You could say, I currently am. Though, the freedom is nice, and I have learned more about myself and the world around me with it, I'm a structure whore, so we might compromise and have a little of both schoolish work, and unschooling. (I feel like I have more energy and fun when I do boring school work, my mom feels more energy and fun when we do unschooling, my brother is in between. So, yeah.)
When my mom pulled us out of school, she said she wanted to unschool us. I had looked it up on the internet, and it did seem fun, so for two years we've done unschooling. And I admit, I've learned more about the world around me, and myself with unschooling, it's just now that I'm getting into my early teen years, I'm going to compromise with my mom to make a more... structured family unschooling. What and How the hell are we going do that? I have no idea yet. xd
Ah well, I'm not sure if I've gotten the right idea of unschooling yet. I've read articles about it, I've seen two or three people do it, and say they have results for it, but that unschooling experience for me, did help, was cool, now I'm not sure if it's right for me. ninja Did you ever get that feeling while unschooling? Like it felt funky, and you wanted to do something more... school like? Or maybe it's just because I was in school for a good chunk of my life, and I'm still not exactly used to doing things in a more... unschooling structure?

I was in school till about the middle of 2nd grade. So I haven't much experiance with public, private, or any other school. I love unschooling and everything about it. I get a feeling of freedom and learning alot at the same time. unschooling is not right for everyone and that is perfectly exceptable. biggrin

i think i will start unschooling when Ari is older, maybe 9 it depends on what age she learns to read fluently.

Can you define unschooling? Mainly 'cause I'm not sure what kind of homeschooling I do. I most certainly don't go to school, but I take classes with teacher-ish people, yet I don't really have a set ciriculem. So, I'm not really sure...

So, I'm not really sure... unschooling is i understand to be child lead learning. kids live to learn, but many see it as a chore if forced. unschooling there is no force. a parent might encorage certains paths of education but mostly i think the kid decides what they learn. someone please correct me if i am wrong.

Kind of. I do work out of books a lot, but it's by my own choice, and I research things that interest me. I teach myself, and I choose what I want to learn, and how I'm going to learn it. So... I guess that might be considered unschooling, to some extent? confused

Well then, no, I don't unschool. I don't have enough of a work ethic to be unschooled. If I did that, I wouldn't learn anything. I'd spend my day on gaia, then on IM, then on... like... Minesweeper. I'm just not that way. It'd be cool if I could, but it wouldn't work.

Yes! And I've met unschoolers from at least 20 familys - my county's homechooling association has an annual Unschooler's Poolparty. whee
I strongly reccomend The Teenage Liberation Handbook by Grace Llewellyn for people considering Unschooling - very very good book. 3nodding
