Was that just before, or around, the release of Sonic Adventure 2? They may have deliberatly leaked info to Archie Comics to get people interested. Was it a story arc, or a short cameo?

I don't think so Sonic Adventure 2 didn't come out till 2001. Most likely is that he either had a small part in the comic and everyone forgot or it is rare to find the comic like it is here. I have only seen one here in stores and that was the newer stuff.
