It is the year 2090. The United States of America is at war with France. The war started about 20 years ago, when the United States invaded and captured Canada, then moved on to Mexico. The U.S. was going to start an invasion of South America when France stepped in. France felt threatened by the U.S., and declared war on them. I am a fighter for the U.S. France will stop at nothing to have us defeated. We are allis with England, who lies right above France, Germany, and Russia. France, however, is allies with many small countries, so many it would be hard for me to name them all. Unfortunately, their soldiers greatly out number ours. Our weapons are better, though, so we actually have the upper hand. The U.S. has, after many years of preparation, finally developed a laser gun that can kill. We use these guns. With out them, we would die. We have a nuclear bomb, but our allies said they will attack us if we use it, so we haven't yet. But, if worse comes to worse, we may have to use it. It may become our only life line. I have been trained not to be scared, but I am still frightened. Tomarrow I leave, and am going to France to fight. I may not return. This scares me.
This is the day I have been dreading. Today, I leave for France. I have to be at the airport at noon. U.S. troops have captured air bases in France, and I will be landing at one of those. Fort Bennington, I think. In my military fatigues, I must have been quite a sight to the flight attendant. I don't know why they call them Fatigues, because ever since I put them on, my heart has been racing, and I couldn't even sleep on the plane, despite my efforts. The plane lands at the base, and I am immediately handed my gun. An SKR-KL laser rifle. One well placed shot can kill. I'd have to be careful. All laser rifles are battery powered. You'd think if they could create a killing laser, they at least could create a better power source. Oh well. One battery is good for about five thousand shots. They can create a better battery, but not a better source. It's kind of amazing, really. Despite their genius, the inventors of this gun were so stupid. They made the battery case so hard to open, you'd almost definitely get killed if you ran out of ammo. That's why we always reload between fire fights. Just a precaution. If you've ever seen a war movie, you've seen the main character with an automatic weapon, wearing the bullets on a sort of sash. Well, we've got the same thing, only instead of bullets, we have battery sashes. Thankfully, the batteries are rechargable, so we never run out of ammo. Except when we all have to charge our batteries. We usually charge our gun batteries when we recharge our own batteries. You know, when we occasionly get some R&R. But What am I talking about? I haven't even been on the battle field yet.
