I just got through the end of the series today. Unlike a few people I know, I really liked it. It was a change of pace from the steady decline of DOOM, but it was nice.
Episode 25 was a real kick in the gut, the Shizuru and Natsuki scenerio really to me outdid anything else that could possibly done. I know some people were expecting Mikoto to kick the bucket, but I guess her surviving didn't surprise me, if she died, Mai would have, and killing the main character never happens unless EVERYONE dies.
The only things that really bugged me was the lack of other HiMES getting a kick at lord penisface. I hate Reito. I was thrilled that it was Mikoto that had the guts to lunge at him. That hurt though, ouch. ): Poor dear.
I was quite amused when he turned into Sauron though... xd
Thoughts on the end?

I. Hated. The ending. (for now. I'll probably get over it and later accept it... and then learn to like it somewhat.)
What the jesus s**t, dude?
SPOILERS HOLY OMGKTHX
It just resolved too quickly. Everything was put behind them so fast, and all of the 'sinners' were so easily forgiven. (Or just acted really stupid.) .... yeah, I'm getting at Shizuru there. <3
Blah. It' would have been better if some people would have stayed a little... dead.
As of now, it all seemed kind of stupid. Okay, fine. I was kinda like "Aw, yay Natsuki is baaack ;_;!" for 3 seconds.
But then what the hell? She made a pretty impressive effort to reach out to a psychotic lost cause because of friendship, (aww) finally realizing what was important to her all this time. *gasp* Because of that reason (and the glaring fact that she knew she'd never stand a chance against Kokuyou), she took herself out and had Shizuru go with her for one episode... only... to triumphantly return with her useless guns...? O_o
That just makes the whole Kamikaze Kuga vs Shady Shizuru showdown seem a lot less "dramatic." Not that the fighting was really dramatic in the first place. It was kind of corny how Natsuki got all 'Kamen Rider' crazy and started flying throught the air... but that level of nerdiness is no surprise coming from her. (Yes, it's painfully obvious who my favorite is. -_- )
And TCH at the animators for re-hashing Shizuru's weapon summoning thing from some earlier episode. Bad form, guys.
Every little sacrifice that was made just seems to lack any kind of impact now. "OH! Looky dat! My frog/ardvark chariot/dino horse/wolfy came back!! Gee, I learned my lesson. I love _______ lots and lots! I won't forget that now that I've taken out a second lease on life. biggrin "
Upon noting the fact that everyone seemed to be the new Resurrecting Jesus Doll, I was hoping for some kind of cliche grand battle in which the whole group would finally work as a team for once!!
They went through all the trouble of "awakening" and animating the damned HiMEs and they didn't even do anything but float around and look sparklepretty and yellow.
... and then Mai used some fire and gave KkK a good BBQ, the end.
BUT OH! It looks like someone's dying!!!! Could this be something worth remembering? "Loving someone can kill you." Of course not. It's just Mikoto playing possum. Yes, hunger kills children around the world. But not this child. sad
No one died. Not even Reito, who probably should have, due to the fact that he had some large evil in his body. :\
And wow. Let's all graduate from school/convert to nunnery/have mangy art spawn/start a karaoke club to show that we've reformed and learned SOMETHING from this huge mess of emotional turmoil.
Oh, and because she doesn't fit into those above categories, I'll mention the fact that Akira was wearing PINK... and a skirt. What the christ?
I'm sorry. I was miserable with all of the loss and pain. But I was impressed, at least. Now I'm just kind of disappointed. Albeit, rather slashy, but disappointed even still.
Although, I'm sure I'll get over this state of shock and confusion at some point. That'll probably result in me over analyzing _____ to try and redeem the ending for some reason.
Anyways, I'm gonna just go with the, "Writers got hate mail death threats, and chickened out. Thus creating this weird, twisted fantasy world where karaoke reigns and perverted ex-school presidents roam free" theory.
(I'll probably edit this when it's not so.... 5 or 6 am.... and I'm more coherent and less whiny. But you're not talking to yourself any more, Yuri-ho.)
Christ and a half, I'm so damned long winded.

Langalang> OMFG YEAH!
There was a lot that made me like KWTFOMFGGGJC! When Shizuru crying to Natsuki, I was like, "Well, okay, they went with the corny 'Everybody come back' ending, but at least people feel the need to, like, atone." Then Shizuru, Nao, and Yukino are all flying together and they're glarin', and Shizuru's like "Oh, it's okay! I murdered both of the people you love the most and raped Natsuki, but forgive me, ok? Let's be goofy friends! Tea and puppies for everyone!"
...wtf?
While I appreciate the pure comedy gold of Nao and Miyu becoming Nuns, WHERE IN THE ******** DID THAT COME FROM!!? Like Nao has EVER shown any interest in religion besides making Nuns flee in terror - or like Miyu cares about anything besides stabbing people in the eye what be messin' with Alyssa. It was randomly absurd, which is okay when the show is randomly absurd, but when it's spent the last 14 episodes convincing me it's going to be grimly serious, it just feels out of place.
Augh.
AND WHY THE ******** CAN'T PEOPLEZ HAVE WORKED OUT THAT MAI IS INTERESTED IN TATE AND VICE VERSA AND STOP WITH THE "Man, I'll win Tate/Mai's heart yet!" BULLSHIT! JFC! Tate *chose* Mai over Shiho in the battle between them (notice he didn't encourage Shiho to "Cut that damn dragon thing out of the sky"). And Reito should be able to work out that since he was *never* Mai's most precious person he hasn't got a snowball's chance in HELL.
And *why* was Shizuru still walking about? Did nakedicegirl bring back EVERY SINGLE PERSON she BRUTALLY MURDERED or something? Yay Shizuru wacky comedy and all, but she *did* go on a rather signicant killing spree that is generally frowned upon by the authorities.
The pink shirt skirt wearing ninja thing didn't bother me so much - now that Akira doesn't have to keep her gender a secret to keep people from targeting her as a HiME, maybe she decided she'd like try some different clothing options that would have gotten her strange looks when she was masquerading as a boy? Dunno. That wasn't so glaring as, say, everything else. Kind of like how Midori's ending didn't bother me - it didn't seem that out of place compared to say, most everything else.
And I agree. Everyone's sacrifice was basically trivialized - hell, over half of the show was trivialized - by the ending. It felt so inappropriately out of place, like a spitting contest at a funeral.
That said, I've seen worse endings. Comparatively, it wasn't that bad of an ending at all. I just had this hope that the ending was going to be fairly unique, and it ended up being trite. It really wasn't a terrible ending, it was just terrible in comparison to the rest of the otherwise excellent show.
I'm sure I'll have more to write later.

Well, it seems that Langley-dono and Sybrid-san summed it up for how I think. Sorry Yuri-kun. If the little tags on the names bother/annoy you all, please tell me so I'll stop sweatdrop
Letsee, what else can I say about the ending that hasn't already been said, besides the fact I felt like I was watching the last episode in fast forward. Everything was zooming by, and with little or no explanation.
But, yes, I don't want to go the path of the broken record, so I'll just start with this: This ending lacked sophistication, by ten fold. It almost reminds me of Scrapped Princess, where they pulled this crap right when the audience was already in a pit of depression. I actually liked the series for the most part but nooooo, that had to happen. I won't say anything else about SP in case anyone wants to see it.
I'm really sorry Yuri-kun, but I can't feel anything positive about this ending, as ironic as that is. There's just nothing about this ending that I haven't seen before (in general terms, since I don't see many androids become nuns either) and to be honest, I wasn't really depressed while watching the last few episodes either (Sacrificial Deaths = awesomeness), so the happy thing really backfired for me. More like pointed a boomstick in my face and pulled the trigger.
One more thing: Langley-dono, there's no way they could've pumped out this episode in a week, so I assume that the writers were pussies to begin with and had this sugar coated ending in the works from the very beginning. Although, they did a damn good job on tricking me that the show was full of crippling sadness. For that much, I applaud them. Clap clap.

AURGLK I KNOW!!!
If I could have had anyone stay DEAD, it'd be Shizuru. (As much as I still like her for some ungodly reason.) Not only did she kill two Child things, thus taking out the loved ones of their respective HiMEs , she actually went and CUT DOWN some other humans! biggrin Mkay, so a few of the girls actually threatened to kill people, but hey! Shizuru was the only one that indulged herself! biggrin And then she's all shits and giggles and molesting Natsuki again. Right. She should have promptly been locked away in a nut house.
True, the Nao and Miyu being nuns was funny. ******** unexpected, but still funny, seeing as Nao hasn't given up her twisted ways entirely. That's only slight consolation, though. I'm still "What the ********" ing over that because of how little sense it seems to make. (Much like the rest of the series now.) Perhaps it's some kind of... punishment for... I don't know, nearly making Sister YukariHo faint that one time with the confession thing. She's probably holding some kind of pregnant Nun Grudge.
As if Taters screaming "I LUFF TEH MAI!!!!!!!" down in Fukahell place didn't get the message across. Mai still seems pretty "ZOMG! REITO-HO!!!" and stuff. Or maybe the writers were trying to make amends for the sad and sadistic things they did in the past by leaving things open for some sort of sick 4 person Love Square. Also, Shiho-ho... what the ********? She's still acting like a complete twit and spreading the Octoplague. GET THE ******** OVER TATERS! HE DOES NOT WANT YOUR MALFORMED HEAD AND 50 PIGTAILS!!
That's what I was wondering about Shizuru. She went Insane Giggles for human meats, yet she's totally NOT IN PRISON and guilt free. What the ******** s**t? If I do recall, Natsuki was the only idiot to forgive her. Unless she went and apologized to Yukino, Haruka, Nao and her mother, and the families of the 834 First District guys that she murdered before graduation. That still doesn't give her an excuse to be disgustingly brainless and flouncing about molesting people.
It's not the fact that Akira was dressed like a girl. It's the fact that it was PINK. And Pink coming from someone who says "You're so feminine and weak! T__T..." She was the last person I expected to be going about in pink.
Akira/Takumi and Midori's ending were the only ones that seemed to make any sense for the characters. It was easily something that you could see them doing. The rest of the cast was just put on some incredible anti-depressants and thrown into the cherry blossoms of high school senselessness.
You're quite right. They went through so much trouble to depress everyone, only to explode with the happy once again. It was just... way too sudden. I've never seen an ending trivialize so much of a series like that. And everyone was happy about it, too. It just didn't make sense for a series ending. It would have probably done better as some sort of epilogue where you get to see everyone all reformed and happy for once in a long while. But right away seems like they were pushing it.
Or, again, maybe all Teh Sadniss was just the writers playing a cruel joke....

My guess on Shizuru bouncing around like a rabid happy ferret is her doing the hiding thing again. We know she hides well, her lack of telling anyone about her being a HiME or her pyscho-stalker love for Natsuki is proof of that.
Plus the girl is bananas anyway, she's supposed to be freaking weird. I didn't find it that out of character for her really. It was expected. I would have found it weird if she came back depressed around everyone else. I can see her being remorseful and guilty feeling when she's alone perhaps, (or just with Natsuki (: ) but we didn't see that for more than a minute at the end.
As for the cops, remember what Natsuki said to Mai in the begining? "The cops can't do anything." or whatever. Remember, most people don't know about these huge a** monster children, they'll have to find SOME way to explain it that doesn't involve a beast from the depths of some 'crazy' imagination.
Nao and Miyu being nuns probably surprised everyone. Don't you remember Yukariko's reaction? "WTF ARE YOU GUYS DOING HERE?!" Miyu probably does it out of lack of knowing anything else, as long as she's with Alyssa, she's happy. As for Nao, I think she's just being weird, and the writer's thought it'd be funny. The only other 'happy' ending that could've been shown for her is her being with her mom and dad, but that wouldn't work, they were in a coma and it'd be even cheaper imho if that had happened.
Shiho is still dumb because she's Shiho. She's a stupid little kid that is selfish and not going to get it, even after all that. Just makes me hate her dumb a** more. I felt bad for her for a little bit there, but after rewatching the first few episodes, I realized how selfish she really is.letting Mikoto lay there while screaming at Tater for cpr. Little whore.
I liked the lack of anything happening between Tate and Mai, because uhnm, ew. I don't like Tato head. He's dumb. And their relationship was stupid, there was no substance to it. They had one serious conversation the whole damn series before him screaming "I LUV YEW!11!!!!" Sounds like mindless lust to me. So the open ended lack of resolution made me happy. The ability to think about your own ending is something I tend to enjoy, because it's sort of a win win situation, you can think of how the characters would go on in your own way, instead of being boxed into a certain conclusion.
Shin - Don't apologize XD s'ok. <3

Yuri-kun - biggrin
Oh and about the whole "unclear relationship between Mai and Tatertot" - This reminds me a lot about InuYasha and Kagome. There are obvious feelings, but there is also no resolve to actually act on those feelings.
This also makes me thing about Shinji and Asuka (don't have a heart attack, Langley-dono xd ). That relationship is even more muddled and although a lot of dojinshi comics and the official games have embraced the idea of them being together, some people still argue that they'll never be together or want to, for that matter. When it's that way, I like how things are still up in the air, but at the same time, I'm a SxA fanboy 3nodding
Langley-dono - I completely forgot that Shizuru went on that murderous rampage and wasted all of those poor fools in the 1st district, but to be honest, they had it coming, so I'm glad she did it.
But, the fact that she would actually terminate two HiME Childs and all of those people in the 1st district ties back to her love for Natsuki, which I find admirable.
When she defeated Nao, she was in this entranced/totally pissed mode, at the fact that Nao threatened Natsuki's life. It was this twisted form of love that I find to be amazing, since Shizuru did all she could to not only prove what Natsuki means to her, she did it to protect her. She did all she could (considering she had denounced her power as President during the last moments of the show) and when she had power, she still protected Natsuki, submersively. It might be fanatical devotion, but devotion is still devotion to me.
This also parallels to Mokoto's struggle for true love, which was more blatantly spelled out for us (thank you again HiME writers!). In her search for it, she found a purpose and wrapped onto it with everything she had, which makes me admire her as well.
It seems a little desparate and shallow to forget everything in the past and adopt a new value, but that value wasn't really new at all. Her brother is her oldest memory and it dominated her newer ones. Well, for a bit, at least.
Mokoto, like Shizuru, did only what she had in her power, and that was the power to fight. Because of her reverence to her brother, she was prepared to cause herself and other people pain (i.e. slicing Shiho's crow in half). She was even prepared to be defeated by Mai, since it was Mai who was destined to become Kokuyou's wife, even though she didn't fully understand what would happen to her.
I know; blind devotion is not a good policy and it is foolish and destructive, but think about the core of why it happens. Love or 'true love' in this case for someone, something, or some cause can sway people to throw away all other values to adhere to one value. I find it hard to explain in a more general or real situation, and in a place where it can be seen in a positive light, since people like this are often closed minded and utterly fervent on their belief(s). I just talk about love in this case and doing what is in your cone of power to do.
EDIT - I thought I'd mention Akira in the pink skirt, since that seemed to bother a lot of you. It did kind of shock me too, since Akira changed so fast, but it's not that big of a deal, right?
Also, Shizuru and the raping thing: I guess there's no justification for that, is there? xp

This series really is "IN THE NAME OF LOVE!" Isn't it? xd I like how such a basic concept was contrived in such a different way through most of the series.
As for the comparing to Inu Yasha and Eva for relationships, damn, even those pairs had more substance than what we saw with Tater and Mai. There were nearly NO deep conversations between the two, so I don't see this strong strong feeling being possible. Hell, they didn't even talk that much at all as far as we know. It was more gawking and thinking of the one or two times they spoke. At least Kagome and Inu Yasha screamed each other's names and interact with each other.
Mikoto and Shizuru's devotions hurt everytime they'd kill someone, because the fact they were doing it out of love made it hurt so very much. They were acting on a strong feeling, and you know they did it cause they ran out of options, not because they wanted to. D:
Mikoto's hurt double for me because it was in the name of Reito +___+ And then she'd cry for Mai everytime. Ugh 3

Well, I think they had options, like the option to give up, for example. It was really a matter of 'how far will I go' sort of thing.
Tate and Mai had like 1 deep conversation, but they seemed to flirt and create awkward situations the rest of the time. InuYasha and Kagome were able to have a ton of deep conversations because there were 167 freaking episodes. That's how I see it anyway.
I'll put in more when I think of something o_o

The ending was ok. I wish Seito had died. Mikoto dying would have made it more meaningful too. I'm glad Akane was happy. Takumi and Akira's ending was ok. The Mai and Tate thing, come on, after all that and still no decision? Stupid. Shiho...Stupid. Like..he doesn't want you!! Nao and Miyu...How about NO!! Horrible. Nao should have been in the hospotal with her mom, Miyu shut down, and Alyssa with her father. But it seems like a LOT of time went by, since Yuakariko's belly was HUGE. The fight wen the Himes came back...wtf was that...? Combine your powers, team up, fuse your childs or something... Well, the game's ending is going to be different, hopefully thr "right" ending. I hope it comes out state-side...

I would find it kind of sad if Nao was just brooding in the hospital with her mom. ): I liked how she appeared to have moved on and become a little more trusting. The nun thing was odd. Miyu being shut down would've made me really really sad. Her and Alyssa made each other happy, so an ending with deactivation of Miyu would be a sad one for Alyssa, equivalent to a death in my mind. I wish Reito would've died as well cause like, ew, Reito.
