Feminazi is...
A term we should embrace and make our own
A term popularized by Rush Limbaugh to KEEP US DOWN
A term I'm getting damn tired of hearing

Wikipedia

Feminism is a diverse collection of social theories, political movements, and moral philosophies, largely motivated by or concerning the experiences of women. Most feminists are especially concerned with social, political, and economic inequality between men and women; some have argued that gendered and sexed identities, such as "man" and "woman," are socially constructed. Feminists differ over the sources of inequality, how to attain equality, and the extent to which gender and sexual identities should be questioned and critiqued. Thus, as with any ideology, political movement or philosophy, there is no single, universal form of feminism that represents all feminists.

Wikipeda

Feminazi is an invective neologism used predominantly in United States political rhetoric to characterize women whose ideas are believed to be vehemently misandrous; i.e.- having an irrational and extreme hatred of men. The word is a blend derived from feminist and Nazi. The term was popularized by conservative broadcaster Rush Limbaugh.

Any time someone uses the word feminist on Gaia, or says something about how something is disrespectful to women, they are automatically called a feminazi, and flamed for pages while their actual point is ignored.

Do you think people actually understand what feminism is? If not, how could we go about educating others?

Most people, especially guys today view feminism as a way women try to be on top of men, they believe that we already have equal rights, but do we? I believe that feminism is a great way to obtain women's rights but don't go over board.

It seems that people who aren't educated in the history of women's liberation assume that all feminists are man-hating, flannel-wearing bulldykes (no offense to those who are). It gets so tiring posting all the time that "no, not all feminists hate men. Those pretty much only existed in the early 1970s...etc. etc." It doesn't really appear to matter how much I debate or attempt to educate people on the matter. I think it all boils down to people's willingness to learn something with which they're uncomfortable. It may seem pointless, but I think that in the end, if feminists reach just a few people at least that's all that matters. That's progress.

I think most people do not know what feminism is because the anti-feminist movement that defeated the ERA still persists. Feminism is as simple as wanted equality for both genders in as many areas as possible. Feminazis to me are women who consider women superior to men and want the benefits of feminsm without the obligations such as being subject to a draft should one ever happen in a time of war.

Rare to find but I've meet a few. Many when I was younger and in groups of adoloscent girls where I was the only male. I've encountered a couple at college in debates over a draft where they are fine getting the benefits of citizenship but not paying up to responsibilities. My mom may be considered one because she wants equality for genders while at the same time getting pissed off if I don't open a door for her or pull out a chair for her every time.

i've never heard of feminazism before... i think that term is way too rude and disrespectful to put on feminist women...
they should be able to show their beliefs and desires for rights however they wish, if you ask me...
of course, i've never heard of this term before, so forgive me if i sound like an idiot. smile

I hate that term feminazi. I think it's one of my father's favorite words to use when he sees me reading a book by a feminist author. rolleyes

I have never met any of these "feminazis". All feminists I know do not hate men, most have boyfriends/husbands, and most do follow the lastest fashion trends, read Cosmo, and do what most average women do. They don't think they're superior to men, they just want to be equal.

But does she expect the same of women?

Maybe it's because she's your mother and so wants respect as she would be considered an authority figure in your life.

Nice speculations but she has said as much that she wants me to grow up to a chilvarous male. I don't respond well to authority figures I don't respect and she would be one of those.

Everyone's family has their own scratches. My grandparents keep asking me if I've gotten a boyfriend yet, as if it's obvious that I should make that my life mission.

I embrace the term Feminazi. It seems every time sexism and misogyny is mentioned, it's "OMG! FEMINAZI!". I think people don't get what feminism is. To me, it's equality regardless of gender. Hating men, in my opinion, is totally against the principles of feminism. Being a lesbian, not shaving, and wearing flannel isn't a requirement to be a feminist.

I've often heard women say, "Oh I'm not a feminist...but I believe in (equality for women, etc.)". That IS feminism. That IS what feminism is about. But so many people have a negative idea or feelings about feminism they prefer not to identify as one.

I think the Anti-Flag song "Feminism is for Everybody with a Beating Heart and a Functioning Brain" fits this well.
