I was wondering if you have any instrumental conflicts in your band. In my band, the trombones and trumpets really do not get along except for a few members of each section. We (the trombones) are always pulling pranks on the trumpets and they do the same. Do any of you have the same or similar situation?

Mine's not really a feud, but it could be soon. In the concert band we have way to many saxes. Theres 5 altos, 5 tennors and one bari(me). The tennors do not know tone control and are always drowning me out when i sit beside them. Last night at my schools arts festival, these two tennors were blaring on their tennors. Every time i had a bar of rest i would tell them to quiet down. They were always playing fortisimo(sp?) and getting everyone else in the band angry. We told them for the competition next week they better tone it down or their tennors would be going somewhere..
...this is why i hate being in band with grade 10's

We don't seem to have conflicts between sections. If something comes up, it's always just in one section.

Its just that woodwinds are actually a year ahead (at least) of the rest of the band, so we tend to get more frustrated....

Not really inter-section. Mostly inside each section. Like, me and this other alto have a sort of competition for first part... Though I don't think he knows it. XD It's just we each get first half the time and second half the time, so I'm always real pouty when I get second.... And he always asks for first when he gets second. It's just he doesn't act like he's competing with me. He seems to think he's entitled to have whatever part he wants even if the BD thinks I'm better sometimes... So I sorta hate him, but only because he's competition. He a pretty nice guy otherwise...

Is it because they're arrogant.... Just kidding guys.

well in my band its not the fueds but everybody hates the flutes because we get favored because the band director plays the flute (and everything else but she's a flute) and the tubas CANNOT play right.

I'm our only oboe, so I'm vastly outnumbered. I hate our bassoon player. The first flute and I have considered burning that forsaken instrument. It isn't that a basson is bad, but she just can't play it right.

Not really. We all get along pretty well. Everybody kind of makes fun of everybody else. Well, in the jazz band the brass players kept dissing the woodwinds. We kept saying they were stinky. rofl

Our jazz band has the same conflict.

Not in our band. I'm from Hawaii so everyone here is all for ALOHA! (love) Our band is like one big family. We hang out together, we help eachother with homework (no matter what grade your in), and we care for each other... relationships even form (like this one time when i dated a tenor sax player... BTW i play the Alto sax... and when i dumped him her went out with my good friend who plays the drums... which is a totally different story.... although me and the two of them are really good friends). We have little competitions with getting first chair and everything but our band is one big OHANA (family)... heart
