Marubaii asked me what the Death Posture was in the introduction thread so I thought it best to explain it here.
The Death Posture was popularized by Austin Spare, one of the grandfathers of one of the cores of Chaos Magick, Sigil magick. His way of doing sigil magick was to create the sigil, put himself in a meditative state, visualize the sigil for a period of time and then throw himself into the Death Posture.
The Death posture is where you basically hold onto your ankles and begin hyper-ventilating. After a couple of you stand up straight, up onto your toes, throw your arms out to the sides and hyper-ventilate even more. You then pass out due to the sudden rush of blood and the lack of oxygen. All while visualizing the sigil very strongly.
This is his method of "launching" the sigil. The other way of doing it is to orgasm while strongly visualizing it. Basically the blacking out or the orgasm forces the sigil into the subconscious. After which you forget all about the sigil and the working.

I have a rather intruiging thing to mention about blacking out due to lack of oxygen.
I am an athsmatic, and I have blacked out accidentally when using my inhaler.
The strange thing was that when my vision went out and I fell, I was not unconcious. I could feel my body falling and sliding down against the cabinets (I was standing on a rug in front of my kitchen sink, and the rug slid, bending my back backwards as I slid down). I was completely aware of where I was and what had happened, I simply coudln't move and my dody felt very numb and tingly.
Now are these sorts of sensations something abnormal, because I was of the impression that blacking out meant that you would be completely unconcious.

Sounds a little dangerous--not unlike that little "choking" thing kids are doing nowadays to get a rush, some ending fataly. Interesting concept nonetheless. I personally wouldn't do it, nor would I condone it, but if somone wants to put themselves at risk, that's their own problem.
Isn't that how hide from X-Japan died? Well, at least he died in orgasm. Fun way to die, but far too young.

Hmmm reminds me of some yoga style I heard of that is used in the GD, something like death posture, obviously not the same deal. Seems like it could certainly work, won't try it anytime soon. I have used the orgasm method of firing a sigil, works very well.

Have it about right, a sigil is a physical umm form for lack of a better word for your desire, now you want this desire to manifest right? So you need to give it a bit of energy, what better to do that then an easy orgasm? Tons of sex energy in a few minutes, and there goes your desire, fueled by your sex energy to manifest. Also sigils can be used as a way to communicate with entities, sorta like their signiture.

For the record, depriving your brain of oxygen is a fairly dangerious thing to do, almost bordering on stupid. Be real carful if you want to try this sort of s**t.
I knoe, ive been anemic, and i passed out a few times due to lack of oxygen, similar to muribii, like half concious and aware, but not in control. Personally i find the sensation really scary, 'cause i like to be in complete contol of my body, but whatever floats your boat I guess.

I don't use, or recommend, the death posture. There are other ways to launch your sigils.
The death posture isn't that dangerous, except if you bang your head on the way down. If you have every got up to fast and got dizzy because of it, then you have almost experienced it. Hyper-ventalating (breathing in and out really fast) isn't the same as the choking thing those kids do, because as soon as you pass out you start breathing again, and you do have some oxygen to the brain, just not enough when added to the blood rush, to keep you awake.
Just to comment on Marubaii's experience, I don't think that would be considered blacking out. Blacking out is when you lose conciousness. That was probably due to too much steroids in the blood stream. Oh, and I have some experience with those inhalors. Both my father and my girlfriend are athsmatic, so I have lived with an athsmatic nearly all my life.
To comment on what a sigil is, there are two types. One is the orginal type of sigil, which is a graphical respresentation of a name, normally an angelic or demonic one. Look in the key's of solomon for examples. The other type is what SoilWork said. A pictorial representation of a desire. I'll post a new thread for how to create one in a just a minute.
Oh, and pardon my spelling, it's late and I've been up for about 17 hours.

Hmm, I've heard of sigil magic before, and used it. Never in my original sources where I heard it from was firing mentioned. You took your desirer, turned it into the jumbled letters, turned it into a picture from, concentrated, destroyed the sigil, forgot about it. That was pretty much all the steps listed in that description.
This firing, what is it exactly? A way to generate energy to fuel the magic?
Now, making myself pass out doesn't sound like a healthy thing to do, and well, despite trying, I've never acheived orgasm. Not pressing the buttons the right way I suppose. >.>
Given that, what other methods of gathering energy are there? Would the standard sort of chanting, dancing etc. work?
