People that have weight loss goals, questions on weight loss or anything eles related to weight loss can discuss here.

Why do people want to lose weight?

The main reasons for wanting to lose weight is appearance, health and self esteem. For many, having a slimmer body means a better self confidence and a chance to be more sociably acceptable. For others its merely a matter of wanting to be healthy. Weight is an important factor in many health problems. Cardiovascular disease is more common among those who have excessive fat, also by losing weight you can avoid many weight related diseases.

yay finally a new sticky!

ok, i'm trying to lose weight. i'm 5''7 and an unhealthy 183lbs, which means i'm overweight. my BMI is almost obese at 29.02! i want to lose weight for appearance reasons, but also for my health. i don't want diabetes or a high cholestoral and stuff, and my expanding waistline is over 40inches, which makes me more at risk for heart problems and stuff cos it should be under 35inches. i'm concentrating on shedding the excess fat and getting down to a healthy weight at the moment, which is 157lbs for me. then i would like to has a more svelte figure so i want to get down to 150lbs. after that i'd like to tone up seriously to have a bikini-ready body which should take me down to my ultimate dream weight of 140lbs. i'd have a good body even at this weight, cos i'm quite big-boned.

Well yes I would like to loose weight, appearance wise I feel fine, but I have had some comments that I should. Latest been from two gym instructors that assessed my fitness and ran me through the program.

Gym instructor
"Well lets see, your weight, 73kg (161lb), now we'll have to work on that...
Your BMI, we will have to work on that too, but that comes with loosing weight...
Your body fat percentage is 33%, now we will definantly have to work on that one!
And your VO2max, well that is well below average, we need to work on that one too."

Gees that made me feel so welcomed stare

I was shocked about the body fat percentage though, because I've actually lost some weight around my stomach and thighs, also my arms - which are now muscular - and it was still classed as overweight.

My VO2max is actually innaccurate. I have a high heartrate and when I did the fitness test, you're not meant to be able to talk. I was having a full conversation and when I wasn't talking, I was still breathing only out of my nose! It was dead easy, but because of my heart rate, it said I was severly unfit.

I'm aiming to get down to first off 70kg (154lb) back to my original size and what I usually was, but then aim for 65kg (143lb), but because I am medium to big boned, it may not look good. But if I get there and I like it, I'll stay that way. If not, then I'll put it back on.

I've actually been reccomended to get down to just under 60kg (so that I'm in the medium weight division for karate, not the heavy weight - 60kg>) but I've just basically told them to go to hell.

But I will only do it the healthy way! Exercise and a healthy diet.

Well, i was 16 years old and weighing in at 267 pounds. I went to the doctor and turns out i had a blood pressure of borderline heart attack.....at age 16!!!

So I looked into some weight loss programs, and I found LA Weight Loss. Its a GREAT program, and uses a balanced system of eating. I lost 100 pounds, and am at 165ish right now.

I'm now a gym rat, and can't miss a work out day of mine. I'll be entering a all natural (no roids or something of that sort) body building contest in April......at age 18! biggrin

I'm 5'3" and weigh about 185 pounds, which makes me decidedly obese. I'm trying to lose weight because I'm worried about health problems associated with obesity. Oh, and I'm sick of not being able to find pants that fit. Ideally, I'd like to weigh around 140 pounds, but I'm not sure that's going to happen, given that I've never actually lost weight before- it seems like I just put on muscle. Not that that's a bad thing, but I'm not sure that even when I'm completely healthy I'll be able to be within a normal weight range. I'm also not sure how much restricting how much I eat will slow my metabolism down. I guess I'll have to weight and see.
