Do they actually have a kingdom of their own? Because an army of gnomes would be pretty interesting. A gnomish warband... nah.

I suppose they could have a kingdom of their own, yes. Actually, it seems pretty funny, and yet I think that Illusionists and Artifacers could actually be a viable tactic in fighting a war. Also, don't forget that gnomes should be as good a humans at using a DEX-based melee class such as Swashbuckler, and they shoudl be decent at ranged combat as well, although their speed penalty for being small does hurt a tad.

Gnomes really aren't plentiful enough in Forgotten Realms to have their own sovereign nation. The highest concentration of gnomes around is probably in the Dalelands, where some Dales have as high a concentration as...10%. Yippee. Most of the Dales have about 5%.

In Eberron, however, humans don't have quite the same population stranglehold, and gnomes are much more prevalent. They DO in fact have their own nation, known as Zilargo. The nation lies along the southern coast of Khorvaire, lined by mountains to the north, and some forested peninsulas along the south. Population runs at about 250,000, some 60% of which is Gnomish. It is a very peaceful nation, and their army probably won't be conquering anything anytime soon, at least not the traditional way. The last time someone tried to conquer them, Zilargo sent it's army to meet the invaders before they started actually invading...and promptly surrendered. In the negotiations that soon followed, however, Zilargo secured a place as an independant nation within the larger empire that had come to conquer them, and nothing really changed for Zilargo. So they remained independant, averted conquest, and didn't spill a single drop of blood to do it. Now they export Alchemical items, and magic items with elementals bound to them.

You know what this means, don't you? It means that when the Gnomes DO start invading, it won't be something you can easily defend against with swords and sorcery, oh no...

The Deep Gnomes are the closest in Faerun to having their own nation, if any city-group in the Underdark can be qualified as a nation.

By the way, lawyers. *shudders* I CAN'T KILL THEM FAST ENOUGH!! gonk

Nah, lawyers are too overdone at least the normal kind. No, the Gnomes shall use illusionary lawyers!

Illusionary lawyers...Implausible Deniability?

See, the thing is that lawyers will always be defeated by people who have no care for the law and a vendetta against lawyers, because lawyers are sissies. 3nodding Which makes Gnomish lawyers even more at a disadvantage, because they are smaller than everyone else. Even Halflings are bigger. Which makes Gnomes the runts of the races, and they'd attract even more thugs. Not all bullies and thugs are stupid enough to fall for illusions.

Actually, gnomes are bigger than halflings, and tougher than humans. Be careful what you assume about them. It may prove to be your last mistake. wink

And I'm pretty sure in most settings gnomes at least have cities of their own. Heck, every intelligent race, does, except maybe halflings. They just have nomadic wagon trains or live in the cities of other races, because they are accepted more places than even humans are.

Well sure, every race have their own cities, including Halflings and Gnomes, but they don't seem to be large enough to be on the map in Forgotten Realms. I was thinking that Lantan was primarily a Gnomish city, but the campaign setting doesn't seem to have demographics for it.

Oh, where did that little rhyme come from? It's catchy.

Old show. That was part of the theme song. I don't remember if the show was entitled Kingdom of the Gnome, or David the Gnome.

I loved that show. <.<

I don't mean a bunch of Gnomish spell-casting types, though. I mean a variety of classes. A rogue, a fighter, a wizard, maybe even a cleric! Hmm, Gnomish clerics... brain collapsing!

That doesn't seem too odd, there are gadgety inventor gods and trickster gods that gnomes will fit in with.
