Basically, kenning is using two words (often nouns) together to describe a third. The sea becomes a "whale road," a king a "ring giver." Or gold becomes "poll plunder." The idea is that the kenning focusses on different aspects of what is being described.
Now, the rules of this game are to describe a common object as a kenning & the provide the person after you with an object to describe. Oh--and have fun wink

Ok, the basic idea of kenning is that 2 nouns are placed together to take the place of a third noun. The idea is to suggest something about the original word that you don't otherwise see.
The sea becomes whale road, a king is a ring giver, gold becomes Freya's tears, or (in this context) poll plunder or gaia's gift. It's an Old English poetic trick, but it can also be fun to play with in modern contexts.
