Welcome to the Catalan General Discussion! This is where we discuss everything related to the Catalan language, including, but not limited to:
-asking specific questions about Catalan vocabulary and grammar (people who can speak Catalan fluently can help answer others' questions)
-recommendations for Catalan dictionaries, websites, etc
-and everything else about the beautiful langauge spoken in Spain, Andorra, Italy and France! 3nodding
Please note that although speaking in Catalan is allowed here, it is not mandatory.

I like Catalan! I want to learn some stuff to make my Barcelonan buddy happy, cause she's a sweetheart... biggrin
She taught me these phrases:
M'agrada el castellà -- I love Spanish! mrgreen
De res -- You're welcome

I want to learn some stuff to make my Barcelonan buddy happy, cause she's a sweetheart... biggrin She taught me these phrases: M'agrada el castellà -- I love Spanish! mrgreen De res -- You're welcome heart I was looking at some phrases at www.101languages.net and It looks so similar to both french and spanish

I got the Catalan BYKI download, and it's like a cross between them, but with fewer confusing sounds biggrin I did my first Spanish oral presentation on the languages of Spain... So yeah... And my last presentation was on some news in Cataluña. I haven't exactly "picked up" any, but it seems easy enough to follow from Spanish and my tiny bit of French.

spanishnerd99 I love how it sounds. I should download that program, perhaps. yeah well I'll have to buy the "teach yourself" Catalan and use Rosetta stone (my 51 language program doesn't include it crying ) because my computer has "problems" I can't download BYKI

I would love to learn Catalan ones day. I was doing a project on Las Islas Balleras for my spanish class the other day and the website I went to was in Catalan and it looked like an interesting language.
Plus one of my goals in life is to live in Barcelona for a while ^^

I would say that Catalan is the prettiest of the Romance languages. mad D
And that's saying something; the Romance languages are known to be lovely (although they're not, in my opinion, prettier than Slavic languages by any means).
