Psychosele: March of the Imperium
CHAPTER II

In a time from long before we can remember, the planet was settled. A vast nation spread itself across the stars, and thus Remus was founded. But then, the Age of Darkness came. The world was once covered with colonists, all serving together joyously, but they all lost connection with each other. The colonies fell into ruin, and few survived the following disaster. The vast nation of the stars abandoned the planet, in order to fight the great enemy, and that enemy sent vanguard troops to the planet, destroying many of the peaceful colonies before being repulsed. The great enemy was never seen again, but the colonies lost all contact with each other, and over the centuries, empires were build, and other came into ruin.

But now is the Age of Expansion, as the Venerable Imperiator has commanded his armies to venture to the Wastes and conquer them in His name. His lands reign from the Great Sea in the South and East to the Ematian Mountains in the West. Those are set and defined limits, but to the North, is another story. A series of forts were constructed along the northern border, as that any settlements were left ghost towns, and scout parties never return. The Imperium is composed mainly of wastes and deserts, but to this northern land, there is life; vast forests and fields and meadows cover it, making a much better land for acquiring food.

Therein lies the problem however, you can't just march up there and take the lands and use them as your own; That is why these series of fortifications were constructed. The Menace. That is all that they are known by, as that is all they are, a menace, a nightmare really. Any encounter disturbs even the resolute Imperial soldiers. And encounters have escalated. It seems that they are pushing for war, so the Imperiator has decided, why don't we push back...

In the opening battles of the war, things looked grim, and in the battle for Namus Rock a key victory was won for the Imperium. Vital supply lines to the front were saved from being overrun, but at the cost of thousands of lives cut down in a bloody swathe. The most Venerable Imperiator’s forces redoubled their efforts at this point and began to stage many defensive victories. An offensive was soon to be had.

THE CHAPTER BEGINS...

In the city of Risen just outside the Emation mountains. They have grown quite weary of this war, and wish to rebel. They want their own government, they want to be led by themselves, not by some distant ruler who knows nothing of them and their ways. This region had been known to be rebellious, and it had been known to have been suppressed. The area was poor, it was dirty, and it was just unpleasant in any way you could say. Risen is the largest city in the area, usually not influenced by the local populace to rebel as well, acting a beacon of the Imperium to the people, but now even it was almost in ruin. It would have to be suppressed, for the name of the Imperiator.

This is a battle of dense urban combat, something the Imperium is practically unknown to, instead taking their battles in to the open wastelands so plentiful. The only experience they've really had with this is the Riot Police in the depths of cities, beating off gangs and the like. Most of the city is lost, barring the military base and the governmental sector, which are now currently under siege. Soon a military detachment was dropped off at the landing pad, ready to combat the weak.

The people are tired, they are poor, they have to work longer hours to pay higher taxes to fund a war that they don't even support in the first place. The middle class rose up against the injustices, and the poor followed. Soon they took a large portions of the city, including the manufacturing sectors, and took hold of most of the food and weapons, making them able to fight for quite a while. Vive la Revolution.

In the name of the Imperiator the soldiers do pray.

Landry touched down with the rest of his men. The aerial hovering just above the ground, on the outskirts of town. Leading his men, Landry yells at them to start moving. He had only his squad, hand-picked, of about five soldiers. No use wasting a whole Spec Ops team just for some riot.

He told the men to move to a wall and placed a HUD-hologram, telling them exactly where he wanted them to go. Thnks to the superior technology of the Imperium, this was possible.

The men scaled a wall on a building, Landry in front, against the corner...He peeked around the corner, and saw many men standing, waiting for them...They had to have seen the aerial. He didn't make his move yet, maybe they didn't know where he was. He decided to play it safe and stay in his position...he awaited further orders on what he should do, and maybe a touchdown of multiple soldiers...

Kyle's team were sitting around waiting for their transport into the city. The 6 of them were just getting to know each other. Kyle (and Carlos if he's going to join us) was (were) the only one(s) to witness "The Rock's" battle, and it greatly strengthened him(them).

It was getting dark and Kyle was wondering if they had forgotted about him.

A man walked over to Kyle, " SIR!," he saluted, " your transport is inbound. 30 seconds!" Kyle nodded and turned to his men, " OK, guys! Gather you s**t! If you forget your blankie....it ain't my fault, and your just gonna havta be cold for the night! You here me?"

"YES SIR!"

The aerial landed and the team got in. Kyle sat facing the back right behid the piolets with a headset to talk to them. The pilot said, " Whenever your ready, Lt." Kyle looked around, waited for everyone's thumbs up.

Carlos sat with the rest of the small team, pretty boy in the lead. Great. The rich brat now has his own team. He didn't say anything, but waited impatiently as night started to creep by. A man finally walked to Kyle and said something. Then he came all mighty and shouted out something about a blankie, We're grunts, we don't need blankies. Don't get pissed at us because you forgot yours. Carlos let out a little laugh as he stood up with his thoughts. Taking place within the transport he fastened himself and his weapon down and raised a thumb.

Frank sat in his normal ten by ten foot cubicle. The whole building was deserted and papers lay across the floor. He could hear whelps and screams from outside as the civilians awaited what they thought was complte victory. All thanks to one man, Frank Hurvy. The man sitting alone staring at a picture of him and his family. Two sons and a wife. That was the reason he searched for this rebellion. Rose it from the underground and took over more than half the city. He feared the reprecussions that would surely come next. That's when he heard the first chopper coming in. It landed in the outskirts and can be seen from the window nearby. The men that jumped out were hidden well by the darkness from this distance.

With a sigh, Frank walked towards the staircase and to the ground level. There were three men looking at papers and trying to think of stuff to do. All half-wits that didn't seem to understand that the Imperium military is far more disciplined then they are. Just because we have their weapons doesn't mean we can just knock on the door and shoot, he thought to himself as he overheard some of their ideas. Frank finally said, "Get the people here. I wish to talk to them." He hoped his wife and kids were alright at home.

le ske to the pilot, " OK...go." Kyle then motioned for all of the men to put on their headsets. After they were done, He spoke, " Welcome, ladies. I am your CO, Lieutenant Kyle Anderson. You may of heard of me through different sources, an example being a celebrity....that changes now! I would then like to introduce you all to Carlos Sanchez..he is 2nd in command, treat him with respect, or you'll die. Got it? Good." Kyle pressed a button next to him and a holographic image popped up in front of him, a map of the city. " OK...our LZ is on the outskirts on town. Another Spec Ops unit, led by Lt. Landry is 3 cliks away from our position. We are going to neutrilize the threat on the goverment district...point Alpha. and then rendevous with Landry's unit at point Bravo....the military base. We are then going to resupply and provide a joint attack against the manufacturing sectors. Are their any questions?"

Carlos touched a button on the side of his helmet, turning on his headset. Listening to the orders of the new 'CO' he grinned a little at the mention of his position. They'll probably respect me then you, pretty boy, he thought as he looked at the schematics that came up on the HUD of his helmet. They were watching arows direting straight from the different NAV points. Of course once on the ground, they'll most likely be needing to take a different course to avoid hostile units. THey may not be a threat, but they are civilians. Don't want too many casualties. Carlos looked out the window as he saw the buildings drawing closer. He unlatched himself and his gun. "Time to show those speccies why we're the backbone," he said to the men as the pilot started taking them to the ground. A loud simultaneous shout was heard as they jumped out of the transport. Carlos turned towards Kyle and with as much respect as he could muster he said, "How should we proceed?"

((I'm bored so here's Frank again))

Frank heard the sound of another transport coming a little ways off, again on the outskirts. He looked from his highered stand towards the people. Each wearing some sort of armor, whether bearing the full green grunt armor or some light armor, some even wore heavy armor of those that were frontline, and carrying all assortments of weapons. Whether they knew how to use them or not didn't matter, the fact was they would fight at his words. With a sigh, Frank began.

"The Imperiator has forsaken all of us! While we work and construct for them, they raise the taxes for this war that isn't necessary. Due to this, times have been difficult and feeding our children is getting harder each day." He watched as many men shouted in approval, they were all men. The women and children stayed in the houses, no man wanted them in danger. Husbands and fathers would fight to protect them. "So we rebel against him and now they send the military after us. I will not lie to you. Their discipline and skill with weapons and strategies surpass all of ours togethor. But united and as a whole he can prevail." The cheers got louder now as each man raised a weapon showing they would fight alongside to the end. "My guess is that they will try to take back the manufacturing plants and then head to the military base. That sector is the only spot left to them in the city."

Frank took a deep breath and then said, "We must keep hold of this city or else all this was useless and everyone, you, your wife, your kids, will die." He clenched a fist as he thought of his own family. "Everyone living from Turvu street to Hector street, I want you to stay on this block. If they come by use the cars on the streets as cover. Henry, Joseph. You two are the best shot we have. Take a position in this building and help them out from above." He looked at them both, one was only a kid...maybe about twenty. The other was an older man, lived in the wilderness at a cabin until he came here. He was maybe forty or fifty. Either way, they may not make it once the brutes hit. The older man placed his hand on Joseph, the younger one, and said, "If you're taken, don't fight back just surrender. You have a lot more to live for." The boy gave him a proud look saying 'I won't quit.' The two of them ran up the stairs and took places on two seperate floors.

Frank looked at the rest, "Come on we need to hurry and get in position. We can then surprise them. It's our best shot." He walked down from his position and started to jog towards the manufacturing sector. We'll need anything we can use, he thought.

Landry was still by the building when he saw and heard the other transport carrying Kyle and his team draw closer. Landry took out his laser-designator to connect to the sound waves made by the people inside...

Landry, due to his past experiences in city warfare, could pretty easily command a unit through the city with not much casualties. He knew the tricks of the trade, he had to use them once...before he was captured and brought in to be trained. He remembered those tactics for a scenario such as this.

A noise signified that he linked up to the sound waves. It had electronically attached to one, "Carlos Sanchez" and his HUD, a much more sophisticated version of the Infantry HUD, filtered and morphed into the view of what Carlos saw, at least looking forward. A few seconds later, the audio hooked in clearly and he heard what was being said by all...

First, Kyle stood up and made the announceent of Carlos gaining 2nd in command... Good job soldier... Landry thought. He remembered him from the base, and remembered how his arm was all screwed up. He must have healed fast.

Kyle turned on the hologram and arrows slowly began to appear and point to special places on the map...

...rendevous with Landry's unit at point Bravo...the military base...

So that was it...he was to proceed to the military base and await them there...sounded good enough. He disconnected the link to Carlos and returned hs normal HUD. IT took a few seconds to readjust his vision and mind to going back to regular sight, since watching those things always diorient you.

He pushed a button on his helmet and changed the link to direct line output. This ensured that only his team would hear him, and he wouldn't be heard by anyone, not even the wall he stood next to.

Okay Specs, this is our job. We are to rendevous with Kyle and resupply at the Military base. There are no details on how many hostiles there are, and we may be overwhelmed in odds, but don't let that get to you. Remember our training and keep yourself alert. We will show these people why we are the Fingers of this Corps. Turn on Direct Link Output. We don't want anyone hearing anything...

The others also pushed the small button on their helmets, turning on Direct Link Output. Landry raised a thumb, and so did everyone else, showing that they were all ready and raring to go.

Landry looked around the corner again, seeing if those men were still out there...They must have been pulled in and replaced or something, noone was there. Landry looked around, seeing if anyone was hiding anywhere, if a Manhole was moved, if the shadow of a car was unusual. Nothing was the matter with anything...

He too advantage of this missecurity. He ordered his men to run into the street and go into the backalleys. The good thing about these somewhat trashy cities was the backalleys. This particular city had an extensive network of backalleys, and Landry used them wisely...

He ordered them once more, this time telling them to go Silent...Blend into the Shadows... This meant to basically move slowly and not make any sounds. This also meant to turn on their Cloaking technology. They weren't fully hidden, as they still looked like shadows, but it helped at night in alleyways...

Through the headsets there came the pilots voice, "Sir, we're getting closer!" Kyle pressed a button, "Roger that!" He then released the button and spoke to his squad, "Men, this is going to be one of our first urban combat senerioes. Be on the lookout for skinnies...and watch everyones back. We're brothers. OK......ditch the head sets, ut on your helmets, seal 'em, and load your HUD." Kyle took of the headsets, put on his helmet, pressed a button and the facemask came over his mouth and the eyepeices came down and back sealing his helmet. He pressed a button on the side of the helmet and the eyepeices glowed a royal blue. Commands streamed over the display:

HUD on...
Checking diagnostics...
Diagnostics ok...
Uploading HUD display...
Done...
Satillite uplink aquired...
GPS signal found...
Uploading map...
Uploading objectives...
Uploaded:

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES:

1. SECURE GOVERNMENTAL SECTOR
2. SECURE MILITARY BASE
3. INFILTRATE, NEUTRALIZE, AND SECURE ENEMIES' HQ (INDUSTRIAL SECTOR)

SECONDARY OBJECTIVES:
1. NEUTRALIZE REBELLION LEADER
2. BRING IN REBAL HOSTAGES

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Predator" communacations feed aquired...
Predators....GOOD TO GO!

Kyle spoke, " Can everyone hear me?"

They responded, "Yes sir!"

Kyle looked on his left wrist, which contained a keypad for selecting options for your HUD and sending messages to people in your squad and other squads during radio silence. He went through the menus to find HUD options and selected, "Team Heath" which showed the health of every Predator on board.

The pilot spoke again, " 30 seconds until touchdown."

Kyle yelled, " Nightvision!" and the troop carrier pod glowed a bluish purple. Kyle pressed a button on his control panel in front of him and a lever pooped out overhead. There was a loud thmup and the pilot yelled, " GOGOGOGOGOGO!" And Kyle pulled on the lever, releasing the pod and the aerial took off.

Kyle got his gun and pack and opened the door, there was a hissing noise and then in went down. His team moved out and once in the open turned on there "OSI emitters. And Kyle moved towards the govermental sector....seeing the flashes in the distance!

((OSI emitter - Opposite Side Image emitter, like in James Bond Die Another day, the car projected the other sides image on the right side, making the car "invsible". These are the same things but the image is rugher...and once it makes contact with bullets, shrapnel, etc. it unveils itsef slowly, and well have to be tuned off sometime to recharge the emitters that were hit. I MADE IT UP!))

Carlos nodded as he switched to night vision and took position along the first building peering beyond the corner. "Corner clear," he said as he awaited orders. He scanned through the objectives and placed the map on his HUD. They were approximately twenty kliks from the military base. This place would serve as a temporary HQ once they get it supplied. The governmental sector was just ahead about four kliks. Should pose minimal resistance, Carlos thought as he saw the final objective. The industrial sector. This sector held many paper pusher offices and such. Every job in this sector was a desk job. The spawning point of the resistance leader, Frank.

Kyle nodded to 2 members in his squad and they closed up the door and pressed a button on the pod. Wheels surfaced and it began to move with us. The men programed it so when we are stopped it stoped 10 feet behind us. They set it to go .5 meters per second and they proceded. Kyle pressed his com and spoke:

This is Predator Team: Ghost Leader.....we have the MSAOB, up and operational. It's on your HUD. This is Ghost Leader...OUT!

He let go and walked to Carlos, " Good. Let's move." He then spoke so the rest of the team could hear, " Turn coms settings to Direct Link and I want everyone to keep checking on those roofs.....I want those skinnes taken out before our MSAOB is taken out."
