why is it that people either call him atem or atemu??? cause i though it was atemu at first but like 3 weeks ago i saw the episode where they siad his name and yami yugi's all like "i am... ATEM!!!!!!!!!" and i's like "O_o;;" so yeah... is it just cause they decided to change his name for different countrie or what?

It's Atemu origanlly in the Japanese eppys. Atem is for our dub. Like how its origanally Mahado, they call him Mahad here.

So I don't feel bad for having Atem on my cartouche then. ninja I got it in January and I was like "Must get cartouche with Atem on it." My mom looked at me like I was nuts when I ordered it. But it's silver just like his was ^_^ I should get a picture of it sometime...
But that just shows I'm a devoted Yami/ Atem(u) fan. Maybe obsessive... but hey that's why I'm here. 3nodding

The Japanese just add vowels to the end of their words a lot, so Atem would sound like Atemu and Mahado is the correct spelling, but it's pronounced Mahad.

His name is Atemu, but Atem technically isn't incorrect either. In Japanese 99% of words end in vowels, but sometimes those vowels aren't pronounced. So while to Egyptians he'd be "Atemu" some of the japanese characters may pronounce it "Atem." Same as how Malik is an Arabic name, but the japanese pronounce it "Mariku."
Hence them being named Atem and Marik in the english version. Mahaado to Mahaad was just a cruel act of dubbing, since Os don't become silent in Japanese.

Another bit about pharaoh's name that I just remembered is to look at where his name actually came from. He's named after one of the Egyptian gods, Atum. Atum was the first god, came out of a mountain I believe, and then created the other gods. He's also the god of the setting sun(Why is someone who's the embodiment of the rising/daytime sun named after the setting sun? I have no idea ninja ).
But the point is, like most of the gods there are several different versions of Atum's name and one of those happens to be Atemu.
That doesn't necessarily set anything in stone, but it's a nice little tidbit of name meaning, I suppose. 3nodding

Same here. Although when I use Atem I usually use dub names. But when I use Atemu, I usually use Japanese names. It just fits in with the rest. 3nodding

That doesn't necessarily set anything in stone, but it's a nice little tidbit of name meaning, I suppose. 3nodding My grandmother got me a book of myths and legends from all over the world and there was a story like the one you mentioned, but was mostly different. In the story, the Sun God Ra had 4 different names. One was his most secret name, but the rest he willingly gave away. The Sun God Ra I am Khephera in the morning, Ra at noon, and Atum in the evening. I am the Maker of Heaven and the Earth, the Builder of Mountains and the Creator of Rivers..." I just thought that this would help. The person who wrote the book did lots of research.
