for at least 6 months, about a year ago, i was abusing my ativan (taking well over even the hospital dose, at that.) i managed to stop for quite some time, not even needing ativan for the daily panic attacks i got.

recently, i started again. i've been feeling abandoned and disrespected by friends, and i find that the ativan gives me a nice high and helps me to feel better.

can anyone suggest methods of coping, or ways to avoid the ativan?

i AM going to tell my doctor i've started up again, there is no doubt in my mind, lest something bad happens.

I'm afraid that I don't know much about coping with substance abuse, but you have my support. I'm glad that you're going to tell your doctor right away. Sometimes I take Valium, a sister drug, and I worry about becoming addicted.

I'm perscirbed Ritalin from time to time, and it's ******** me over a lot. My tolerance has grown so high over the past year that I'll eventualy overdose. I've already overdosed or come really close to an overdose three or four times, it sucks.

I also agree that it's a good idea to talk to your doctor about this, and perhaps you should have him perscribe something else?

Well, in a way, it *is* supposed to make you feel better. But the way to handle your problems with your friends is to confront them. Ativan can help you solve your problems in a sane way (i.e., not freak out when you're discussing this, either with your therapist or your friends themselves), but it's not a good idea to just use it as a security blanket to escape your problems. (I'm sure you already know abusing it is a bad thing)

Are you having physical withdrawal symptoms? Those alone are a reason to be careful about your benzo intake. I love my ativan, but the last thing I want is to need it more than I did when I started it.
