NewFoundLight you do not look Native American, like really you don't neutral Compared to what? A spaghetti western Indian? blaugh I just hope you're referring to our skin and not our clothing... The Cherokee are a very light skinned tribe. Most of the dark skinned Cherokee that have dark skin tend to have a strong African heritage as well (we were a primary hiding place for escaped slaves both before and after the Civil War). Further compounding our light skin is the matter of mixed blood. Very few full bloods are still around, since love doesn't discriminate in our culture. I'm have on paper over half Native ancestry. That doesn't change the fact that my skin is rather pale. So sorry if we aren't as impressive as you had hoped. If you want dark skinned Natives or ones in teepees and head dresses, I'd recommend someone who isn't of a Southeastern tribe. The Cherokee simply can't live up to popular media stereotypes. 3nodding

Sorry if I came off as harsh or implied that I thought you didn't believe me. That wasn't my intention at all. I merely wanted to clarify. Don't worry, I'm really hard to insult or offend. ^.^ Though the " neutral " face might not have been the best one for you to use. ninja

Anyone can become insulted, but offended is a different matter. Like if I said I hated that guys' face *points her tail tip to a random guy* He would officially be insulted, does not mean he would be offended...though likely he would be...
But I see the indian in you, personally.
*shrugs* I don't think you'd be able to tell that I'm part indian (who the heck isn't around here in the U.S?): But I'm told I'm part Creek indian. There is a more specific tribal name but I could never pronounce it and forgot how to say it. But that's why I have a ''natural sense of direction'', according to family.
The other part of me is Irish. At least that's what I'm told.
But I'm impressed by the pictures and the costumes and that you're proud of your heritage. It's good to know about family.

Bah, try hanging out in M&R for a while. blaugh I've had conversations where I've been condemned (directly and in no uncertain terms) to Hell four times in one thread a while back (by a member who has recently joined this guild, no less heart ). I've listened to a guy try to "explain" to me why Hitler had the "right idea" about Jews (using the Bible to "justify" the Holocaust) and tried to convince people to expand this to all minorities. To be honest, I'm hard to offend because I'm jaded. Unless someone is intentionally insulting me, I see no reason not to simply address it as an honest slip of the tongue. ^.^

That is very interesting. It kind of makes me want to look deeper into my heritage, though I don't really know what information I would probably need to know to trace it back.
I actually have Cherokee blood, also. I'm not sure how much, exactly, but I know my great-great (I believe it was) grandpa was full-blooded Cherokee.
