First off, a little background... I raise lizards, and my sister has a snake. (Although I also have rectnly acquired two spotted salamanders... It should be an interesting experience, until now I've only raised reptiles with the esception of a leopard frog I released near the end of summer.) Now, recently I got four mice and seperated them accordingly for the sake of breeidng them and using most of their babies as snake and lizard food, while raising the breeders with great concern and care as pets instead of mere cattle. In Tank 1 lay Adam and Eve, in Tank 2 lay Lilith and Samael. The babies were just going to be dubbed Human 1, Human 2, etc etc, or Lilim 1, Lilim 2, etc etc...
Now, today when I went in to feed the mice I found something quite surprising... Samael, well, PART OF Samael, was laying there in a position disturbingly reminissant of what happens when someone's sniped in the back of the head in the AvP2 video game. Lilith had eaten his head and brain, possibly starting while he was alive as the body was still fresh and warm... I took him out and dumped her out of the tube she was hiding away in, givign her the whole "you little b***h..." thing, even though I know she can't understand... Then, when I came back a few hours later, she was gone! Vanished from the cage completely!
I've set up a few Have A Heart traps around my room, basically just out of not wanting to step on a deathtrap in the morning when I get out of bed, and am contemplating what to do if I do catch her again before the cats do... One side of me wants to either nail her to a stake and burn her as a "witch", another makes me want to throw her in a sack, beat her against the porch over and over, then give the corpse to the snake, and the other side knows she may be pregnant due to the fact that she and Samael had bred pre-murder, and knows that I'll have to wait a few weeks to see if she gives birth before giving her any sort of punishment...
Then another question comes to mind. What should be done with the young? I really wanted to pass on Samael's genes, as he had the red albino eyes but very soft and light brown fur, but now even if they did pass on there's always the possibility that Lilith was somehow... Defective. I remember my friend Andy bred mice with nearly a decade of inbreeding, then one "clutch" was completely psychotic and actually went about doing the exact same thing Lilith did, but to each other and their parents.
What thinks thee on this whole situation? I know in the end I'll have to go based on my own opinion, but it may actually be swayed somewhat by you guys... And I really am curious as to what others would do in my place.

Well, I've never owned a lizard or anything, but I would keep Lilith and her babies. I don't know, I guess I'm not the vengeful type a large majority of the time.

Well, he disposal of her would be more for the safety of the mice and conservation of space rather than revenge... And with the babies, it would be all about the safety of the other mice.

What thinks thee on this whole situation? I know in the end I'll have to go based on my own opinion, but it may actually be swayed somewhat by you guys... And I really am curious as to what others would do in my place. First off, let me say I lubbers this topic. "...I laughed. I cried. It moved me, Bob." (I'm a quotemonger) Secondly, how like you (from what I have noticed) to name your breeders as such. Count me amused on a Monday. My first comment/rebuttal was to the extent of morale/punishment for non-humans. It depends on your stand on whether you think animals have souls and/or some sort of moral conscience. I'm convinced that animals opperate on conditioned and controled assimilated responses. They, for instance dogs, learn what is right and wrong (much like young children) from the confirmation and direct consequence of an authority i.e., someone who controls whether or not the eat. Animals and children are selfish creatures. Unless there is some direct negative consequence that involves their well being following the undesired action, then the action will be repeated. In order to train Lillith not to eat the brains of her mate it would first have to be a repeated action; and she'd have to be immediately given a negative stroke for harrassing others each time. Of course this would have to take on very close observations to avoid unpunished acts, thusly diminishing the effects of relearning behavoiral patterns. You'd have to set up a controlled environment. Too bad you sound like your hands are full with reptiles, otherwise this would make for a fun experiement. After reading your reply to thwarp's response. I saw that is wasn't a moral thing at all. But I guess since I read your response I talked about a little bit of both things I was going to split into two resonses. So there you have it, my tainted response. If you are not interested in keeping her as a pet, then I suggest you let her alone with the reptiles. It won't really serve as a lesson, since she'll be, ahem, digested. However, it would be the easiest way to keep the others safe.

D: I don't like breeding animals just to feed them to other ones.
but aside from that, she is just a mouse. mice are really stupid. don't punish her for eating her mate, maybe her instincts are messed up or something. i used to have two fish, and one ate the other, but i didn't put it in a bag and beat it against my porch (well, actually, it died the next day XD)

I couldn't punish her if I wanted to, she escaped. XP And I find it kinda funny to hear mice called stupid when everyone's rambling on about how smart they are. Eh, personally I've never had a smart one... I have known a few though, and seen quite a few intelligent rats. (Though that's a different species entirely...)
