As a few of you know, I know most of the directors of the convention personally. After having a few days to relax and recoup, they're beginning to ask for reviews and suggestions and whatnot.

So what I need from you is an honest, constructive review of JACON this year. Try not to say things like "This event sucked" but rather "I didn't like this event for these reasons." What can be improved, and how?

Also, include some suggestions and things you would like to see, as well as positive review. In about a week or so, I'll pass this thread along to those persons so your voices can be heard!

Thanks for all your help! heart

I myself had no real problem with the convention other than being unable to see the musical or the costume contest because I didn't stand in line.

arrow Excellent idea to move Artist Alley. All the artists I spoke to loved the improvement.

arrow Wasabi [imo] did a great job covering the rave in Sushi's place.

arrow I think the website wasn't as informative as usual. A LOT of misinformation was floating around as well as questions that could have easily been answered on the site. ^^;;

Overall, I'd say the convention was smashing, though I could point out a couple of things...

1) Game Tournaments: A little more organization next time. The sign up sheets were a mess around noon. Perhaps the use of slots to fill names in would be in order.

2) To continue, maybe try to accomodate the maximum number of controllers to each machine. It's a shame to see Super Smash Bros. Melee running at only fifty percent player support.

3) Anime Showings: Love the setups. However, the airings were mostly unlocalized showings. Fact is, there aren't many chances to see these (I'm really kicking myself for missing Gaiking: The Legend of Daiku Maryu), so perhaps the showings could be pushed back a bit further, starting a smidge around noon or so when registration has been going for a while.

Of course, this is just me, and this was a kickasstacular event to kick back at during the end of the college term.

I enjoyed JACON this year.
The, Masquerade Ball, was my favorite event,
and I'm hoping it'll be held next year also.
It gave the Con goers a chance to look their best,
and have fun at the same time.
Looking your best in a costume,
just can't beat a beautiful gown, or suit.

1- I thought the rave was wonderful.Wasabi did a good job with it.
2- The masquerade was alot of fun, but it would've been nice to hear a couple more formal songs. It was supposed to be a formal event, but it was mostly just alot of dirty dancing. A nice event though.
3-The events didn't start on time. The few of the events I attended started about an hour after they should've. I know it happens and it's hard to get proper time lines, but just an observation.
4-I loved that the artist alley wasn't smushed in the back of the dealers room. It made it alot easier to look through art and enjoy what people were selling rather than being smushed against a table.
5-I actually don't really like the idea of the costume contest and the cosplay contest being smushed into one. It meant less people could enter either event. Some people just want to cosplay. Some people just want to have their costume judged. I would've liked to have seen them be seperate events.
6-It'd be nice if the website had been updated a bit more often. Again, I know things happen.I know it's really hard to be positive on events, but I was clueless to what was going on at the con for months.

All in all it wasn't a bad con. I had a good time.^^ It was nice to see everyone, and I can't wait for next year.^^

I thought it was good. This was the first time I'd been to Jacon, so I don't really have anything to compare it to last year or anything. But I had a good time, and have no complaints.

I think last year is generally considered the worst, and this year the best. That's what I gather anyway. xp

Anyway, there's not much I can say that hasn't already been said, except that they better come up with an idea to ease the crowding at the major events. It took like an hour for the people at the AMV thing to get seated. Yikes.

my only complaints

arrow over crowded on saturday more so than last year, when i say this im mostly talking about the dealers room...i wish the hotel would expand the area for a little more walking room

arrow have a back up of glow sticks for the rave...i heard they sold out extremely fast (more of a personal complaint rather than a con complaint)

I had a great time at JACON. They made my first JACON a memerable one. However, the website ranted and raved about how strict they were going to be with the Ball's dress code yet they weren't. I felt like everything was well planned for the most part. I think that JACON should do more advertising with anime sites so that we can get t to a convention center *coughOrangeCountyConventionCentercough* And more people can enjoy its wicked crazy fun atmosphere.

NO. WAY.

Hotels are WAY better for several reasons:

- 24 HOUR EVENTS. Convention centers close at some point in the night, hotels are open all night.

- Ease of attendance. Hotel: Drop off purchases in hotel room. Freshen up/change [10 mins away from con]. Convention center: Leave con, find car or wait for bus/trolley. Get to hotel down the road. come back [fight for parking?] [Minimum 30 mins away from con].

- Localization. It's a LOT easier to mingle and meet people in a hotel rather than being sprawled over a city.

etc etc etc biggrin

Well, all I know is that the gaming tournament was a little unorganized. Like the super smash bros. game had only two controllers that I saw at the moment.
And other than being just a bit crowded. I thought it was alright.

Moving the main events area: I found it once last year and that was on sunday morning. sweatdrop This could just be my bad sense of direction, but It was hard for me to find. I didnt even bother to look for it this year, and just spent alot of time in the viewing rooms, and the dealers room.

Kyaa! I had a LOT of fun! I was so busy, though! So much stuff to do and so many people to meet up with wow! But I did make it to the Gaia meet-up, which I was happy for. Thank you to everyone who I got to hang with! I have a few pictures to share when I get the links set up! Yay!
Thank you SushiRaverSammi for the awesome pen and Gaia pin! Woo! I'll be sporting them at MetroCon if I can go, too! ^_^v
Chibi Blinks, you alwyas make me smile big time!
Kiss, you looked adorable! That dress rocked! I wish I could have spent more time with ya! It's always super-kewl to see you!
Toshiya-chan, I think I saw you for a split-second, but we were heading in opposite directions! Rawr! And I had my Ryu-hou pic with me! Darn! I hope you had a fun time!
Next time we are SO playing MadLibs! My friends and I played it at Denny's while we were down there, and it created inside jokes for us to cherish forever. xd

Oh yeah... more specific opinions about Jacon... Artists Alley in Main Event hall = excellent... being Dark Mousy = awesome... hotel staff was a lot nicer last year... weather = freaking gorgeous... deli food option = great... masquerade = not for me... rave = whoa! Crowded o.O; ... drink the bartender in Limbo made me & my friend = super delicious... hentai viewing with comments and random black-light checks = stupendously hilarious... costume contest = insane... and I know many people will disagree with me on this, but I think making the Masquerade so formal encouraged people to be less creative and wear store-bought prom dresses and suits. This saddened me. And so did the 80's songs being "ghetto-ized". However, everyone else seemed to love that. *Shrugs* All in all, I had a fantastic time, though, and I still really love that hotel. Sitting on the edge of the pool in cosplay while holding my black kitty umbrella as a parasol felt like I had traded places with someone famous or something. It was just heavenly! Ohh~la~la!
