A lot of people Ive met who say they want to be writers are mostly concerned with writing novels and poetry, with maybe some childrens writers tossed into the mix, but Ive never really met anyone who wants to write speeches. I know theres a market for this sort of thing, someone has to write the speeches for the corporate America and its not the CEO's a lot of the time.
So do you write speeches? More importantly, do you enjoy writing speeches? How does it make you feel to see a speech performed infront of the audience and see their reaction or to recite your own speech?
This topic was brought on by recent events in my own life - I was asked to write a speech for the G.E.D. graduation ceremony coming up in my town.

I've always found the idea of someone writing a speech for someone else to be...interesting. For instance, the American president often does not write his own speech, as I am sure many world leaders do not. Which sometimes makes you wonder, who is writing the speech?
But to actually answer your question...I've never taken any interest in speeches. I hate sitting through speeches, and am certainly not interested in writing any myself.

Why do you dislike sitting through a speech? Are the speakers taking too long or something else?

I write speeches occassionally due to school stuff. I've been told I'm good at it, though I didnt win anything for the contest last year. Usually theyre informative speeches, if not persuasive, but I've been thinking about writing something humorous for a change. I can get a little dark and depressing sometimes...

I can only write funny speeches... so I've never really thought about doing speech writing as a profession since whoever hired me would probably fire me after getting laughed at during his first speech xp
