Every now and then, my system will freeze. Cursor and everything. Anybody know what might be wrong? The only thing I've done is unlock mp3 playback.
I'm running ubuntu Breezy Badger (not sure what version other than that).

Breezy Badger is 5.10, there's a new version (6.06, Dapper Drake)
What are you running when this happens? It could be a program, or it could be a kernel-not-liking-your-hardware problem.

I would either be running mozilla and bittorrent and the other times I would just be running Gnometris or just mozilla.

Then I'd say Linux, or the version of the Kernel in Ubuntu Breezy doesn't like something about your hardware.

Hmm.. I guess I'll try to live with it until my disks for the new version of ubuntu come.

open up your tower's case (if you use a PC) and use a Compressed-air duster to clear away anything that may be clogging moving parts. :3

I've had the same problems too when I was using Breezy Badger - it's definitely a 5.10 thing. 6.06 should work fine - as my computer has had no problems with it.

Generally when linux locks up, it's caused by hardware being either misconfigured, a kernel bug relating to hardware, or, actually faulty hardware.
5.10 has had some hardware issues. 6.06 should help. If that doesn't work, next thing I'd try is a hardware test called memtest86 - it comes standard on a Gentoo liveCD and I'm sure there's other ways to get it - google for it. If that comes up as clean, I'd try to reinstall and reconfigure the box making sure you know exactly what hardware you have in it.

I know that the vista beta has MemTest86, as well as several distributions of linux that are made for live CD, mainly Knoppix. Upon boot Knoppix should give you the option of booting into Knoppix or Memtest 86, among other options. Aside from that, Knoppix itself has many integrated tools that were made for diagnostics.
