Share your story of how you became a sabbath fan. You can start it even at how you became a metalhead in general.
~ok heres mine~
I had been taking guitar lessons for about 3 years, but i knew absolutely no rock songs, which made no sense because i had a fender stratocaster and only used it to play christian music.
So one day I'm looking through this HUGE stack of music and i stumbled accross a music book entitled AC-DC Back In Black. I opened to the first page and the first song was Back in Black. I spent the rest of the night learning that song untill i had it nailed. Beleive it or not, the first metal/ rock song i ever heard was back in black when i played it. I spent the next week learning just about every other song in that book.
From there on out i was addicted. I thought to myself, "i have to get more of this stuff." So i dug through my dad's huge cd collection, and found 3 cd's with the band name black sabbath. I popped em in, and i was like holy S*** this stuff is amazing. After a few weeks of that stuff i went out and bought the paranoid album. You would not beleive how addicted i was to the stuff.
To further escalate my love of rock and metal, my best friend introduced me to bands like van halen, aerosmith, and guns n' roses.

Oh, boy. I've got a short dud-
It started with my cousin last summer. He got obsessed with the song "Iron Man". I found out that it was Black Sabbath who did the song, and I raided my dad's CD collection. I found the CDs and now I'm hooked. Heheheheh...

Ok, Here's my story. It's Kinda long so please just bare with me and read it, Thanx!!!!
Growing up, I was exposed only to the musical taste of my parents. My mother was a country music kinda gal and my daddy was southern rock all the way. I'm glad for my dad's love in that particular field because it exposed me to a band called "Fleetwood Mac", which would inevitably be the reason I picked up the guitar (the solo in the song "I'm So Afraid" amazed me! I wanted to play just like that and, despite the fact that I have never had a lesson in my life, I can!) Well, I decided to listen to my dad's stuff cause my mom's stuff was boring and awful! I got into Lynard Skynard, Fleetwood Mac, Journey, Bob Segar, the good ole stuff...
Well, I decided when I was 5 (yeah, I was pretty much a child genius, what happened?) that I wanted more music. I finally got my way when I went over to my Uncle Scott's house. His Friend had brought over his CD collection that same day. I was looking through it, typical stuff a 30 something year old man would have... Fleetwood, Skynard, Journey, Cooper, Beatles, Zeppelin, AC/DC, Metallica... Then I saw something that, for some reason, interested me to no end. The CD read "Black Sabbath - Paranoid". Well, I had a very very very very extensive vocab for a 5 year old and realized that Sabbath was the name for "the holy day" in religion. I popped it in and heard "Faries Wear Boots". I was just amazed! I loved every detail about it. The guitars were amazing, unlike anything I've ever heard! The Drums were exceptional and rhythmic. The Bass wasn't what normal bass sounded like, it actually had a totally different vibe all together. The vocals set it off with a vibe that binded it all together and made it... Well, Perfect!
I immediately begged him to let me borrow the CD. He let me and I memorized every word before day two with it even hit! Of course my dad didn't like it. He didn't like it when I started playing guitar either because it interfered with my school work and everything else as well. The guitar was my life! The ironic thing of it all is this: Without his music, I would have never heard Fleetwood Mac and, in turn, never craved more music. Without that nag of wanting more music, I would not have discovered Sabbath so early because I would have never set my mind to rock. Also, without Fleetwood, I probably wouldn't have picked up the guitar!
But that's pretty much my story. I hope you read through it all! Coment on it if you like.

holy cow draven, you sound like you were a relly braniac 5 year old. And i feel bad for u that ur parents don't support you with this. My parents support me 100% with guitar, but unfortunately my mom hates that i listen to sabbath, while my dad thinks it's great that i listen to music from his generation that he grew up on.

Yeah man, I swear to Ozzy I was like a child genius. I have no ******** clue what happened though! But yeah, My parents, expecially my dad, thinks that I'm just wasting my time. He supports me playing guitar, but he wishes I wouldn't devote as much time to it because he says I should have priorities. I do have priorities... my main one just so happens to be getting my band out there! My dad looks at it like this: Their are millions of bands out there trying to make it big at the same time mine is. The odds of my band making it are one in millions... My response to that: Well dad, that's why I have to make sure my band is better than the other millions out there! That's why I spend so much time on it. Plus, if it wasn't for you and Fleetwood Mac, I wouldn't be playing the guitar right now! But yeah, I proved to my dad that I'm a good guitarist, and he respects me more for it now. My downstairs neighbor was playing his acoustic. I told him to do a standard 12-bar blues rhythm. He started and I started to solo over it with my electric plugged into an amp with mild distortion. My dad was amazed at how good I can play blues! I love playing blues solo's, They have so much feel to them ya know? But anyways, that's how I got my dad to pipe down about my career choice.

my dad supports my band 100%, which his other son is in as well (my little brother the drummer). MY mom supports us the same way, however, i havn't really announced that my band is my dream profession. idk how they would take that, because i still got alot going for me as far as school goes. I sorta mentioned my dream to the band once, and lets just say i'm alone on the "make it big" plan.
and about blues, sabbath is majorly blues influenced, and i am majorly sab influenced, so guess what kind of solo's i play biggrin sometimes i use rhythym over it, sometimes i let my guitar gently weep unaccompanied.

Same here man! Sometimes I love to have a rhythm going on in the background, but then you get those times when you just want to blues it out with nothing to hold you back! I have a rhythm guitarist in my band, which is awesome... but rhythm guitar is also a setback at times. I mean I love having him there and jamming, but when you have two guitarists, it cuts alot of s**t out of the picture. I can throw alot of s**t in there though with two, so I'm happy with it. But yeah, Most of the solo's I play are in the style of blues. Where do you live? maybe one day we can get together and jam... That'd be interesting...

It's really quite sad in my family- only my cousins that live all over the place like metal music, and my immediate family despises me for it. === .....I can tell the whole story about the above via PM if anyone wants me to, but I am really tired right now, and it's right after finals now, so I need a break. Talk soon......
