I don't know how many people here are Mormon, but apparently, teh LDS Church has made a statement to it's members, by reading in most of their Wards, that they should wite to congress expressing their views on homosexuality. This was of course, after they made clear what teh Churches views were on Homosexuality.

So, allow me to share MY views...

When this nation was formed, it came from teh People. The People rose up against oppressive rule, so that they could live a free life, so they could Worship how they pleased, when they please, what they pleased. They put a Government in power that would represent the people, and defend teh rights of the People, not just teh most common sect, but everyone. To quote teh Declaration of Independence;

Declaration of Independance
We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed, by their Creator, with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.

That to secure these Rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just Powers from the Consent of the Governed, that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these Ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its Foundation on such Principles, and organizing its Powers in such Form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.

Prudence indeed, will dictate, that Governments long established, should not be changed for light and transient Causes; and accordingly all Experience hath shewn, that Mankind are more disposed to suffer, while Evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the Forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long Train of Abuses and Usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object, evinces a Design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their Right, it is their Duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future Security


"Life, Liberty, adn the Pursuit of Happiness so long as it is convenient and conforms to teh Majority". Right? No, wait, that's not up there. Freedom, even for teh Minority. Even if the Majority disagrees with it.

And yet, there is still debate on this. There are still people thinking that simply because he's the little guy, he shouldn't be allowed teh rights I am. And over in Asia, people are risking their lives so they can Worship teh same God as people over here. And teh people here want to defend teh rights of that little guy, Why? Because he's a like-minded little guy. Well, ******** you. I want to defend teh rights of teh little guy over here, too. Not because I agree with him, not because I want to marry some other little guy, but because people died for this country, so that people could have the right to happiness. And Damnit, i'll die for that happiness, too. Because that's what this nation was founded on, that people are offered certain inalienable rights, and these people have every right to them.

So, a call to Arms, if you will. Spread teh word, we need to write to Congress, your senators, what have you. Don't just take my view, take your view, and defend it with your life. but don't let someone else tell you what your view is, tell them.

I totally agree. I think it's dumb how they banned gay marriage in Utah. Come on, if one couple gets married, it's not going to effect anyone but them and their family. It's so stupid!!

I couldn't agree more. The Bush administration thinks they have saved the sanctity of marriage by banning gay marriage, when really, all they have done is given mankind another reason to treat one another badly. It makes me sick!

I have found that I am way too liberal for my government class. This is something we go head-to-head on frequently...every class period, actually. Yayness for agreeing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ahh, the memories this brings back. Specifically, ninth grade Writing class, where we were asked to write an argumentative essay on the subject. I think I scared my teacher a little, because I was the only one who wrote in favor of gay marriage, or at least the only one with decent, appropriate arguments.

Well, being as I am Mormon (I am not brainwashed, thank you very much) I understand the fear that most people have for others immortals souls. That is true with any religious sect be it catholic, baptists, ect. While members did dump money into the campaign to ban Gay Marriage, so did -Other- churches. At least four major religions from what I remember. However there is a difference between Mormons and Utah Mormons + the Utah Mormon Happy Valley Culture. Instead of saying '******** the Mormons' you should really think about saying '******** the ultra Conservitives.'
I have many many gay friends and while I may not approve of it sometimes, I don't have the right to say that they cannot get married and share a life with each other. And even if it turned into a religious debate, even if I believed it was a sin, that is between them and God and I have no part in that discussion.
MY job, as has everyone who is christian, was set forth by Christ long ago in the edict 'Love thy neighbor.' There are many Mormons, especially those who live outside Utah that feel the same way. Our purpose is to love everyone even if we personally disapprove of their choices. I'm sure many people disapprove of my own. But that doesn't change what we are all supposed to do. That is love and care for the people around us.
Now as for Gay Marriage, please do something about it. If you are for giving them the choice to get married then vote for it. That's what I did.
