I definately appreciate any feedback/ ideas/ suggestions from guild members. So let this be the place to post your thoughts on improving the guild, or just a suggestion for something fun. Whatever is on your mind, let us know.

First question:

I made a subforum for Camera and Equipment discussion. Does anyone have an idea for additional subforums? Would you like to see one for posting photos for feedback, or a separate one for assignments. What would be the easiest?

    O: A new guild!

A seperate subforum for assigments would be interesting. But I think the main guild board should do fine for posting pictures for feedback. Because otherwise there's really nothing to post here. xD
Well, apart fom maybe my rants at being forced to use black and white film for my school assigment.

Maybe something for questions, where you could ask for tips and assistance and whatnot? Not necessary of course, but you know. If you like keeping things neat. xD

Subforum suggestion: technique discussion? I'm not sure. Also another idea for a subforum I have is a subforum for people just beginning photography.

A photography FAQ thread? A sugestion. xD

As a note/sort of addition onto Shampoo's thought:
Composition thread? not an entire subforum, but just a thread explaining good composition, how to make one, etc. As I notice a lot of photos submitted that are good, but could be a lot better if they were composed better.

That would be cool. Maybe a sticky devoted to how to improve your photography (in a nutshell). A photography FAQ type thing as xxClyde suggested.

agreed.

edit: Another idea would be a multimedia sticky. Applying photography to other mediums, photomanipulation, and different techniques people use/should try. People could post work they've done, and describe the technique they used. People could also come with questions on how to do different things with photomanipulation. The different techniques could be organized and posted in the first few posts, and it could be pretty cool :0

Great ideas that you've got guys. I think it would be great to implement those stickys and am thinking that I will leave it to one of the new mods who gets selected if that's cool with them.

Photomanipulating subforum; the line between photomanipulating and photographing is really thing, so why not to mix these two together in this guild?

since there is a techniques subforum, perhaps the composition sticky should be moved to that section?

and since photomanipulation is as much technique as anything, it could probably be lumped in there too, unless people are afraid of it getting lost. It

Well, there IS differences between editing photo and photomanipulating. I think, that there would be more people, if this guild wouldn't be based on JUST photographing. Besides, there is lots of people (included me), who photographs for to photomanipulate those pictures, not for any graphical or visual settings and there is also differences with photo editing and photomanipulation (actually, there is lots of them, so it's kind of stupid to put them in same bucket).

(And often photomanipulators and photographers have really different values, what comes to photographing; photomanipulator doesn't give damn about how the picture is taken, merely how big the picture is and does it have any potential to reproduce it where as photographer uses much more different equipments and technology in right way. I'm not speaking about amateurs, because they are playing totallyt different league than pros.)

I agree. I'm just thinking that many of the technical concerns of the manipulator are similar to those of the photographer who does their own darkroom, or digital processing. And so for me, make sense to go under technique.

Showing and discussion the artwork could go in a picture post subforum, perhaps. I don't think there is a need for a seperate subforum just for photomanipulation. Especially since it is so hard to define what qualifies and why.

Ie. it's all art. Technique - regardless of what label the art falls under, goes in technique. And images, likewise, go in a picture post. Just my two-cents. I'm not a mod, nor have any desire. I'm just trying to keep us from having a billion subforums, and not knowing where some type of information might have been sorted to.

But like what we would have in technique? Compostion, ok, it touches every art form, but like combinating cameras own techniques and photomanipulation as a technique...isn't it pretty much different?
I understand the concerns about having too much subforums, but by thinking about photo techniques...isn't it mainly just how you take the picture, not how you do the after touch, or in other words, finish the picture (which is THEN pretty odd place then to add something like photomanipulation)? I don't see it as a technique, that you do something with photoshop, when you are finishing the picture (just like many of our country's top photographers). Or if you see that subforum like that, I would heavily recommend to rename it again.
It could be renamed (or at least clear it) again anyway; something, which allows also techniques with camera, but also with computer.

I guess I put all the darkroom and digital darkroom, including manipulation, editing, color correction, output, etc. Together in my head as techniques.

Hard to say. The difficulty we are having drawing that line is part of what makes me not want to seperate them into subforums.
