I decided about five seconds ago that I wanted another forum to discuss whatever. Still love Zorya's USBB thread, but I fugure we can make other topics on more specific randomness (woo, oxymoron there). Um... yeah.
Current Rant! Summer drama + Driver's Ed
Egh. So today was my first driver's ed class. I guess it's okay, I mean it was the first class, so mostly we covered classroom rules, specifications for permits and liscences, and a little bit on signs. Woot. But I REEEAAAALLLY don't wanna take the actual DRIVING part, which I'll have to do sooner or later. And it kinda has to be sooner, so I can hurry up and get a liscence. I may even have to get a hardship's because by the time I'm sixteen, I won't have had my permit for 6 months (and my school starts up before I'm sixteen, so I'm screwed). And I um... kinda need to drive as soon as schools start up, especially since I'll be doing dual enrollment at a community college AND another high school to get my latin credits. egh. But I'm so nervous! And it's for really stupid reasons to. I mean, I've never driven (unless you count this one time going in circles at our lake property), so I'm not exactly expected to be great, right? But I'm still nervous that I will be the stupidest person behind the wheel ever, and I'll probably just mess up BECAUSE of my nervousness. crying I don't wanna drive... I mean, it's nice for the convenience, I just don't want to LEARN. Wow this is long.
Summary of above: OHGODNOTDRIVINGWHYMEWAAAAAH!!! gonk
So, this was too long to get into my family drama, but just between drama and driving, I have no time for anything (the drama seems to be cutting into even the driving time thing).
Anyways, discuss/whine/rant/insert something else here about stuff going on with you guys this summer, and whatnot.

All I know is you turn the key, put it in whatever gear it's supposed to be (park and neutral are probably not it), and press the right pedal thing to make it go. ...yeah.

Aeridea Myslec Aeridea OHGODNOTDRIVINGWHYMEWAAAAAH!!! I'll second that! Actually, It's not that bad once one gets used to it, but the beginning is stressful. I wish you luck. crying I have no idea how to drive. All I know is you turn the key, put it in whatever gear it's supposed to be (park and neutral are probably not it), and press the right pedal thing to make it go. ...yeah. Be happy that you are driving an automatic, I started on a stick, and still drive one. They are nice, but harder to drive. Brake is in the middle, always. Gas is always on the right. IN a stick there is and additional pedal on the left called the clutch. the right foot operated both the gas and brake. these pedals shouldn't be pressed at the same time in normal circumstances. in a manual (stick) the left foot operated the clutch. For automatics, Park and drive are the most important. Park is for being parked (not just stopped, parked). Drive is for roadway use, weather braking or accelerating or maintaining speed. In manuals, there are different gears for different speeds. Neutral for coasting (use this when stopping on a roadway in junction with brakes), ! is to start moving or to just creep along, 2 is faster, 3 is faster, exc. the gears must be applied in this order, skipping gears is possible, but one must be up to the correct speed or the car gets unhappy. the clutch must be applied while one switches gears. power is removed from the wheels when the clutch is applied. Reverse is used to go backwards. Automatic cars do have gears, but they change automatically with speed. To park manuals, the car should be left in reverse(for Saabs, others may vary) while the engine is shut down. I hope that wasn't overwhelming, and that is helps.

It does actually help, because I plan to eventually learn to drive a stick, just so I know what to do with one.
What sucks is right now I gotta have all the silly little rules memorized by tomorrow (so why am I not studying? confused ) because I have to take the DPS test and get my permit. Then I gotta worry about the actual DRIVING part. I've only done a practice-type-thingy once, and I still have no idea what's going on. Have not exactly been able to coordinate driving and checking mirrors... or learned what all the buttons are for (don't know how to turn on headlights). Oh god this will suck.

Wow. Apparently, I passed! Now I just gotta wait for the permit and get my permit. Oh, and then I'm forcing my parents to take me to an empty parking lot. There is no way in hell I'm driving in real traffic with the intructor and no idea what in god's name I'm doing. I need to AT LEAST feel comfortable with turning.

And being able to distinguish the brake from the accelerator wouldn't hurt.

Just keep hitting things until the car does what you want. You'll learn as you go along. biggrin

ChaosZorya Just keep hitting things until the car does what you want. You'll learn as you go along. biggrin That's what I tried last time... my mom was not pleased. What does she EXPECT, especially if she doesn't tell me anything. Parents shouldn't assume that their kids will know everything about cars by instinct.

Just wait 'till a year from now. You'll be able to laugh at yourselves and your own struggles. It will all pass soon enough.

ChaosZorya Don't drive the car . . . BE the car. It's easier to do that in a nice car, with a manual transmission. The control the driver has is phenomenal.
