So, I've been trying to keep up with the World Cup... I'm not an obsessive sports nut, I just have some teams I like to root for. Like... whatever team Beckham's playing for. xd
Just saw a news clip right now that Mexico won the last round, while the US lost to the Chzech Republic... 0-3. o_O*;
I mean, pretty much all the soccer players I've known were either women (of all ethnicities) or guys who were Latino. White guys all seem to either go out for football or baseball... sports that are almost exclusively American. I almost wonder if somehow there's some subconscious thing... that since American kids are so far behind the rest of the world scholastically, and the competition internationally in other sports is so tough, that they sort of gravitate toward the sports where they can say they're part of the elite... Or maybe I just think too much. sweatdrop

feh
I dont believe any of those scholastic statistics since they are done by people who...arent american. And as we all should know, the world tries to say bad things about america with everything. The europeans say we dont help out 3rd world countries, so we give 3rd world countries money, but then their government takes the money and says it isnt enough and then the europeans say that we dont help again. Endless cycle of anti-americanism! scream
but anyway, I dont like soccer, or should I say "football". Soccer to me is just a sport that rich white kids or latino kids play. I dont understand its appeal, infact, I dont understand all sports appeal. Im not a sports fan. sweatdrop

I can kinda see what's going on, though -- I mean, other countries are standing there with their arms crossed, saying, "You want to dictate that country's policies and laws? You want them to hold American ideals and be humanitarian in practice? Alright, you fund it. Because, of course, you've done so well on those issues within your own borders." I can understand not caring much for sports overall... I can't really get very much into any of them, myself. What does bug me are those guys who go on and on and on and on about football and nothing else, and anyone who doesn't agree that it's the most amazing sport in the world is less than human... and I used to work for one such putz, so that's not an exaggeration!

Baseball is loosing popularity here, and not many people care about hockey and soccer.

I was just getting into hockey about a year or so ago when they quit it all... i was pretty disappointed, lol. As for soccer, I've been trying to get into it, but I don't have cable or satellite, so I don't get to see most of the games. USA did pretty good the other day though smile

I remember when I'd take PE classes -- you don't want to know how long ago -- the hockey unit was one of the funnest. I actually liked being a pseudo-goalie (we didn't have the protective gear for an actual goalie, so I'd linger near the goal but always outside the crease). We didn't have soccer in the survey classes, though, and I was never anywhere near good enough at that to take the same class the soccer team did. xd
Tennis was actually my school sport, to be honest... cos, y'know... not many public schools have an equestrian team!
