DISCLAIMER: Apon rereading the title and the first few paragraphs, I just realized how misleading this can seem. XP The topic itself is about interreligious frendships and relationships, but Andy is purely a very good friend. XP I may be an open minded Agnostic, but personally have no attraction toward the male sex. You may want to just skip down to the final paragraph.
Oddly nough the friendship between Hayabashi and Jin reminds me of my friendship with a guy named Andy, except it's quite different. Me and Andy became friends in December back in the second grade, he was a Jehovah's Whitness who wasn't celebrating Christmas in the little Pagent for obvious reasons, and I just weaseled out because I hated singing and dancing. (Note that back then I was sure there was a God, but was only raised knowing about Methodism and found myself constantly questioning things I heard in church, so technically back then one could either consider my a Christian OR Agnostic.)
We got talking about how corny it was that in movies the human good guys were always winning, and started using legos to enact a scenario where lego monsters were beating the army. In the third grade we were actually in the same class and became good friends, finding many similarities that kind of worked well in finishing a sort of spectrum with things we liked. For example... He liked Godzilla, I liked Rodan. He liked Predator, I liked Aliens. He liked dogs, I liked cats. And so on and so on... The topic of religion did come up, but only after the seventh grade. Although there were quite a few arguments, there were also many calm discussions and in the end it was a great friendship that continues today, although I only get to hang out with him maybe once a year now, so we spend the time holding little video game tournements with his siblings.
My sister didn't have such a pleasant interreligious friendship situation though... With a few friends who were a bit strict with their faith in Catholicism, as soon as they found out she was actually looking into what different neopagan religions believed, they began to actually shun her, their parents banned her from calling or visiting them, and they started a prayer circle at their church for her soul.
Now this next part may seem unrelated, but it all comes together in the end... In my life I have been in many relationships, most not very good really... When I was 13 there was a girl I dated who claimed to be Catholic, but obviously wasn't very devout since she cheated on me by HAVING SEX with a HIGHSCHOOL SENIOR. O_o Then there was an Agnostic girl I dated from the age of 14 to 15 who eventually broke up with me to become a lesbian. (Shut up. >_>)
Then there was a girl who claimed to be Wiccan but was in all reality, a fluffbunny who knew nothing what so ever about the religion she claimed to practice. You know, just another teen trying to rebel against her parents in a way that I personally think is degrading and insulting to the true pagans. (She was a complete b***h who also put way too much into astrology.) After that came a relationship with a Christian girl who was pretty nice and open minded, but in the end she wasn't quite the one... Then came another fluffbunny who was a bit TOO nice, but incredibly annoying.
After that came Briana, my best relationship EVER. It lasted well over a year, she was nice, she was intelligent, to me she was utterly beautiful, she was pretty open minded, and she was generally pleasant. Just speaking to her made and still makes me feel all warm and fuzzy, and I cannot lay down while talking to her on the phone or there's a risk of actually falling to sleep in comfort. I'm still not sure about her religious denomination... It seems sort of like something between Christian and Agnostic.
ANYHOW! Now that I'm done typing up what would probably have been much better as a journal entry than a topic here, what are you guys' opinions on the whole interreligious friendships and relationships? Also, since I gave such a long and probably boring explanation of some of my and my sibling's experiences with them, do you guys have any notable experience in the fields?

I love my friends of other faiths and religions. A quarter of my family is Scientologists, another quarter is athiest, while me and my bro and sis are Christians. You could never get me to hate them or not want to be with them. EVER.
To tell you the truth, the only Christian friends I have are on Gaia. Everyone else follows something different. For example, a really good friend of me and Jay is part of a Scientologist family. She's one of the coolest people I've ever met.
Of course, there have been friends who started hating me because of religion. A person named Suupa on Gaia and I were friends until she found out my mother is a Scientologist. Well, things got ugly so I stopped talking to her.
I guess it all really depends on the person and how much tolerance they have.

Only people who doubt what they believe...(oxymoron!) in some way should feel intimidated by hanging out with other belief holding people.
Myself? I believe a lot of Christians are more like the old sadducees and pharasees who were so wrapped up in the mosaic law that they missed the whole point of what God's will is.
I have to laugh every time they tried to trick Jesus into saying something that was "wrong" according to the LAW of that time. They were always with foot in mouth at the end. Marveling at His awesome wit.
"Should we pay taxes to Ceaser or give offering to God." ..."Whose face is on the coin? ...give to ceaser what is his and God what is His." BAM just like that. In yo face. Anyway. There are a lot of instances i can pull up but then i am getting off topic (as normal)
The point is if you BELIEVE in something it should not be shaken by anything other than the truth. But if you have doubt in something, you can't really say you believe in it in the first place. Even Jesus kicked back with the tax collectors and sinners. Why? Because He couldn't be shaken by them. He believed his truth and was showing them his truth by example. Not that fire and brimstone holier than thou schpiel.
The only thing I don't advise is the assumption that two COMPLETELY different spiritual backgrounds enter a committed situation without first talking about their expectations and the importance level of each of their faiths BEFORE all the gooey love feeling start to ooze through your pores.
Our beliefs make up a great deal of who we are. And if there is too much of a difference there will always be a silent, or not so silent resentment and trying to change the other person. No really close relationship should be that way. When i say close, i mean like the narrow road to marraige.
Okay. It's like 1:20 in the A.m. I'm sure none of that made sense and 75% of the words were not spelled or typed correctly.
Deal with it. I'll come back later when i am coherent

I agree! 100%
The stuff about Jesus is my favorite. I LOVE that verse! I was actually just thinking about when Jesus answered the pharisee's questions and caused them to as you put it, stick their foot into their mouths.
