In the thread titled "Weaponline," I posted a huge rant about how stupid my director is, because she never puts me on weaponline. This is a slight continuation.
I've been trying out for weapon line for 3 years. I'm going to be a junior this year, and I was the only freshman to try out my freshman year. Last year, I was the only sophomore not to make the line. That pissed me off pretty bad, but I knew I'd make it this year. Also, my director said I'd probably spin some weapons last winter. I didn't. So this fall, I was sure I'd make it. Guess what? Last night, the weaponline was decided. I didn't make it. Again. Also, a sophomore made it. Even if I haven't been on the line, I've still been spinning longer than her!
There is no way to explain how much I want to kill my director right now. I'm not kidding. I'm so angry. I've been working my (excuse me, but) a** off for 3 freaking years. Rifle is my favorite piece of equipment, and I'm so sick of being stuck on flagline with the freshman nagging me and dealing with the annoying flag tech....
Oh, and also, hehr direktor said that I'd spin weapons this winter. Hmm.... isn't that what she said LAST YEAR?!
I apologize for ranting like this, but seriously. I'm tossing 5s. And they're not bad, either. I'll probably get a 6 out soon.
Is there anyone else out there who repeatedly doesn't make it, or is in a situation similar to mine? You may rant with me.

Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn...

My sophmore year I didn't make rifle line because my rifle tech only wanted 5 rifles... I was mad for a little while, but I wasn't as good as the others because I got my rifle last.

But I made it the next year...

From what you've said I think you need to have a long talk with your coach about this, if your crankin' out 5s almost 6s you would be on our rifle line so fast you woulden't know what hit you, I can't throw a 5 and I'm one of our stronger rifles (though Jon and Amy can beat me any day) I throw a solid triple and sometimes, if im lucky, a quad

You don't know my director. It's impossible to talk to her. Arguing with her is a nightmare. Even if you're right and she's wrong, she turns it around so you can't win. I've never heard her say, "Oh, my bad, I was wrong."
The woman is invincible. Nothing you say can hurt her. If I could, I would go up to her and yell, "You suck a**, Jen! F--- you!" and she would just stare at me with this blank expression on her face. She wouldn't kick me out, either. She'd just pretend it never happened and never mention it again, and that would drive me insane (which is exactly what she'd want).
I don't know how she does it. She just has this way to her, and not even her husband can get around it.

It's not like she hasn't talked to me about it, though. This is exactly how the night of the cut went:
The twelve still in the running were working on general tosses and stuff in the gym, and Jen came up to me (junior), Tori (a junior), Sonya (a senior with no weapon experience), and Kristen (a freshman), said to come with her. Left were eight people (5 seniors, 2 juniors, and a sophomore). On our way out, Jen called over her shoulder, "Okay, we're going to go cry now!" and took us to the hallway. So we all immediately were sure that we were off. How mean is that? In the hallway, she informed us that, as a matter of fact, Tori was still on, but only because she was on the line last year. If she hadn't been, I would be on this year in her place. It was almost the same thing last year - was only one person out of making it.
So is it always ME? Last year, she told me practically the same thing, that I was good enough, there just wasn't enough room on the line, and that I would make it next year. She's telling me the same thing every year.
I love guard, and I don't want to quit, but come on. I swear, if I don't make it this winter, and Jen tells me that same thing, she'll never see me again. If she does, it'll be me spinning for an independent guard. On their weaponline.

It's rough. It's way different for our lines because people very clearly can use their weapons, or else they suck pretty damn bad. There's not a lot anyone can say about it because they suck too much to even try to argue their way onto the weaponline.

Especially this year; between myself and the other two captains, there will be no crap and drama. You're there or you're not. Like that. No arguing and no promises. Wait and see.

I think your director sounds like an a**, though. And I wish I could think of something to help you with that.

Oh, gawd. Our guard is filled with so much drama, it's not even freakin funny. There's so much talking behind others' backs going on. I try to stay away from it. I get along with everyone in the guard. I don't fight with anyone, and if I ever have a problem with someone, I don't go telling anyone in the guard about it.
Like the sophomore that made it instead of me. I haven't gone to any other members and said anything mean about her. Basically because even though I've been working longer than her and feel I deserve to be on weaponline before her, I still love her and I just don't want to start any drama. Plus, it's not her fault, it's stupid Jen's.
Anyone else on the guard in my situation, however, would have gone and complained to half the other members about the poor girl by now. Now, I have complained about Jen to half the other members, but Jen deserves it.

I'm sorry but you guys need a new coach, this Jen person sux! in my guard people dont make it just because they made it last year (though we've never had a incident where some one didnt make it afer doing it the year before). I tottally agree with your wanting to quit and If you lived any where near me (south of boston in Mass.) I'd totally invite you to join the guard I'm on.(but you live in Ohio. c'est vrai, non?)

Mais oui. I tried looking up independent guards around here, but since my school has a really good guard, I don't think any of them would let me join.

I don't see why not... it shouldent matter what guard your from just weather or not you can spin the flag and rifle (there are also guards that will have you doing sabre). but good luck with that, if your on a WGI guard next year maybe I'll see you at a compitition biggrin

We don't have "wepon lines" at my school. There are only 8 girls on the team. We all do everything, no matter how good or bad someone is at it. Which kind of isn't fair, but hey, it has to happen.

Sorry that you didn't make it. *hugs* I really hope you make it next time around, especially if you're good.

For us to make the cut, we have to be able to toss a triple on the required weapon.

Usually we have to be able to toss a triple first on a rifle to make sabre. But since we're not using rifle for marching season [show calls for sabres] you have to get a triple on a sabre before we start making sabre work.

That's pretty much it. =]
