Safe Havens & Places to avoid
When in a public space and on the run from a horde of fleash eatign monsters, you just might need a place to rest. But where is the safest place?
Office Buildings: Good Once the first floor has been abandoned, the staircases destroyed, and the elevators shut down, an office building can be a tower of safety.
Schools: Good Inner-city schools have taken on a fortress-like atmosphere. Not only are the buildings themselves built to withstand a riot, but chain-link fences surrounding them make these halls of education look more like a military compound. Often, a school is your best bet--perhaps not for education but certainly for protection from an undead attack.
Hospitals: Bad Humans with bites or newly murdered corpses are allways brought to hospitals. The majority of first-wave zombies consist of medical staff or those involved with the treatment of cadavers. Chronological maps of zombie outbreaks show them literally radiating from these buildings.
Police Stations: Bad Unlike with hospitals, the reason for avoiding police stations has less to do with zombies than with humans. In all probability, the people living in your city or town will flock to the local police station, creating a nexus of chaos, bodies, and eventual blood.
Supermarkets: Bad Their huge glass doors, even when locked and gated, provide little protection. Reinforcement of these entrances would be difficult. Basically, the exterior of a supermarket is a giant display window, meant to show the fresh, delicious food withen. With humans on the inside and combies on the outside, that is exactly what it will do.
Shopping Malls: Bad In an outbreak of any class, heading for a shopping mall would mean heading for a center of chaos.
Churches: Bad The walking dead attack churches for one reason: It's where the food is. These places of worship, crammed with people loudly praying for their souls, have allways served as beacons for the undead. Aerial photographs have shown zombies migrating slowly twoard their future slaughterhouse: The nearest church.
Warehouses: Good Given their lack of windows, easily secured entrances, and generally spacious layouts, warehouses can be ideal refuge for an extended period of time. Many warehouses have a security office, ussuallyequipped with bathroom facilities and therefore an immediate source of water. If the merchandise that is stored there is both heavy and kept in large, durable crates, consider yourself lucky. These boxes can be used to reinforce doors.
Piers and Docks: Exellent With some modifications, adequate supplies, and the right location, any dock or pier can be made practically unreachable. Because zombies can neither swim nor climb, their only acess would be from land. Destroying that one acess point would leave you on an artificial island.

But some piers have the slopes that can allow zombies to walk back out of the bottom of the water xp

I'm going to the Middle School. It's pretty big, got heavy doors and a pond full of fishys if we run out of food. You know, right before one of my friends awake to see me holding a knife and fork over them due to hunger.

Ah. Even if I were being swarmed with hoardes of zombies, I wouldn't go to a school. Why? Because I just don't like them...nor trust them. lol I'd like to find myself in a rural area, y'know? Get as far away from living and non-living-living things as I can... (:

A few months ago, I wrote up a plan for what I would try to do if the school plan went bust.
1: Get supplies, may inculde attacking people for weapons, but its a risk I will take. 2: Get friends, make sure to have 5 fat ones incase zombies are catching up. 3: Get a School Bus, drive to Sams Club see if they have anything left. 4: Try to get to Alaska. Live there for a few years, live on fish and wolves, possibly snow owls and whales, if we're lucky we might eat wendigo.

This is a good plan too, but about number 2, maybe have 2 or 3 fat friends, you don't want all or most of your friends being zombies and you being lonley...other than that, pretty good. xd

For a short time I coinsidered building a safe house once I graduate and become a surgeon. Basicilly it was a big concrete building, with like forty guns on the roof and about twenty years of food and water, but then I realized I would have more fun traveling to Alaska. Lorenzo Gilovich This is a good plan too, but about number 2, maybe have 2 or 3 fat friends, you don't want all or most of your friends being zombies and you being lonley...other than that, pretty good. xd Yeah, if I brought five, the car couldn't move and we'd be stranded. Most of my friends are rather skinny, so I guess I could pick up some fat hitchikers or hobos or somthing.

Well, my school is VERY near, so it'd be pretty good, on account there are crowbars there and I have two axes, a machete, and a speargun. Also, there are heavy doors, and we have a gym, so it's VERY ideal!

I think A)School bad Idea because in a swarm how are you able to take on a class of the undead kids or more. B)Police building would not be so bad becasue they do have a room full of ammo and guns. thoe many people would go there and attract more zombies. C)Peirs and Docks are super bad really bad. Because if a zombie infected fish (dont ask how.)what eats fish then what eat the thing that ate the fish?Do you see where I am going with this , sharks, dolphins, and other water jumping creatures. D)WareHouse are bad but can be good.It is bad becasue you can be corrnerd and be mauled and it is good becasue there are tools to use.

A shopping mall could work, a shopping mall could work, a shopping mall could work....
I'll just keep telling myelf that.
But hey, in the early part of an outbreak (when the zombies have pretty much just been spotted) a shopping mall could definitely be barricaded and secured, there would definitely be enough manpower to do it.
Sure, there's the possibility someone might be infected, so for that reason just grab some supplies and hole up in the security room for a bit, long enough to tell whether or not someone was infected and turned everyone.
I live near the biggest mall in north America and I know the safe spots of the place. biggrin You know, the roomy places nobody ever goes to. There's this boat structure for parties, it's rarely ever used and has a roomy area beneath it. It's delightfully close to the food court, too. The walkway to it is wooden (which means easier demolishing) and is surrounded by an indoor lake, so if the survivors managed to barricade up before getting attacked by the single (or maybe more) infected person that infected them all I need only lure the zombies towrds me and watch them fall into very deep water. Maybe that strategy wouldn't kill em all, but at least around the food court would be safe.
