So, today my mum took us [me & sister] to Panera Bread for lunch. I ordered a breadbowl of "forest mushroom" soup, figuring it couldn't hurt to try. And it was delicious. It was like very tangy cream of mushroom, with a beefy kick.

Their site (and the card that was read to me when I asked what it was) says that the soup is made with "[White button, shiitake, wood ear and oyster] mushrooms simmered in a cream and chicken broth-based sauce flavored with beef base, sherry, onion and garlic." The card read to me only specified that the mushrooms were "imported and domestic," but whatever. The mushrooms were the only real "weight" to the soup, although there were onion bits as well, and the pieces I carved from the inside of the breadbowl while I was eating were nummy.

THIS IS GOOD SOUP. HOLY CARP, YUM.

However, I suggest not getting it in a sourdough breadbowl. The sourdough is delicious, but the soup doesn't go well with it. sweatdrop I also suggest getting something to drink other than Jones soda xd

I love Panera but don't go too often. It is kind of out of the way for me and I would have to go into the most crowded, trafficy part of town. Besides my laziness, nobody in my family like it but me. My boyfriend doesn't like it except for the jones soda and people play their animal crossing games there a lot. And some jones soda I like but with a meal I would rather get tea.

Same. But the way I see it, that just makes it even more of a special treat when I do go 3nodding

I love Panera, especially their honey walnut cream cheese, but I don't find it acceptable that almost all of their non-bagel/bread dishes contain meat.

I don't know what Panera is, nor what a breadbowl is.

Panera is a restaurant chain, focusing mainly on bread products. They also have small bakeries located in certain grocery stores.

A breadbowl is a round loaf of bread with the top and center removed, so that the remainder can be used as a bowl. It is a bowl made of bread.

a similar dish been done in New Orleans and that area for many, many years. It's called a muffaletta, and it's a sandwich most of the time, but you can't wrap your mouth around it. LOL It's filled with whatever you want, though they do have a formal menu with their own specialities... like oysters and/or shrimp. Many of the small mom-and-pop restaurants serve these, and the working class eats em up, especially the fishermen and oil workers.

one specialty is the "wop" muffaletta, which is filled with green olives and chopped onions. LOL There definitely are Italians living in the area (there are 'family'...) and they don't seem to object.

I used to work at one of the first Panera's in my state a couple of years ago...and I haven't been back there since. Not that the food is horrible, but just feels odd going to a place where you know how everything is prepared. They have good customer service and an interesting variety of sandwiches that beat Subway's. It's like a fast-food gourmet place...a good concept. And the menu has expanded featuring good combinations that fit with the current trend in foods. I used to have to read the ingredient listings to customers...and according to what I learned, the food is not filled with so many artificial ingredients. Oh and the brownies and cookies are a nice treat...after hours my fellow employees and I would devour the leftover whole rounds of caramel topped brownies....paradise!

Mmm, I love Panera. I usually get the Mediterranean Hummus sandwich with no cheese and a nice apple on the side. But some days, just a 60-cent sourdough roll hits the spot. smile
