This is a thread for those of you who are having a problem with a certain power metal band, and want to get it off your chest (or mind, or fingertips wink ). For example: if a friend of yours said something about power metal that you KNOW is not true, this is the place to put it.

A friend of mine keeps saying that Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Manowar, and Dio are all power metal in every way. I've TRIED to explain to him that none of these bands are technically power metal, but he doesn't seem to want to listen. It's getting on my nerves, too.

I say they are like the start of power metal... I mean they did lay down the path for the more "Powerful" Power metal bands we have today. They are not power metal in every way but more in the way that I am who I am because my father is who he is... Thats just how I see it...

And of course I have to rant about somthing... Dream Evil! lmao all my friends who do not listen to as much power metal as me say that dream evil is a joke band thats only being funny like gwar or nanowar... Not! I mean I have laughed at the song "Book of heavy metal" along with the music video but I know there not kidding around when they have awesome songs like "In flames you burn" and "The chosen". My point is people think there just dream evil is a joke band but they are a decent band.

I hope people agree with me about these matters... lol

I've never heard Dream Evil, to be honest. But every time I hear that name, I think of the Dio song. Dream Evil must take a lot of their influences from Dio. I have heard great things about it, though. One other thing i'd like to rant about: JAG PANZER!! I NEVER see any threads about Jag Panzer in the metal forum. Thane to the Throne is INCREDIBLE! It would seem that Jag Panzer is fairly underrated in this account.

Because they are power metal bands, does not make them power metal bands themselves.

In their own right, they are heavy metal bands. It's always been that way, and it doesn't change. Traditional Heavy Metal laid the foundations for power metal as we know it, the same as classic rock laid the foundations for Heavy Metal. That doesn't make those rock bands metal and similarly doesn't make heavy metal, power metal.

Dream Evil, for the most part, are a modern heavy metal band.

They've got power metal influence, they've done power metal songs, but the majority of their stuff is heavy metal.

They're not a serious band.

They're by no means a 'joke' band, but their songs are for the most part, light hearted. Their music is cool and fun and their stage antics are goofy. I've seen them once, and I am SERIOUSLY looking forward to seeing them again. They're a very good band.

Dream Evil is power metal I care not for what you say... If you have heard more then a few of there songs then you will notice that almost all of there songs have a medieval theme and that its all about swords and dragons... Just read the titles of there songs for crying out loud... "Kindom of the dammed", "Chaseing the dragon","Crusaders anthem" and the CD title "Dragon slayer". There power metal reather you like it or not.

Actually, Manowar did the medieval thing, so did Saxon. They're both Heavy Metal bands. The song titles don't mean anything. Stratovarius sing about peace, nature and running gayly amongst the flowers, that doesn't make them Bob Dylan.

I've got all three Dream Evil albums, and I've seen them live. Don't base your opinion on song names. They're a heavy metal band.

Besides, it's not like the genre matters, they rock just as much whether they're PM or HM.

I have all there CDs aswell... I am useing the song names to point out the obvious.... I mean after you hear all there stuff you can see what they are...
Most bands don't put themselfs into a genre because they don't really care...
For example I got to meet Sonata Artica a few months back after a concert and everyone was telling them there there favorite power metal band...
Tony said thay are not power metal and just music... Everyone there was like WTF?. As you can see most bands don't put themselfs into a genre because they really don't care... As far as I care Dream Evil is power metal and for all you bodom fans out there bodom is not power metal!!!!

But it's not up to the bands to put themselves in a genre.

If you gave every band a choice, they'd be saying that they weren't able to be classified into a genre because they're so radically different. Hearing Dream Evil is exactly what would let you know they're a heavy metal band, and your song name theory sort of falls through when you consider that there's an album and a song called 'The Book of Heavy Metal'

I never know with Dream Evil...I mean, sometimes I want to scream at them to get a different writer...heh. But, you can never really know if they are taking themselves seriously or not. I mean, Rhapsody is sort of like Dream Evil and they are very serious.

Now that I am thinking about it, I would consider them heavy metal...I mean, they don't play fast like power metal, they have two guitars instead of the traditional one guitar, one keyboardist, drummer is kind of slow...

I think the lyrics will confuse them as power metal...I mean, if they wrote something else other than 'slaying the dragon'...it might be more recognized.

It also has Armored Saint, Dio, Manowar, PANTERA, Rainbow, Queensryche, and Within Temptation in the list and they're DEFINATELY not Power Metal.

And this is why...

They don't take themselves seriously. They're quite tongue in cheek with their stuff.

For example "Are you a man or a mouse? MAN OR MOUSE!" and "I am so ******** metal and so is my wife"

Although the music is consistant and great through and through, they're not writing SERIOUSLY about being small four legged rodents or marrying into a metal family.
