Is there anything one can do about being depressed? Anyway to fix it? If there is... it would really just help me out a bit.

Depression isn't curable. There is no quick fix. I wish there was, but there isn't. Well, unless you want to take anti-depressants, but the tend to do more harm than good for most. There are things that can help ease the intensity of the feelings, but that often depends on what kind of depression it is. Teenagers often grow out of it, especially after they leave home. So if you're still at that point, just hang on a few more years (I know, easier said than done, I'm having that problem myself).

No, the doctors say I have depression, I already took the pills and I'm so sick of them. Just every so often now I just get SO down because of random crap and I don't know what to do. I don't like feeling this way.

*raises hand* Do something to counteract the depression. Balance it out! If you are sad read a good book to cheer you up or something. Meditate and focus on the feeling of Calm or Happy. THOSE are the true cures. OK that did NOT come from me. I have no clue where that came from! I'll have to post a thread on that...how did I know that stuff? (Don't answer that.)

I'll have to post a thread on that...how did I know that stuff? (Don't answer that.) Being someone who's lived with depression, I must say the following: 1. You haven't tried enough medicines. (Had friend recently talk to me about that, ask if you don't get it and I can post it.) 2. Go outside often. The sunlight and fresh air does you good. 3. Exercise more. The body releases endorphins. Being heavier also requires more medication. 4. Make sure you have a schedule. Getting up every day, showering, what not. Hope that helps. If you're still depressed, I don't know what.

or you could balance yourself, if you have enough willpower and self-control.

Wearing amber jewelry always helped me...dunno if that's really the kind of solution you wanted to hear, but there it is. Oh, and you could always talk to someone ^_^

Sorry, I just have these moments where I get depressed. I feel like I'm in a hole of tar like a dinosaur, with absolutely no help in sight. I know it doesn't last long I just wish I could prevent it.

In particular, I'm studying behavior right now.
A regular doctor will prescribe countless amounts of medication for you to take.
I have a different method for you.
Try to essentially record your day on paper. Carry note cards around with you, and just jot notes on about what time it is, what's going on, and more importantly exactly what you are thinking and feeling. Don't paraphrase at all, they are specific thoughts that after a certain point will need to be addressed directly.
Eventually you will notice certain patterns. Something similar will happen, or you will think/feel certain things, then you will get depressed.
I can try and help you get rid of depression, but I'm only a College student taking a class about it (in the middle of my own self change project). there is a book called "Self-Directed Behavior" by two authors. Watson and Thorp. If you can pick up a copy of that book, it will be very useful and helpful to you.

I don't think I've gotten depressed lately. I'm sure I'll get a little down or so in the next week, but that'd be due to female issues. Thanks for everyone's help. I've been reading your posts.

Khalida and Koemiko have some very good points. Bless them both for an educated response. Also check in with you diet - bad diet can often aggravate a mild depression into a chronic/major one. Hell, there have been studies showing that most homeless people, even the initially sane ones, eventually go batshit loco because of the typical homeless person's lousy diet.
Make sure you're eating fresh fruits and veggies - they're better than canned or frozen, which are better than none at all.
Cut back on processed meats (bologna and hot dogs and similar), and avoid nukable meal-in-a-box type things. They're not all bad, but it's easier to avoid them all until you know which are okay.
Then cut back on caffeine and increase your water intake. Notice I did not say to cut OUT caffeine - doing that while increasing water is likely to give you a very nasty headache for a week or two. Chronic low-level dehydration (you're getting water, but not enough) will also aggravate depression, as well as causing feelings of panic and helplessness. In more sensitive people, it will cause full-fledged panic attacks and the urge to self-harm. No, I'm not making that up, that's what finally got me to drink friggin' water. Nothing says "drink up" like a resting heart rate of 180+bpm and fighting back the urge to cut off my own digits.

I've cut out caffine completely and i'm a LOT more happier than i was back in highschool. Also don't be afraid to be random - a lot of people have issues in social situations and that causes depression - i myself randomly high-five people just to feel better about some things. And you can also do things just for you, like if you feel uncomfortable about something write about it or talk about it to someone - that usually helps me, so it might help you! the less stress the better best! Have a nice day and don't let it turn gray! ~Nikki

Depression CAN be cureable, though it isn't always. The best option from all studies appears to be a combination of medication and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Try looking into that. You'll naturally be resistant to the idea, but you'll find it makes perfect sense, and from all reports--it works.
