Hidden near the kitchens behind a large portrait of two Russian girls waltzing, the Hufflepuff common room is cellar-like without its large, soft armchairs and cozy sofas. Small, round tables are scattered among these. A large fireplace sits at one end of the nearly square room.

Toby marched into the common room in his usual discreet fashion, a blank look on his face. He strode, with eyes locked to the floor, to an empty table. He smiled to himself contently from his seat in the furthest corner of the room. Setting his books down with a light thud, he went over his agenda of homework assigments that needed to be completed. Potions. Charms. Transfiguration. Arithmancy. Why the hell do I take that bloody subject? Stupid numbers. With a feeling that he'd be doing homework until it was time for bed, he set to work, withdrawing a quill and some parchment.
An hour passed and his Potions homework was neatly completed. Then, he finished a short Charms assignment. Finishing up a Transfiguration essay, he moved on to the dreaded numerological crap. It was complex, but Toby understood it well. Even still, it was not remotely fun. Scratching a number onto a scrap piece of parchment, Toby's gaze locked onto the tip of the quill as it slowly moved across the page. His mind left the subject of numbers for the better part of a minute as his thoughts jumped nimbly to random things. Then, Toby, although seeming to be engulfed in the mystical world of numbers, was completely devoid of any consciousness. Safe, of course, for his worries.

Felix hopped, skipped and jumped down the stairs to the common room. He looked around at the warm room, taking in the various scents and pictures he saw as Leba swatted at his ear loab. He spotted a boy looking as though he was about to die of bordum -at least from what FeFe could gather- in the corner of the room and grinned.
"Wat hebben hier wij?" He let his cat jump to the ground and sauntered over to the boy. He'd seen him a few times before but never really got a chance to talk to him. The poor lad was always rather shy, and Felix was happy to see that he could cetch him all alone. He always looked so sad somehow...
Fefe plopped hiself ontop of the table that the brunette was currently working at, being careful to avoide the mounds of books. Both of his legs dangled on either side off of the table and he placed his hands inbetween a load of books in order to support himself comfterble on his hands. Golden eyes sparkling with new opertunity, Felix forgot himself.
"Groeten~ Hoe bent- Err, sorry, How are you?" he laughed slightly at his own mistake but continued with a smile.

Toby was still caught in his trance-like state when Felix, one of his roomates, approached him. The boy was one of the many boisterous, socially outgoing students who Toby had, for the most part, avoided through the course of his years at Hogwarts. In fact, he had rarely ever spoken to any of his fellow Hufflepuff roomates. He had always found it safest to stay in the Common Room, except for those dreadfully necessary times when he had to sleep.
"Can I help you?" Toby said, a little startled. His voice was unwavering, very flat, with a hint of condescension. What the hell is he doing talking to me?

Felix gave him a catlike grin. So he does speak! "Not really, but you look like you're getting rather sick of your homework." He swung his legs back and forth over the edge of the table, and Leba watched with interest. Eventually the kitten pounced, attacking Felix's ankle. "Gah! Dwaas katje!" He stuck his leg up so that it was even to the level of the table and pouted at the animal. Leba walked across his leg as if it was a bridge and plopped herself on his thigh. Felix put his foot back down and scratched Leba behind the ear, causing the kitten to pur. "Silly Leba, I'm talking to the nice boy. You already got enough attention."

Toby's lips tightened, which gave him a look that didn't appear too pleased. "Well, I am rather sick of it, but it's homework and it has to be done. Now, unless you came to help me with this Arithmancy homework, which, I don't expect you to understand," he held up his parchment and showed the complex number sequences written on it. "I do not understand why you bothered to approach me." The second the words left his mouth, Toby felt insanely guilty. He had a knack to tear into others, being the little p***k he was. Why can't I just be nice? Burning bridges was something Toby did well.

Felix pouted. No wonder the lad didn't have alot of friends, what with that attitude. I wonder what happend to make him so touchy...
Though any normal person would have given up on the spot after being shot down, Felix was not one to give in so easily. He was being nice, so why did the scowling brunette want him to leave? Now Felix was curious. And now he really wished he could remember this kid's name. Toddy? Tony? Tim?
He tugged the parchment out of the boy's hand. His eyes immediantly went to the top of the page. Toby, that was it! With a new found fuel Felix happily attempted another go at conversasion. "I 'botherd to approach you' because you looked lonely, and I don't like seeing people sad Toby. Toby..." He brought the paper down to his chin, tapping it against his lowed blackish lip. He tilted his head to the side and ponderd over the name, before getting an idea. "Like a Toblerone! The Yummy yummy chocolate thingies that come in triangles and have those little chewy chunks of toffy in it and- Yummmm. That's it! I'm gonna call you Toblerone now!" Felix blabberd happily, setting the paper back down on the table and before grinning at Toby.

Having the parchment taken out of his hands, Toby frowned. "It's actually Tobias. But Toby's fine." He looked down at the surface of the table thoughtfully. "And I'm not sad, " he added after a moment, in a soft, affirmative voice.
Recalling the prismatic muggle chocolate, Toby allowed a controlled smile to form on his face. "I suppose those are rather delectable. What they have to do with me, however, I have no idea." God, no. Don't call me that. What a strange name.

Felix tilted his head when Toby lowerd his. "Well, not sad, but still lonely..."
FeFe's eyes lit up when he saw the boy smile, even if it was only a little bit. Yay! Felix felt accomplished. He quickly began to form a story in his head. "Well, they could be like you 'cause they have lots of little good things in 'em that you're not expecting, and you're not exactly an open book. Then the chocolate could be that you always have a constant. Like I never see you without a stack of homework! Then the wrapping... You can make alot of nifty things out of it, so you could could do lots of things with your life!" Felix grinned triumphantly, before realizing that he probably sounded rediculous. He scratched the back of his head and laughed sheepishly, a light blush spreading across his olive toned skin.
"Sorry, my brain likes to get away from me sometimes. They are yummy though."

Toby stared at the boy, who seemed a little scatter-brained. "You sound absolutely ridiculous." And he did, although Toby didn't think it was an entirely negative thing. He found his attempts to create analogies somewhat endearing, but he wasn't quite ready to betray this thought to the boy, or anyone, for that matter. Nonetheless, he pursued Felix's last comment. "I noticed. Say, is that why you never do homework?" He paused a moment. "Does your inability to think make homework completely beneath you?"

((Ouf, that was kinda mean...))

Ouch. Okay, that was going a touch too far. However, now Felix was really intrigued. As soon as he appeared to be making good contact with the boy, Toby made another mean comment to push him away. Was it his fault for giving him the option to yell at him, or was it some weird defense mechanism?
As they said, curiosity killed the cat, and the same might soon be true for Felix. The boy tutted at Toby's question.
"Now now my little Toblerone. I think, just not in the same way you do. Knowledge doesn't always come from your text book, though I admit it's a good start. What I think makes you smarted is to start out from books and then grow the ideas in various ways.
And despite contrary beleif, I do do my homework- just at the last minute before it's due. Then I talk to the teachers about it so I don't fail!" He explained happily, flipping Toby's insult into something completely different.

((yesh, but Felix is too stupid to care ^_^))

This boy was rather friendly. It seemed he kept continuing with his advances into Toby's restricted space. "How nice for you. But there's a reason why I'm the prefect and you aren't." Normally, Toby hated to pull rank, as it brought more attention than he wanted. "Now go play with your other buff little jocky cronies. I might just take points from our own house if you misbehave." Toby found himself saying more and more things to the poor boy that he didn't really mean. It was almost as if words automatically flung themselves to assault the dignity of others. This was the reason Toby had little friends. He thought certain types of people were a little too 'different' for him. But since he had little intreaction with these types of people, Toby was unsure of how to proceed. It was like a pattern of behaviour had developed and Toby didn't know how to control it. He did know, however, that he got a certain sense of amusement out of verbally sparring with this boy. Mentally, he smiled. He hoped Felix was a good sport.

This boy was rather unfriendly. But, this was the third time Toby pushed him away, so maybe it would be the last? Three was magical like that.
"Congradulations for you then! I would be horrible as a prefect, so it's good that the rank went to someone who knows how to use it." He splutterd at the title Toby gave to his 'friends'. "Buff? Most of my friends wouldn't touch a broom if their lives depended on it. All the people I know that are on Quidditch are pretty much just aquantinces that I get along with. Actually..." He tilted his head for the third time while talking to the prudish boy in thought. "Most of the people I do hang out with are really just aquaintences. Sure, they talk and hang around me but I never really get around to getting into any deep stuff with them..." He 'huh'd as realization hit him. He'd never really thought about it, but once that train of thought had come to him it went off like a rocket. "Oh well. None of them really caught my attention enough to really care anyways." He smiled contently at the thought. None of them really did. They all just went along with what he was doing, never questioning anything he did or say. They really where just cronies after all. Toby on the otherhand was different so far. No matter how easy Felix had made himself avalible, Toby always made it difficult. Maybe that was why he was so persistant?

((bleeeehhhh. Aparently my intestines found out about my 'The Liver is Evil and Must Be Punished' bumper sticker and desided to retaliate. Yelch. Vomit is icky.))
PostPosted: Sat Sep 16, 2006 6:25 pm

Is there a reason why he talks so much? thought Toby. As soon as this thought appeared in his mind, however, it was replaced by a sense of excitement. At least he was getting attention from a boy (even if there wasn't a chance in hell there'd be any reciprocating feelings). He didn't know what to say to Felix's comments about friends and acquaintances. He frankly wasn't sure of what to say in terms of anything. "Well, then perhaps your girlfriend'd be glad to have a visit from you?" he suggested weakly. "I'm sure you have at least one of those."

((Sounds... very ick... //I'm just gonna assume that Toby doesn't know about Felix's 'preferences'.))

Felix shook his head cutely. "Notta one! Haven't since 3rd year, but she was too touchy feely, even for me- which is saying something-, and was much too simple minded. If anything I like complex people despite their gender." Eek. He just set himself up for a big burn and he knew it. But, he had a backup, and maybe Toby was starting to relax a little? Felix could hope.
