Korvaa (Northern Desert Town)

This is far less welcoming than its Western counterpart. It is supported by a small waterhole, which is supplied by a small underground spring surfacing here. It can barely support its own people, so if you turn up here with no warning, you better be making yourself useful if you want to survive. It's extremely poor, and this is reflected in the (ahem) quality of the architecture. Don't mess with this lot. They're a tough bunch. They need to be.

After the Winter Festival on the chilly water level Makota decided it had been time to warm up. He had come to the light level. The heat seemed a bit too much to say the least when he first arrived. Through travelling he ended up in this village. It was a dusty wasteland compared to what he had seen on his arrival. The water supply was limited and now it seemed as if he was stuck here.

He raised the farming tool above his head and swung it into the firm ground. He dragged the end towards him. The ground raised and settled again. He was amazed that any crop was able to survive such harsh conditions, yet there was a rather bitter tasting root vegetable that seemed to be able to cope. He didn't appreciate the taste like the locals, but it was the only food supply available.

The locals worked hard to keep this vegetable alive and for shelter and food he had to do the same. Makota longed to be back in the cold water level with Fyrinae. That beast-woman was scary but even she would have been welcomed if she could get him out of the burning sun and tiring environment. The sun was beginning to lower into the dusty and hazy horizon. He heard a whistle. It was the signal that everyone could return to their homes. With a sigh he began to trudge back with a few other individuals that worked for the village.

Dirt and dust stuck to his body. He looked filthy just like all the others who had been working. He was lucky in that the villagers had helped construct a small hut for him. The houses were all poorly built wooden and corrogated sheet metal dirty huts. Some were bigger than others bu that seemed to depend on how many accomodated the hut. Makotas had a uncomfortable cot with some dusty, rough woven material for sheets and blankets. The temperature dropped to be quite cold in the night but that was only in comparison to day time temperatures.

Before everyone went to sleep, each night all the villagers gathered at the centre and they prepared broths and various food assortments with a small portion of meat and the bitter vegetable. He socialised with the villagers until finally everyone drifted away to their huts for the night.

Makota piled several blankets onto himself as he curled up on his uncomfortable cot. He heard a few bangs on one of the walls of his hut. "Come in." One of the villagers came in. It was the one that had found him out in the desert while he was dehydrated and disorientated. The man was one of the workers who helped farm the vegetables with him.
"Good Evening" said the young man. Makota smiled.
"Good evening, what brings you here tonight?" he replied.
"My father asked me to come and see if you were alright. He said you weren't looking too good at dinner tonight."
"I'm fine, it's just that I would like to leave here soon." The young man's face droppedat Makota's words. Realising what he had said Makota quickly carried on. "Don't get me wrong. Everyone here has been very generous and giving it's just I want to return to my home on the air level. The only problem is I have no idea how to cross the desert." The man still didn't look to happy but he seemed to understand Makota's feelings.
"I'll speak to my father..." He smiled weakly before leaving.
"Thanks" said Makota as he once againc urled up in his blankets and tried to sleep.

Mato sunk to the floor, the desert had been too much for her and trying to harness her magical ability she teleported her way across the desert trying to find who that familiar scent belonged to.

Staggering past the town gates she looked up at the night sky, "Its much stronger here..." and then, she fainted.

Makota was awoken in the morning by a slight commotion. The heat was already noticable and it was still early in the day. He staggerred out into the bright light. As his eyes adjusted to the intensity he continued walking in a slightly dazed fashion until he regained his focus. The first thing he noticed was all the villages gathered near the old wooden town gates.

He approached the crowd to see they were encircling someone. Someone familiar. He rushed over and quickly asked the others to help him carry the weak body to his shack. They placed her on his cot. "Get some water!" A villager ran from the shack. "Mato...? Mato...? Are you okay? Answer me...?"

Someone was calling her. Stirring she clenched her fist; uncomfortable.
That was the first thought that came to mind when she began to stir. She was on some bed, with scratchy material and she didn't like it. Not only that but her throught was dry, her tongue felt like sandpaper.

What on earth!? Why...Oh yeah. That smell...

Groaning she rolled onto her stomach and pushed herself up off the cot.

"Am I alive?" She tried to look up, and around the room but the nausea kicked in, she fell back on the cot and gritted her teach as the nausea tickled her throat.
