I figured we could use a thread to discuss the Stephen King books (besides the DT series) that we are reading or have read.

I recently read Storm of the Century. I didn't realize it was a screenplay when I picked it up and at first I thought I might not enjoy because of that, but I was almost instantly absorbed in the book.

Has any one seen the movie? If so, is it worth watching? It seems like it should be very good if they stuck to what King wrote, but a lot of SK movies are disapointing so I don't want to get my hopes up.

Storm of the Century was pretty good.... as far as a TV movie could go. It's connected to the Dark Tower, though vaguely, through Legion and how he made the townfolks draw the stones from the bag to find out which child he should take. He mentions how things in an ancient land were always decided through those stones.

(In the revised gunslinger, it's mentioned that in Gilead that's how Gunslingers were chosen to do certain missions and jobs)

It also connects to Dolorus Claborne (which connects to the Shawshank Redemption), the islanders mention her and how she may of gotten away with the murder of her husband.

Connections are actually everywhere in all his stories, you just have to know where to look.

I'm currently reading The Stand and The Dead Zone.

I saw Sleepwalkers the other night. I laughed the whole way through it. whee

I'm reading The Stand. It's going to take me forever and a day to finish with all my homework!

Oh yeah. I'm reading Wizard and Glass right now. I'm trying to pace myself so I'll finish Song of Susannah just a few days before the BIG day.

The day before the final Dark Tower book I'm going to get up early and watch Stephen King on the Today show. I'm kinda scared though - I'm trying to be as spoiler free as possible and Stephen King tends not to be very good in keeping secrets.

I'm reading Wizard and Glass now too. I'm afraid my timing was off because at the rate I'm going I'll finish Song of Susannah before Dark Tower comes out. (I have way too much time at work to read) I might stop after WandG and re-read Insomnia before going on to Wolves of the Calla.

I just finished The Long Walk. It was...well-written, but there were a few parts in it that disturbed me quite a bit. I started reading Wizard and Glass again, but I'm only about 100 pages into it. Maybe I'll actually finish it this time

I've picked up The Long Walk on several different occasions, but I always end up buying something else. The story sounds like it would be a bit disturbing, but it seems very interesting as well.

I too am reading the wizard and the glass...I don't have as much time now though, so I fear I might not finish it for a good deal of time...hmm...

I finished Wizard and Glass this Friday. I'm now on Wolves of the Calla, I would like to finish it by this weekend (hopefully), so I can have a full week to finish Song of Susannah right before the Dark Tower comes out.

I just finished Different Seasons and now I'm on Wolves of the Calla. I really enjoyed Different Seasons. Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemtion was probably my favorite novella.

I was going to read all the DT books straight through before the 21st, but then this little hurricane came along and I was with out electricity for the last two days so as you can imagine there wasn't much to do but read. I will at least be able to read Wolves of the Calla and Song of Susannah right before DT7 comes out.

The Stand is a very good book (it's funny how I always complain about how long books are, but then they end up being my favourites) The first 200 pages are pretty well useless, but the rest is good and the ending is sad (well the part near the end. I dunno, I'm really emotional so I find most things sad sweatdrop )
