I'm just wondering who here likes this movie?
(I've only seen the first movie, by the way. I've also heard that I'm not missing too much by not seeing the sequels).
The Matrix is a wonderful, deeply philosophical movie which is basically "what if everything was an illusion? What if nothing was really real?"
It's a great movie that sci-fi fans should see at some point.

Oh yes, i love the Matrix. actually, i really dislike the 2nd and 3rd movies. i think they should have left things the way they were at the end of the first. what really got me tho, was that i didn't know the matrix story-line at all before i saw the movie, and, about a quarter of the way through it i thought to myself, "is this a Christian movie?" just because it is so representative of a lot of Biblical accounts, especially the ones about Jesus, but also about how we're living blind and have no idea about the lie that we live. after i heard all the cursing i knew it wasn't a christian movie, and that's okay, but still, it was just awesome to see a modern representation that was so closely related to my beliefs.

Actually, there are really good Christian undertones in this, but it is by no means a Christian movie. There are also some really good Buddhist undertones as well. A very philosophical film.
I'm reading "The Matrix and Philosophy" which I think is really, really good.

oh, i know that it wasn't made to be a Christian movie. it's just that i know it is no coincidence that what you see is a very intriguing likeness to the Biblical accounts of man's predicament in the world and the purpose of Jesus to save man. I have heard about Buddhism being in there too but i never knew what the specific examples were. Can you tell me some of them? I'm familiar enough with Buddhism, but I was predisposed to the Christian aspects since that is what I believe. (oh yeah, i think I saw "The Matrix and Philosophy" in a Barnes and Noble once and I flipped through it a little but i didn't get to read much. it seemed like a really cool book tho)

i only saw the first movie. It was good, but parts of it didn't make as much sence as one would have hoped. I got quite confused when Neo did the "supperman" flying away thing at the very end. Not one of my favorates, but not too bad.

The whole movie is quite simple. I also like 2, Reloaded, because it expanded the story.
The day I saw 3, I felt quite let down, but it was still good cinema.

I haven't seen 2 or 3. Dad won't let me. I know about the "scene" in 2, so I can see why. Watching that with your father would be... awkward.
But the first movie makes me quite happy, so I don't mind waiting a year or two to see the next movies.

Oh yes, that scene, where we see.........Neos back....And!......Trinitys Legs.
Not much there. Rent it, no real awkwardness

Yeah, well.
The most awkward movie moment is seeing The Da Vinci Code with my grandma, and sitting next to her when you see Silas'....um... backside.
Actually, we own all of the movies. Plus the animatrix. My dad's a big sci-fi fan too. Which is good, when buying expensive X-Files DVDs.
But watching things like that with your father... odd...

...hmm... true.... But that's different... somehow.
Plus, I don't know if I've seen Our Mrs. Reynolds with my dad. And I know I haven't seen Trash with my dad.

GravelRanger Yeah. I suppose. Have you seen the Animatrix? Parts of it. I hope to see the full thing, because I'm a fan of anime AND the Matrix; put them together and it sounds cool. biggrin

The very first one really blew me away... it was so innovative. I mean so many films and tv shows mimic the uber martial arts FX all the time and the bullet time. It's become as iconic in that way as Star Wars
the other two were good and I liked the progression of story and it's always fascinating to visit the Matrix but I like the 1st one best.
"We've been expecting you, Mr. Anderson"
Also, regardles of a lot of criticism... I REALLY REALLY like Keanu Reeves
