Yeah as the Subject, what about the old time punk like misfits, sex pistols, the clash or even ramones? Every1 is listening to RHCP, Greenday, GoodCharlotte, Blink and so on and say its punk, but do they really know what it means? I have nothing wrong with those bands, but really. The ol' time punk is much better

i like the old punk. but i prefer much of the 80s and 90s punk more. even now i like most punk that is out today. im going to say this now though, anything on mtv now is not punk. although im sure thats bashing rancid fans. but there last album to me was... dreadful and horrible.

true MTV goes against everything punk. You may have nothing against Good Charlotte, Greenday, etc. but I dont bands like that stole my childhood now I see that they are not true to their music they are sellingout every chance they get.

yes... *cough cough nirvana cough*... i love that how i bring up sellout bands and that nirvana was one of them. little grunge rats always say that they were far from sell outs... ya, they are. they play for drug money, kobain was a shitty singer, band had no talent and sells s**t loads of t-shirts at hot topic. and all they can say is "who you calling a shitty band!?"

When I think of 'Ol time punk', I'm thinking more on the lines of Government Issue, Minor Threat, The Damned, The Buzzcocks and The Dead Kennedys. Good punk bands still occur (even if some come and go quickly). The Deviates had a good run during the start of 2000 to I think 2003, Bad Religion is still going, The Buzzcocks are still going (they toured Australia early this year), Jello Biafra is still going (made that album with the Melvins, and it sounds more Jello than Melvin if you ask me), Latterman is another band that I've taken a shine to as well as many others.
As for the comment on Grunge being the downfall of metal, well, you can have your opinion but the Metal scene I hear from time to time doesn't seem to have changed all that much. Grunge wasn't the first to take metal influences and it certainly won't be the last (and Nirvana's metal influences go about as far as Good Charlotte's influences from punk).

Contagious Cure Jello Biafra is still going (made that album with the Melvins, and it sounds more Jello than Melvin if you ask me) I'm pretty sure he's made 3 albums with the Melvins.

Eee hee the Damned and The Clash all the way! mrgreen Incidently , as far as i'm concerned, those bands that you mentioned aren't punk, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers are the only ones worth their salt but they still really aren't punk.

It is sad however that so many of may favourite bands are going down or were just short bursts of awesome talent and energy. Current, Beyond, Minor Threat, Deviates and a few others are gone sad Fugazi is supposedly on a hiatus, Pretty Girls Make Graves lost their guitiarist (that's like like an eagle that lost its wings!) Dag Nasty's new stuff blows completely in comparison to their first two albums... hmmm, I'm ranting now so I'll shut up sweatdrop
