I am learning to make stone knives from my father, its quick becoming a favored hobby of mine and soon I will learn to carve the handles for the knives. I am thinking of making myself an atheme and I was wondering who else might consider useing these as I might start up a small store for these kinds of knives. They are made out of Obsidian blades and I will be using an ebony handle on mine but I have access to mammoth ivory or any other type of wood. Also if asked I will bless the knife I send with either a personal blessing from a particular god/dess or a general one just from the high goddess. If I become advanced enough I might be able to inlay gems and stones and such... Post your thoughts or ideas about this please

I like the idea. If you did it professional, you'd have to consider a lot of different things before starting up though.

-Psychotic Faerie- I like the idea. If you did it professional, you'd have to consider a lot of different things before starting up though. Quite so. Copyrights, finding a place to sell them, finding a supplier for your materiels, the various financial and legal issues, etc. Either way, alot of work, but a good idea nonetheless.

Yeah, unless you can handle what WellThen suggested, I suggest that you stick to making them for yourself and friends.

Well, there arnt any real copyrights I have to take care of... i make everything by hand and I dont take other patterns or anything... i dunno bout legal issues besides selling knives to minors and such... i have all my matrials for a little bit and supliers are easy to find, and financial... meh maybe, but once i get it started it should be easy

If it wasn't because I live in Denmark, and it's probably not legal to send knives via air-post, then I would deffinitely buy one.
Do you need a special permission to deal with such things, where you live? Because then you should get one.

I dunno if I need permission, I doubt it, Id have to sell them under my dads name though... and I could totally sell you one, just air ship it, im not like carying it on the plane myself... though i could get through airport security twisted no metal whatsoever!!! mwahaha! not that i would...

I think you'd need a seller's license like WellThen suggested. If you just sell stuff out of your home, you could get in trouble if the government found out. I think. You'll definitally have ot do some more research on the topic of your responsibility to the seller and the state you sell from. But tell me how that goes, since they sound interesting.

Yes, a seller's license would be needed. And the main copyrights I was talking about, would be putting one on the knives themselves. That way, any patterns you use for it couldn't be stolen, as well as any names, personal logos etc. that you would want to use.
Financial issues are alot bigger than you'd think. You don't only have to take into account for the material costs, but also the shipping costs, the border-taxes, any taxes the governement would put on the product, marketing and a couple of other things I'm sure I'm forgetting.
(By the way, I'm not trying to discourage you! I think it's a great idea, I'm simply telling you the simple facts of starting things like this.)

PS... for those interested in divination I am looking into making "black mirrors" of obsidian... google black mirrors if you dont know what they are

Last bit of advie I can offer then, would be set yourself up before starting the sales. Make your ebay pages look professional. Good marketing is just as important as good products.

It's a nice idea, but I don't think I would use one. I prefer folk or sympethetic magic, so I don't really use an amthame. It's good, it's just not my style.
