Yami sat on the window pane, in his astroform. he enjoyed being in this form then he liked being trapped within his dark and lonesome, not to mention confusing, soul room. he just sat there and watched yugi sleeping comfortly in his bed. yami wondered what it was like to feel a physical comfort, and warmth. that was the only reason he was jealous of yugi. yugi could feel he was physical. Yami forgot the time when he was a physical being. 5,000 years ago and every single memory was gone. he was just a ghost, and to his knowlege he didn't know what anything felt like, or tasted like, or smelt like.

he sighed, thinking about yugi more. he felt bad for being jealous of him. he shouldn't have been. this was his situation and yugi was willing to help him. for that he was forever greatful and in his debt.

Yami sat there, watching yugi sleeping peacfully, and it brought a smile to his lips. how peaceful he looked. yami's eyes watched him, a sad look in his eyes. he couldn't hold him or be with him. he loved this boy and he couldn't bring himself to tell yugi. he had managed to hide his feeling in his soul room, making sure that yugi would never find out. he had put yugi through enough, and who knew what more would be to come after this. no, no matter what, he couldn't tell yugi how he felt. he didn't want yugi to hate him. he could hear what yugi would say to him in his mind. it ran through his thoughts all the time.

"yugi, i love you."

yugi would look at him devisated and in shock, and after that shock vanished, there was a look of disgust.

"you're serious about this? but you're a guy! you took over my body without my permission and put my life and the life of my friends in danger. you are putting us through all of this and you tell me you love me? i love tea, you know that."

then he would think about what happened afterwards. in one sinario, Yugi would stop talking to him, only letting yami come out for duels, but never saying a word to him. in another, yugi would shut him out completely and yami would never complete what he was here to do. and the final, and most horrifying one was yugi smashing the puzzle into pieces, breaking yami's soul forever.

a translucent tear fell from his eyes as he thought about yugi finding out his feelings. he wanted the other to know, but he was scared. the sun was starting to come up, and he knew yugi had to endure another day of feeling like the third wheel. he had told yugi many times that he was never alone, he had him. that was the closest he ever came to telling yugi how he felt and even then, yugi would brush it off, not thinking more about it. he knew yugi couldn't possibly love him.

Yami watched as the sun almost touched yugi's face. he was mezmorized by the sleeping form before him, and then decided to crawl onto yugi's bed to hold him in his arms for a moment. the boy fit so perfectly in his arms, like he was ment to be his, but yami couldn't imagin that to be so. he sighed and held him still, another tear falling from his eyes.

"i will not burden you with my feelings. i will finish what i came to this world to do, and leave you. you will never know how i feel. i couldn't bear to hurt you. to have you hate me. i would rather never tell you then have you deal with that. i love you too much."

he said kissing his lips lightly before he dissappeared back into his soul room before yugi woke up for the day. he didn't want yugi to know he had been there, watching him sleep, kissing him.

atem chuckled when he heard yugi's morning greeting. it happened every morning, and it made him smile to know that yugi cared for him in such a way that he would ask how he was.

"yes, i am awake. i never got to sleep last night."

he muttered from his soul room

yami sighed. he didn't want to tell yugi how he had been staying up all night to watch him sleep. how strange would that be?

"i don't know. i just never managed to fall asleep."

Yami appeared to yugi like he would normally do when he talked to the boy, actting as if nothing happened before yugi had awoken. yami's back was to yugi so he wouldn't see his face.

"im not very tired."

he said, his bangs over his eyes, a sad smile playing on his lips. the idea of watching yugi sleep was teasing his mind again. he thought yugi looked innocent when he was awake, but sleeping he was a hundred times more innocent looking.

'i need to cheer up. i don't him getting worried, nor do i want him suspecting something. but, how mean of him to wake up so soon after i watched him sleeping.'

he thought to himself, making sure the link was closed enough so yugi wouldn't hear those thoughts.

"you can go back to sleep if you want to. im sure your body needs to recover from school. i can feel it."

'...if only i was real....i could help him stop being so tense. but whenever i want to try, i pass right through him...'

yami 'felt' yugi's hand on his shoulder and he glanced at it. upon hearing the question, yami shook his head, not taking a moment to think.

"there was no reason. i just couldn't sleep."

yugi knew something was up. he quickly turned to face the small boy, with a falsely placed smile on his lips.

"it may just be the excitement from knowing that soon i will have my memoires. soon i maybe able to go home."

but he didn't really want to go home, because that would mean he would have to leave yugi. that made his frown return a little, so he turned back around so the other couldn't see.

'...then i can stay here...with you..'

he thought to himself, and then chuckled. there was no way that yami would say that. he shook his head.

"you wont fail."

he said to him in comfort. he didn't mind either way. if he stayed here he would be with yugi, and if he left, he would have his memoires and body. the thing was if he left, he would be leaving yugi as well.

"i think im going to go back into my soul room."

he muttered, knowing that if he stayed out too much longer, yugi may just get ahold of his thoughts. he sighed. he didn't want to leave. he wanted to tell yugi his feelings, but he was scared. and until there was a reason for him not to be afraid, then yami would continue to hide. as of late, it wasn't rare of yami to desert yugi randomly and close their connection. yami never told yugi why he did that. he always avoided that question

Yami always managed to keep his eyes away from yugi's beautiful violet eyes. this time he used the escuse of looking out the window.

"no reason really."

he muttered before he glanced over to yugi for a moment.

"i suppose i should know anyway. you have work to do. i guess i can say thats why im leaving."

he said with a very soft chuckle that may not have been heard by yugi
