Linshaw City This is an amazing sight to those who have never been here before. Most of the city is protected by a shield, which prevents flooding, but different areas are protected at different times of year. Only the very centre is ever completely protected by the shield. The entire city is constructed from tall spires built in a blue material, and they are not only accessible from the ground. Indeed, most of them are better accessed through higher openings using the stone walkways strung between them, or submarines when flooded. The very tops of the spires jut out through the ice, and are coated in a layer of snow throughout most of the year. These are the best ways to reach the surface of the sea.

People milled around aimlessly, as they had been for several days now. There was a larger than usual tourist presence, as happened at this time of year. It was widely regarded that the changing of the sea wall was one of the more beautiful occurrences in Geopolis, so there were always crowds. The structure itself hung between the air and the sea. Every now and then a shimmering line of light would coruscate across its rippling surface as it caught the sun. That rainbow was all that was visible of the energy barrier; otherwise, it just seemed to be like the water broke off suddenly. Occasionally a fish would break through and flop pathetically for a moment before a passer-by would either put it back or, sometimes, eat it. The tourists were easy to spot by their close examination and slight mistrust of it. Everyone who lived here was used to it by now. In 2 days' time, the sightseers would outnumber the citizens by two to one out here by the wall, and so security was extra tight. Nothing would be allowed to go wrong. Nothing.

The carriage finally came to a stop, not to metion it was rather abrupt. As they were stopping a screeching could be heard, was it brakes? Everyone thudded to the ground aside from those who were strapped in. Pushing his way to his feet he thing he may have used a man's face to assist his balance. As well as actually treading on what he could be a woman's leg as he did hear a scream as he did so. Climbing out of the carriage in a new land felt great.

Fyrinae stood up and looked a bit bewildered. "Hum, it us'lly slows down a bit once it enters a level so's we c'n all go 'ooh' and 'aah' 'cos 's pretty. Guess sum'b'dy screwed up." She glared meaningfully at the operator. She reached up and took off the helmet, fluffing her hair into its usual dishevelled style, and wobbled out into the city. "Hah, this 's strange, I c'd walk earlier." She looked around a bit, and pointed to the left. "Tha' way!" Then she fell over.

Karma stumbled out of the carriage after all the other dishevelled looking tourists just in time to see someone fall over as if they were drunk. She shook her head for a few seconds to get rid of her own dizzyness then walked over to the lady holding out a hand. "Are you okay?" she asked smiling at her.

He turned to see her fall to the ground. He hurried over but another was already helping her up. He stood nearby "Fyrinae!" he said as he continued approaching. "Are you alright..?" Quickly remembering his manners he turned to the other person "Nice to meet you" he held out his hand to greet them. It was clear he was a bit nervous by his whole slightly uptight manner.

Makota looked up as she had done. The colours were beautiful and were like nothing he had ever seen before up on the air level. Muttering slightly he spoke but he was slightly mezmerized by the walls. He was part beast so I guess they caught his attention a bit easier. "What is...is... the changing of the walls?" he asked.

Karma was about to introuce herself but the glittering of the wall caught her eye just like the others, in fact nearly everyone who had come out of their compartment and frozen on the spot staring up at the wall towering above them. She stood completly transfixed waiting for Fyrinae's answer to the guys question.

Fyrinae tore her gaze away and searched in the recesses of her brain. Some time ago she'd taken the guided tour, and was trying to remember what the woman in the unflattering blue polo shirt had told her... Ah, yes. "You see," she recited, sounding more normal already, "There are several phases of sea level here. In summer, a part of the city must be surrendered to the sea in order to stop the sea level rising as some of the surface ice melts. In winter, that part of the city is reclaimed as water levels fall. This means that the barrier to keep the city from totally flooding must change position twice a year. Since it is heading towards summer, the barrier is to be brought back and the water allowed to gradually flood the outer reaches of the city. Each change is a different experience, and is always potentially dangerous. But, as you can see, the colours become more vibrant around the change, as for a short time both barriers are active at once. Tha's all I know about it. I g't bored an' wand'red off to chase the fishies." She walked forward a bit. "Y'know, 's even better right up close."

He shook her hand. "When did you learn all of that? I assume you have visited this level befor Fyrinae" Though now speaking with Karma and Fyrinae he was still partially watching the walls from the corner of his eye.

"Oh, yes! I've been here before! It was awesome but I missed the change." Fyrinae sounded a little sad saying that as she shook Karma's hand hyperactively. "I'm Fyrinae, that's 'Ferranie' with a 'y'. Ya wanna go watch it? I dunno when it'll be but 's soon, I think. Then I c'n get going down to Shadow. Not that I don't 'njoy it here, 'course."

"Nice to meet you F...yrinae" Karma replied havig trouble pronouncing the unusual name. "I'm heading back down to the Shadow level as soon as I've put up a few flyers" she told the other girl showing her a poster "We could head back down together if you want?"

"You come from the Shadow Level?" questioned Makota. "What is it like down there? I have never been there." He inquired to the person who was talking to Fyrinae.
