I have three favorite 'villians', if they really are villians. R.A. Salvatore's Forgotten Realms have the main character, a drow ranger named Drizzt Do'Urden. And then there is Artemis Entreri, an human assasin who has finally met his match in combat, Drizzt. He often sets out doing villianous things, but more often than not, ends up helping Drizzt... because he was in danger, and if Drizzt dies, they could never find out who is the better. Along these same lines is Jarlaxle Banrae, a mrecanary drow oportunist. I'm not quite sure who's side he's on, so maybe I shouldn't count him as a villian. Oh, wait, he's on his own side! Silly me...
There was someone else when I started writing this but I totally forgot who it was.

OH! Raistilin from Weis and Hickman's Dragonlance novels. He's.... both a good guy and a bad guy, betraying his 'friends' and twin brother (He's so mean! All CAramon ever did was care about him, even puting him before the woman he loved and all his friends!), but saving the whole world.... I think I counted four times for sure. Lessee...
A) dropped Takhisis's sheild so Tanis could kill her B) sta;yed in the Abbyss so he couldn't destroy the world C)Gave Palin the staff and tools to wound Chaos D)HElped the gods find the world after Takhisis stole it. HOW CAN YOU BLOODY LOSE A WORLD?

Since this is a topic about villians, I just wanted to know if anyone has read the....6th Harry Potter, and if the think Snape is a villian or not?
I don't like villians, though. Just so I'm not completely of the topic.

I think he's a very . . . . multi-dimensional character sweatdrop Nah, really though. I still think he's one of the good guys. Spoiler ----> That thing with Dumbledore was totally fake. Snape didn't really kill him. That's just my thought on the situation, though. And, eek! Everyone mentioned such interesting villains! But . . . . I've never heard of most of them O.o;

End of spoiler razz

There is a villian I liked in a movie, actually. Have you ever seen SE7EN? It is about a guy who kills one person for each of the seven deadly sins. Like he makes one man eat and eat and eat until his stomach lining bursts. That is for gluttony (SP) I really liked the one for pride. He found this girl who was so pretty and could only live if she was pretty and he cut off her nose and she passes out (of course) and he bandaged her so she would live. He glued to her right hand a phone and sleeping pills to her left. She could either live deformed or kill herself.
((she killed herself))
