VII. Post Numero Uno

Belial Tabrimon, an angel whose radiance had been called the Light of the Throne was in the dark. He knew not who thought to oppose him, but he certainly was not about to stand for it. As quickly as the rebels had formed their group, he had formed his own. Their job? To capture or eliminate those who dared rise against him.

Belial leaned on the sill of a window, looking out over an exquisite garden. He could see the silhouettes of other angels in flight, but chose not to join them. He never had, never would. His cold, indistinct eyes beheld the troubled realm with a sort of haunted look. It was as if to see this beautiful place, and know it was in turmoil bothered him. He bit his lip. No matter. He would restore order, no matter the method he needed to employ to do so. The radiant angel turned away from the window, long hair billowing slightly.

He glanced for a moment at the silver bells hung on the door; they were expected to ring some time soon, with word from at least one of his Innocents. Or so he hoped. Their efforts, though admirable, had been disappointing of late. He wondered about exactly how useful they truly were. Perhaps he was wasting his time with them.

In a moment of rare indecision, Belial turned back towards his window, approaching the sill. He opened it, lifting it out of his path easily. Moving fluidly, he leapt out it, plummeting towards the ground of this realm. Just before he would have hit, his great, silver-white wings burst from his back, carrying him up with a tremendous, silent beat.

Airborne, he moved without a sound above the fragrant garden. Whispers erupted in his wake, but he could not hear them. There was nothing but silence for Belial as he flew. The silence was the price he paid for hearing his sleeping Lord speak. His great wings carried him forth without a sound, as he began to make his descent. He landed lightly amid the angels.

He cast a look around, no warmth in his pale eyes. Even for his own, he seemed to hold a sort of contempt. His failing Innocents, the irksome rebels, and all those that simply stood by. He scarcely cared for any of them.

With a warm laugh, Matthew noticed the landing of his Commander off of the corner of his eye. Dismissing himself from his Lieutenants, he turned and broke out into a beeline towards Belial. Tempted to hail his Lord before he could get to him through the crowd, he cut off the outburst respectfull. Pressing his hand to the hilt of his longsword, he pulled the blade towards his body to prevent it from bumping into the people around him as he waded through the massing.

Placing a gentle palm on Belial's shoulder to announce his presence, the young man widened his winning smile.
"Good morn' to ye Lord. What has sprung thee from thine furnished cage?" He chuckled, admitting his surprise to see his Lord out of doors at such a time. Upon first sight, he'd eased a thumb of his blade free of its scabbard, but then realised that the older man simply seemed to be taking a break. In any case, the silver-haired lad was in high spirits; The sun shined brightly, and no rebel motions had been made all morn.

"A need for air..." Belial answered simply, wishing that Matthew would remove his hand from his shoulder. Though he had his uses, Matthew's perpetual happiness was rather troublesome. Particularly when one was feeling pensive and trying not to brood particularly much. Folding his wings in tightly against his back, Belial did his best to seem relaxed and not bothered by the presence of the cheerful progidy before him.

Focusing on the younger man's face for a moment more, he turned away when he was satisfied that there was no more to be said. "We'll speak later." He said flatly, beginning to walk away. He was not yet prepared to deal with his merry second-in-command. A solitary stroll was in order, just for a little while...

While the rebels were still, it was a good time to contemplate just what they were going to do next... And to pay a visit to God's resting place in once doing.

"A dark wind hovers in thee..." Matthew sighed, crossing his arms to his chest. "God ye good den Commander." He added louder in farewell. When such moods take him, it leads me to wonder... Subconciously stroking his cruciform birthmark, the young man turned to take his path before the Halls. Perhaps there will be an early mass on the morn...

Despite what others had called it, Matthew did not feel in any way the out of doors masses he held were controversial. Rather then kempt and uncomfortably held in recess of a closed building, a public gathering for God should be taken in the open gardens on days where weather fair, and open hallways in times of winter chill.

Dropping his hand to finger the silver cruciforms on his gloves, the young man disappeared beneath the arches of the grand halls, his lieutenants closely in tow upon noticing his departure.
"I shall pray for thee Commander..." He vowed on a whisper.

Those prayers were very much needed. Belial was very much in turmoil, perhaps more so than the world around him. What with God's absence, he had been imbued with more power than he could possibly handle.

But He was at rest, and as a result, the radiance of the Heavens was fading, along with the light of the angels, and there was no other option but to use the power he had been given.

Belial looked up as if imploring the powers beyond even his own, to do something, anything, to stop him. Despite his struggles, things were only getting worse, and he knew it, but pressed on anyway.

"Perhaps," he muttered to himself, "perhaps I should be overthrown..." The angel lowered his pale gold gaze, as if ashamed of what he had done. Then his expression turned cold again. He could not allow himself to doubt. So long as he held things together until He awoke, his word was the word of the Lord. Such as it was.

Again the ranking angel let out a sigh, meandering through the large garden. Between squirmishes, it was soothing to go for such strolls. Such as that was.

"In nome del padre, e del figlio, e dello spirito santo," Matthew's powerful voice echoed out over the heads of several kneeling Innocent, "May the light of God guide and protect us all." With the vast echo of a resounding, 'Amen', the Innocent of the Commander rose to take more comfortable positions around the hallway, until the scene resembled one of loitering than one of prayer. But prayer it was, and in their relaxed state, a meditive prayer as well. "May God, The Father, be with each and every one of you on this day." That sweet voice rang out once more, to be answered with sincere, 'and also with you's.

Drawing his longsword, the young man kissed the pommel, span the blade about to rest on the floor, and then knelt before it. Held in the hand of battle, the blade was no more than a graceful weapon; savage to the flesh of the undead and bitter to the enemies of the faith.
Whence the blade was reversed to rest against the ground however, it formed a cruciform that glew with white fire in a light that never seemed to flicker. This beacon of iron faith, even in these dark times, gave those in Matthew's presence a renewed sense of faith, and the will to fight with all one had.

Not terribly far from there, Belial could feel the reverberations of this display of unwavering faith... He could use more of that, himself. His brows furrowed. This sudden indecision, now that there was stillness was most unsettling. He knew not what to do when there were no foes to drive back, or deaths to plot. Since the Rebellion had begun, he had learned to be as cold and pitiless as any demon. Again, he began to doubt. He no longer belonged in heaven... But until God awoke this was his lot in life. Belial closed his eyes for a moment, and uttered a quiet prayer.

Bring me faith, Father, for I am faltering...

Head bowed, hands folded humbly over his breast, Belial prayed. His grey-white hair hung about his face, shading the look on Belial's face. The great angel was in pain, and had been ever since this task had been foisted upon him.

Why, he wondered, why have You done this to me? Surely you must know how weak I am behind all of this... All of these falsehoods... I am not fit to be Your voice, Father. A look of bitter determination replaced the treacherous look of anguish on his face. But I shall be.

Interrupting the mass, a weathered soldier stormed into the hallway through the large double doors, throwing them open with force enough to make their hinges shiver. All heads turned to him, except for Matthew's. Finishing the prayer, the perpetual youth sheathed his flickering longsword with a glorious ring before rising to his feet.

"It's in the Mindle! Everyone--dead! I-I, they're all..." The man burbled, scratches visible as he flailed his arms in an attempt to convey his message. With each flick, blood spattered away to land on the hall floor. Abandoning words, the distraught man simply broke into hysterical laughter, collapsing into the commander's second's warm arms.

Nodding his head towards the nearest lieutenant, the guard took off at a canter for a glass of water. Returning his gaze to the man crushing himself into his chest, Matthew ran his fingers through the unfortunate's hair, kneeling to wrap his arm around his back in a soothing gesture. It was only when the man spoke though, that his pupils shrank into stunned pinholes.

"Get Belial."

Belial's private prayers were interrupted abruptly as one of Matthew's lieutenants touched his shoulder. The sudden contact startled the great angel, who turned very much prepared to ram the heel of his hand into the lieutenant's chin.
"What is it?" He asked silkily, disguising his surprise and annoyance. Upon receiving the news of the mass carnage, Belial's expression grew unnervingly cold.

"I see. Where is Matthew?" He asked the lieutenant, who was beginning to shrink back from the great angel's look of cold fury.
"The cathedral." Belial inclined his head in thanks and unfurled his great wings. He wished to cover the ground quickly.

Sweeping his wings forward, he propelled himself upwards, streaking through the sky towards the cathedral. He landed lightly and threw open the great doors, making their hinges cry out for the second time that day. His long hair swirled, as if trying to catch up with his swift movements, and for a moment he looked truly magnificent, worthy of the post he had been assigned.
