I keep blabbing about the College Program in a bunch of different threads, so I thought I'd go ahead and make my own thread to discuss it.
The College Program is, well, a program for college students, where you take a semester off of school and go work at WDW. They provide housing and transportation, and rent is taken out of your paycheck.
Basically, if you've ever wanted to work at Disney, this is a great way to get started. Last fall I worked in 'Quick Service Food & Beverage' (aka fast food) at the Liberty Inn, a restaurant at Epcot, but I'm leaving in a week to spend the summer on another program, and I'm going to be working in Attractions this time!
Any questions? mrgreen

You have to attend one of the presentations that they put on at college campuses around the country. There's a presentation schedule on the website where you can find when and where there will be one near you.
For the programs starting in summer and fall, the presentations usually happen in February or March. So it's not something you have to plan wayyy in advance to do. Basically all you have to do in advance is go to the website, fill out the application, print it out and bring it to the presentation.

Careful, it's addicting!!!
I've heard so many people say that the program ruins the magic... LIES!!! Just make sure you go down for the right reasons. If you're looking for a party zone (Vista...ug...) and get caught drinking underage, you're outta there! And if you get kicked out of the program, let's just say life gets pretty sucky since any Disney owned company won't hire you. Ever.
Ok, now that I've scared people off.. no, really, it's amazing. You do have to plan in advance, but by advance it just means finding out the presentation dates and times. I found out one day before the presentation and wow... I was ready. Of course, that was a while ago and I was the only one in my college to GO to the presentation but yeah. lol.
The presentations are fun too! I love to go back. I was a Rep for a while, but not anymore (so don't ask for referral cards). Even if you don't plan on going YET (last year of high school or so), it wouldn't be a bad idea to go to one, or even see the one they have online. That way you can get an idea of if it really is for you or not! ^^

It IS addicting. xd I'm already planning on going back every summer at least until I graduate, when I'll probably move down full-time.
And the magic can only be ruined if you don't care about the magic in the first place! If that makes any sense at all. sweatdrop
One week....!!!

Wow, you ARE dedicated! whee
So are you hoping to do a fall advantage program or just a summer? I'm not sure how widely they offer summer-only programs to first-timers.

My brother did the college program in Spring of 1999 and stayed there till last year! Needless to say, having a cast member as a brother is quite a perk. He also met his wife at Disney. He moved into characters - he was mainly goofy, and his wife did mickey smile I was seriously thinking about doing the program as well, but I'm also in high gear to become an English teacher. We'll see what happens. 8O

I want to do this really badly. But is the income good enough to cover the cost of housing? Also, what type of side classes do the offer and how much do they cost? (If you know >.>). The website doesnt really state costs much. If you live in a house with 4 other people do you all split the $80 rental fee or do you each pay $80 a month? What semester of college do you recommend someone do this? Whats auditioning like?! Do they have any jobs you can train for with Disney but do your job in another state? I have so many questions gonk

Ginger Snapple I want to do this really badly. I have so many questions gonk No worries, I'm here to provide answers! biggrin First of all, I'm not gonna lie, the income is not the reason to do this. Most CPs make $6.40 an hour, and those in food services make $6.90 an hour. But you do usually work at least 40 hours a week, so it covers your rent just fine. Rent is deducted out of your paycheck automatically, and really all you have to spend money on is food - you don't even have to pay for gas if you don't want to. Oh, and rent is per person. Most of the classes offered are related to business and marketing and stuff - I couldn't tell you much more because I didn't take any, but they are free. As for auditioning, if you just mean for the college program in general, you just go to a presentation at the nearest university (the schedule is on the website), and you bring a completed application, and they just take you out a few at a time and interview you there. You can also go to a separate character audition if you're interested in being entertainment. And you've got to go to Florida, sorry. Actually I do think Disneyland has a college program now, but you have to provide your own housing and transportation, so there's almost no point. Hope that all helps!! biggrin
