News and Comments:

25/5/06 - Hmm, this is under construction. I planned this to be like .Hack. If you have any comments (No suggestions, I am working on this first) post it in the RP Chat Thread. Okay... (Yeah it very similar to .Hack.... ^^; )
26/5/06 - Open! ^^ (But prone to changes.)

Introduction: Welcome to Virtual Reality

It is the Year 2020. A well known gaming company named 'Reality' created the game 'Virtual Reality.' The game grew immensely popular and more players are joining every day. In a few years the online world grew so popular that it had more than 20 million players and increasing.

This world was literally a Virtual Reality. Players controlled an avatar that is created by a selection process. In real life they are wearing a head gear and control movement by thought. The players level up by battling monsters and winning. The players feel pain when their avatars feel pain, they hear what their avatars should hear and smell different scents.

Parties can be formed so the players can battle in a team, items are sold in markets and pets can be kept. There are many NPCs (Non Playing Characters, that are controlled by computers) roaming around. The NPCs are so advanced so they can react to what is being said or done.

There are many quests including those that seek power to change their appearances through questing.

There are 6 basic classes:
Blademaster: A playable charcter class that uses swords. This class is probably more accurate than others.

Heavy Axeman: A playable character class that uses gigantic axes and other large bladed weapons eg. Scythe, to deal heavy damage.

Heavy Blade: A playable character class that uses broadswords and katanas to attack enemies. This class has the highest attack power of all the classes in the The World.

Long Arm: A playable character class that uses spears, lances and long weapons.

Twin Blade: A playable character class that uses identical dual blades. This class has average attack power.

Wavemaster: A playable character class that uses staves and long-range magic, rather than attacking up close. This class has the lowest attack power and players using this class should avoid close-combat.

Character Classes descriptions searched from Wikipedia and edited by me.

Note: All avatars are human unless you illegally broke the rules and modified it or endured hidden quests to change it. All players start at level 1. That means you have limited abilities. Of course you people are as immature as to god mod or do anything silly so I won't mention rules.

Your first post is the selection progess and login to Virtual Reality. See my post, it will give you an idea of what is going on in my head.

This is named Virtual Reality because I feel that I do not know all about .Hack and so forth about abilities and the game works. Eg. The character creation progress and words that appear on screen etc. You see my point?

Root Towns
The World is comprised of a cluster of different servers distributed around the world. When players login, they materialize in the Root Town of the server they last used.

Root Towns are central areas in the game where players can socialize, create parties, and do business with other players and NPCs. Each server in The World has it's own unique Root Town. They are the starting and ending point of any gaming session. In order to properly logout of the game, the player must be in a Root Town.

Each Root Town has a Chaos Gate, a large revolving ring used to transport players to areas or other servers. To transport to an Area, a series of three keywords must be entered. These keywords determine such parameters such as difficulty, terrain, and weather amongst other things. Most keyword combinations result in a Area with a field and a dungeon.

To Save the game one must log out and log in again. In battles and straight after battles the players are not allowed to save. Saving only can happen one minute after battle or in any Root Town.

Areas
A field is a large boundless expanse of terrain of finite size characterized by its open air environment and lack of living civilization. Typically most structures in the fields are the ruins of some long ancient dwellings, or the bones of some massive creature. Though it is boundless, there is a limited distance one can travel in a straight line before arriving at the same point again.

A dungeon is labyrinth across two to five descending levels of interconnected rooms. It contains a single entrance/exit that links the first level to the field and a single stairway between levels. When one enters a room that contains one or more Magic Portals, all exits are sealed until all Magic Portals have been opened. The deepest level of the dungeon contains a special room known for the distinctive floating figure, known as a Gott Statue, behind a golden treasure chest.

Special shrines characterized by an open flame, are known as Symbols to players, and grant magical enchantments to nearby party members when activated. They can be found in both the field and the dungeon, though it is more rare to find it in the dungeon.

Magic Portals are revolving rings of mystical energy that activate whenever a player get within proximity of it. When activated, Magic Portals summon one or more monsters, though sometimes they may summon treasure chests instead.

Special Areas
There are certain keyword combinations that transport players to a one of a kind location, usually related to the mythos of the game or some kind of special event.

From Wikipedia, I left out the Net Slums, I think we will not need it mentioned. Ignore "The World" and put "Virtual Reality"

Arena
There are Arenas in every Root Town and they are for battling between players and occasionally monsters in events. The battling players can offer a prize to each other if they were beaten. Spectators can bet at the Betting Booth or among each other.

Terms used:

Character Weapons: A weapon that came with creating the character. These weapons are unique and cannot be sold, traded or stolen. A Character weapon has no special abilities unless added or enchanted on. The attack power depends on the level of the character and the enchantments and additions added to it.

Member Number: These numbers are important as they are the identification number of the player. Each character has a unique number. These numbers can be traded (Let other people know them) so players can become friends, join teams, register for the Arena battles and let into friend's hideouts.

Liv's Story:

More than a month ago, Liv joined in the most popular game of the time, Virtual Reality. She was having an online conversation with a friend, whom recommended her to play.

Ana: Hey Liv! You know you know you should play that game it really is fantastic!

Liv: Yeah... I should shouldn't I? I hear everyone is blabbing all about it: "Virtual Reality this, Virtual Reality that."

Ana: Well duh. It is a shocker on how good it is.

Liv: Yeah. I know, I read all about it. I was planning on buying the game.

Ana: Go buy it! When you join, remember to add my Member Number. It is: FH932087.

Liv: OK. I really have to leave now to go to sleep. I will be seeing you around!

Ana: Have a good night! Make sure you add me!

Liv bought the game the next week with her earned money from working at the local grocery store and installed it onto her computer.

'Welcome to Virtual Reality'. Her computer screen read and the speakers said as she finished installing.

'Please put on your head gear now' She did so and the words scrolled by her eyes, changing colours to whatever she thought of.

'No character was found. Would you like to create one now? If so think yes.'

Liv thought and the next screen appeared, 'Good. To do actions you think of it. Now create your character.'

A screen appeared with a model of a human body and a Name and Class box, quickly she thought of all the things she wanted for her character. They appeared to her delight.

Blue and cream for the sky and sea, for the foam and clouds.

She had read all about Virtual Reality and the manual that came with the game and she knew exactly what to do.

'You have finished creating your character. Your Member Number is: RT732974. This information would be stored in your Journal. You are ready to log in. Welcome Ruqua. Which server?'

Liv looked down and noticed she looked exactly what she thought for her character. Ruqua smiled as she noticed she was in a Chaos Gate and said the three key words clearly "Australia Server Root Town."

She landed softly, her boots making no sound as she landed and the multicoloured glaze disappeared. Words briefly appeared in her field of vision Root Town - Azyu. Soft background music played and she felt everything like it was real. She shifted her halberd from her left hand to the right and started walking to the Chaos Gate.

"America Server Root Town," she said in the Gate, thinking she would have to add her friend first, before training.

Root Town - Ouru was the words that appeared when the circle of light dropped, exposing her to the town.

She added her friend and an open book appeared in her vision. It had the member number, member name, level and status as column headings.

'Your member number has been traded, Member FH932087 has been added.'

FH932087 Tresa Level 3 Offline

That was what her friend's row appeared as.

She headed to the Chaos Gate to train and level.

That was more than a month ago.

Ruqua leaned against a wall near the town centre where most of the new players pop up and announcements were made. She was bored and tired from battling. Ruqua was mildly interested in the squabble amongst who was stronger and better from a Heavy Blade called Furis and a Heavy Axeman called Meran. Ruqua was counting the minutes they would finish their arguement and was up to more than an hour.

Ruqua fiddled with her blue cap she found in after battling a Cursed Tree and finally jammed it on her head. She reached for her halberd which was leaning next to her when the "Ding!" (That was only audible to her) of new mail stopped her. Her reached above her head for the envelope which was flashing and pulled it down to read.

The envelope became a floating translucent rectangular piece with black lettering. On the left corner was a head shot of the sender and along the top was the Subject and Sender name, all ruled off from the message.

RE: Meeting Place Sender: Tresa
Yeah, fine I'll meet you at your hideout. But I will be there tomorrow at that time, 8am and onwards your time. I need to go... (T _ T)

Cya there!
Tresa

She sighed and wiped her hand over the message which disappeared.

Artesia smiled as she read the e-mail.
"I sent you a gift. Get on and find me. My Member Number is GS468664. My parents still won't tell me where we're going. That's the problem being rich. Your mom thinks it's a fun surprise to switch countries. I should be back for college. See ya!
-Jenn
"

Artesia was a bit surprised by this gift. "Why would I need to 'get on and find her?'" She opened the box that had been delivered yesterday and gasped. "She bought me Virtual Reality?" As usual, she instantly wanted to return it, but Jenn had never quite gotten the message that a normal college student wasn't supposed to buy things like Virtual Reality for him or herself, much less for someone else. Artesia sighed, not wanting to put off her best friend since grade school, and read the manual cover to cover. She plugged it into the wall and her computer and installed it.
"Welcome to Virtual Reality," a computer-generated female voice said through the speakers and the screen read. "Please put on your head gear now." I hope I get this right, she thought as she complied. After a short pause: "No character was found. Would you like to create one now? If so think yes." She did. "Good. To do actions, think of them. Now create your character." She did slowly, as she normally did everything, sitting in the box on top of the packing peanuts, occasionally thinking how comfortable they'd be in a beanie bag, only to find with dismay that she'd turned into a beanie bag again. She finally managed to create her character.
"You have finished creating your character. Your Member Number is: FG846864. This information will be stored in your Journal. You are ready to log in. Welcome Soran. Which server?"
That was when Artesia remembered that she had no idea where Jenn would be logging in from. Crap. Since it would probably be easiest to start closest to home, she said, "America Server Root Town." As the rainbow fog cleared, she read, Root Town - Ouru. Maybe, just maybe Jenn signed up before she moved. Fat chance, considering I haven't seen her in a month, but let's try anyway. She tried to add Jenn, but a red error message read,
GS468664 Terrania Level 2 is not a valid member on this server.
Crap.

A player appeared and she tilted her head up so she could see better.

Heavy Blade Soran Lvl 1 was what appeared beside her.

Must be new or something... She thought, reaching sideways for her weapon. She held the weapon in front of her and leaned forward.

Ruqua winced as her cramped muscles left the wall.

"Aah," she sighed loosening her muscles and started to hobble past Furis and Meran who both decided to challenge each other in the Arena and were now arguing about the prize. Her muscles were loosening quickly and she felt better.

"Do you, require any help at all?" She said in her clear voice when she was nearly where Soran was.

Some other players glanced at her as they passed, with their faces clearly saying "Foreigner." Ruqua ignored the curious glances and straightened up herself with the help of her halberd.

Soran was busy looking around, slightly panicking and wondering if there is such a thing as latent agoraphobia, when she heard an Australian accent behind her. She turned around--right into a halberd. "Aah!" she yelled and jumped. She then calmed down and ducked her head when she saw people laughing and giggling. She heard more than one person whisper or say, "N00b."
"Actually, I could use some help," she said behind her hair.
PostPosted: Mon May 29, 2006 12:28 am

She almost jumped as well with the unexpected reaction.

"Uh, sorry about that," she moved her halberd to her side, making sure she did not knock anyone passing.

"Don't mind them," she said softly, "They were like that when they were n00bs." At that last comment she raised her voice a little louder in some sort of challenge to those listening. Ruqua knew most wouldn't bother challenging her, the boredom tended to make her more daring.

"I would be willing to help, no cost as helping would save me from boredom."

"I'd be thinking you were on some kind of quest or something," Soran said, raising her eyes to see above the other girl's head, "Long Arm Ruqua Lvl 10" in answer to her silent request for information. "Um, thanks. Well, I could use some money. How do you go about getting that?"
PostPosted: Mon May 29, 2006 3:50 pm

"Hehe," She smiled at the first comment. "Battling, the essential for getting items and gold. If not trading rare items, but those require battling as well."

Ruqua glanced at the huge flight of stairs up to the grand stone pillars in which behind lay the large rotating mystical looking circle which was the Chaos Gate. The building was a few hundred metres from the edge of the town square.

"I can help, though I would have to say that I am pretty too high level to battle Lvl 1 creatures," she said thoughtfully, "Well anyways I think you should join my party. Do you?"

She sent a request for joining her party, a small warning appeared saying if Ruqua traded Member Numbers she would automatically become friends with Soran and she would be allowed to visit her hideout. Ruqua knew the warning would be sent to Soran as well and waited for the reply.

A large question mark appeared in front of Soran's head. "RT732974 Ruqua has sent a request to trade Member Numbers with you. Please note that if you trade Member Numbers with Ruqua she will automatically be listed as a friend. Do you wish to continue?" the automatic voice said. Soran thought yes. "RT732974 Ruqua is now listed as a friend. This will be stored in your friendslist in your Journal."
"Thanks for adding me. I can fight the monsters on my own. That shouldn't be too big a problem. My biggest problem, actually, is that I can't find a friend of mine. She must be logged onto another server. How many servers does Virtual Reality have?"
PostPosted: Tue May 30, 2006 12:38 am

"No problems. Well.... That is a hard question, the Reality Maintenance staff add servers every week or so and take off others for maintenance and scanning. As you know all servers have a unique Root Town..." Ruqua said trailing off before continuing, "It may be quite hard unless you know where you want to look. This is the main server for visitors, first timers, and traders though there are others listed in the Web Page. In America I think it is... 104 servers in total, the last time I have checked."

She thought this as a major problem indeed as Virtual Reality was growing every day and more servers being added.

"Uh...okay..." Crap. "I'll just have to wait for her to tell me where in the world she's logged on from. Whoa!" Soran exclaimed as a "Ding!" was heard and an envelope appeared above her head. "Hold on, I have mail."
Hi Hi! Sender: Terrania
Hi Arty! It took me forever to find you. Where in the world are you? I'm logged in from the Europe server. Apparently the big surprise was that my dad bought out a small country. Literally. *eye roll* Anyway, I'm currently fighting with a group on the Asia server. I'll meet you in Ouru sometime later, I guess, since I figure you'll be there. Unless, you have another foreign friend that I don't know about... *shifty eyes* This is going to take a few hours, so go have fun before I come. Oh yeah, you'll have to come to Iryu, the Europe Server Root Town, to add me to your friendlist. Bye bye!
-Jenn

Soran sweatdropped in her head and was surprised to feel a huge drop of water come down the side of her face. Weird. But cool. "Yeah, that was my friend. She'll be fighting on the Asia server for a few hours. She said she'd meet up with me later. So," she perked up, "Where's the best place to get some practice?"
PostPosted: Tue May 30, 2006 3:24 pm

"Cool," she said enthusiastically, curious about the mail but letting it go at the asked question.
"The Field for Lvl Ones, unless you want to go to a higher level place with me. I warn you it will be pretty tough for your first battle. I remember I couldn't wield my halberd because it was too heavy and had to have a friend help me. Haha... But maybe you are a natural" she laughed remembering her first battle.

"Let's go then," she said gesturing before starting to walk to the grand stone building that was identical in every Root Town.

"Hehe, I doubt it. I do nothing even remotely close to this in real life." Soran decided, just for test's sake, to try moving her sword. It got stuck, ripping a hole into her vest on its way out. "Aw man," she said, turning around to see the tear. Unfortunately her sword still held in the air with both her hands, hit a wall, and her balance being off, she fell over. As she got up and dusted herself off, she muttered, "Why do I have a feeling this is going to be bad?"
