Glad you asked!

Step One:
Create the Banner
You can compile a group of images, write some text, start from scratch, anything you want... We're not picky. Make it in Paint, MS Paint, Photoshop, ZeBrush, or any of the assorted artsy programs out there. You can even make it animated!
Try to avoid saving them in bitmap, or .bmp format, those take up more room in your hosting account, and take longer to load. whee

Step Two:
Host the Image
You know Photobucket, ImageShack, those nifty websites? Well, we're gonna need you to host your homemade banner onto there.
Don't know what I'm talking about? Check out these websites:

Step Three:
Make the link Smallish!
This is pretty much optional, but most people have other things in there sig, and need your image's url to be as small as possible. Take it to tinyurl or tinypic, and you know what to do.

Step Four:
Gimme.
