Silence reigned in the vast room that contained the pedestal and the towering pillars covered in ancient runic designs. The stone ceiling arched high overhead, littered with visible cracks like black lightning scattered across a sand colored sky. The air, signifying the room had not seen any sunlight for some time with its stale, musty scent, was still; no breeze to stir it at present, and perhaps there never had been one to begin with.

The deathly stillness of the large room broke when soft footfalls clacked to life, reverberating off the stone walls and winding themselves around the pillars before fading away. The sound, very unmistakable in its pattern, grew increasingly louder until a tall, lithe form stepped out from the shadows in between two of the pillars; the figure's body shrouded in a long and flowing black cloak. Its movements were graceful as it entered the room; the ebony material reaching to just above the floor and obscuring even a glimpse of feet from view, creating the illusion that perhaps the being was floating just above the floor and not actually walking upon it. The illusion would have held true if not for the rhythmic sound of a woman's stiletto heels clicking against the stone floor as the figure moved.

Marahkleynehcia's pale hands, ending in long, wicked talons, slid from underneath her cloak and rose to gently push back the deep hood that hid her equally pale face. The tips of her talons dragged down along her large, curved horns before disappearing beneath the folds of her cloak, the friction between fingertip and horn creating a soft grating sound that sent a shiver up her spine. As her head tilted upwards lightly, raven hair fell away from her face to reveal her blank eyes, small, crimson veins running through their surfaces like fragile spider webs. Though it was impossible to tell where exactly she was looking, her gaze was trained on the pedestal in the center of the room, the focal point, something that was obviously forever stained by the blood of countless people.

The half-breed's eyes seem to glint cruelly as she continued to stare at the flat, reddish surface adorned with the strange marking. It seemed to call out to her, its silent voice lulling and filled with promises of power beyond anything she had ever known. Her blackened lids fluttered partway closed over her featureless eyes, her full, grey lips parting slightly as a shudder gripped her body.

As seducing as the beckoning was to her, she was no fool. She hadn't lived as long as she had by taking chances, and no matter how sweet she thought it would be now, the yearning to go to the pedestal set off a small alarm deep inside her; a streak of fear she had not known she possessed until coming across this alter that had more likely than not been home to scenes of bloody sacrifices over and over again. Melnok, the would-be seer, refused to step foot in this room, and thus had not done so since he came to this place. And she didn't blame him, if his power still lurked within his small frame perhaps this place was as dangerous to him as the lycans and vampires were.

Still, one couldn't help but wonder what would happen if he came here, or perhaps even touched the symbol on the pedestal...

Her pallid eyes flicked away and her bosom rose and fell in a soft gasp, the desires and the what-ifs of this place threatening to overwhelm her. She turned abruptly, her back being revealed to the seemingly malevolent creation in the center of the room, her hands slipping into view again as she reached up to pull the hood over her head once again. There was no point in staying here and dreaming up her own outcomes if she or Melnok or anyone else touched the symbol carved into the ancient stone, let alone allowed blood to be shed on it.

The stillness that had descended the room was once again broken as Marah's soft, clacking footsteps could be heard as she disappeared into the shadows; the sound slowly receding until it faded altogether. There was no point in thinking about it; she had no intention of ever going near it. No point in thinking about what may happen if a being of great power came into contact with the pedestal, or perhaps was even sacrificed upon it, their blood spilling free from the confines of their body to run, still warm, in crimson rivulets across the symbol; filling the etchings and splashing to the floor below.

But still, one couldn't help but wonder about such things.

* Tyrik awaits paitently for his orders, he had been away from the den for quite some time. Needing a break from the constant fighting, to have a chance to rest and heal from his many battles. he comes to his queen or the elder of the den.* My Mistress i have returned and ready to serve you in whatever way you may see fit * he gets down on one knee and bows respectivly to her as he speaks these words. he is quite well built and his seams that his recent injuries have healed quite well, showing no scarring.*

* for many years he had been a loyal subject to whomever reigned over the den. he had been especially loyal to the current elder, her having lead them much further then any others have ever come before her. in the war with the celestials, the constant reacurring war with the lycans and vampires, as well as the devils and other clans of demons. she had always proved a worthy apponent, so gaining the respect of all the demons in the den. especially the respect and unquestionable loyalty of Tyrik *

Marah's voided gaze lifted from the cracked floor to lock onto Tyrik's form as he approached her; lowering himself to one knee as he spoke, his head bowed. Her pale eyes, set against the darkened skin surrounding them, looked like glimmering pearls in a bed of ashes; they would have been perfect if not for the thin, jagged veins that marred their surfaces. When she spoke, her voice was soft and velvety, the rich tones melodious and seductive, though there was always the hint of commanding superiority underneath the erotic notes, whether she truly felt that way of the person she was addressing or not.

"Tyrik, it is good to have you back," The corners of her lush, blackened lips turned upwards in the slightest of smiles, her smooth, pallid face alight with genuine warmth upon seeing him. She leaned forward slightly, the heavy material of her cloak rustling softly as a slender hand appeared from within the folds and laid itself upon his shoulder. Perhaps the only other demon within her ranks that she truly cared for was this man kneeling before her, and she was not ashamed to show him this, just as she was not ashamed with her feelings for Melnok.

Her pale talons slipped from his shoulder after a moment and withdrew back into the confines of her cloak, her gaze studying him from behind a few wayward strands of raven hair. "There has been a small... lull... in the ongoing battles we have been fighting, and this is very troublesome to me. Melnok has received no visions pertaining to this matter yet either."

Or any other visions for that matter, she thought grimly to herself, her mind wandering for a moment to brood over the small demon's troubled attempts to receive a vision, or perhaps more importantly, his troubled sleep. Melnok was looking more exhausted and fragile by the day, and she was truly starting to worry for his sanity, perhaps even his life, but she couldn't focus on that now, she had other matters to attend to. Her serene face gave nothing away in the matter of her thoughts, though her eyes held a hint of despair in their milky depths, for her friend and the war her people waged. She was very tight-lipped when it came to her emotions, unless they were anger or annoyance, and she more often than not used her status as leader to cover for any pain or uncertainty she felt within herself.

"Even without a vision to aid us, I feel that perhaps we are on the eve of something truly significant," A small crease appeared between her ebony brows and she frowned lightly. "Perhaps something so great we will not see it coming until it is too late, but we must prepare the best we can I suppose. Be ready for anything at a moment's notice. Have you by any chance heard anything during your absence?"

* he slowly stands to his feet standing at some form of attention. he nods* i have heard that the there is some confusion on all sides. the celelstials are running ramped , the lycans and vampires have forgot all about us it has seamed. they are more preoccupide with thier own war to worry about us. that may be an advantage a would believe.* he pauses for a moment and looks over to Melnok* he appears quite exsausted ... i take it the war is not faring him well ... * his eyes show some worry about his fellow demon. he considered Melnok a friend and was often worried about his health.*

* he looks back to Marah and lowers his head as if he is thinking or remembering something.* there are rumors of the lycans planing something big against the vampires. something so big that it could end the war altogether ... it may be dangerous to us as well i suspect. * he looks to meet her gaze awaiting for his leader to say anything.*

Marah's tail twitched idly underneath her cloak as she listened to the news Tyrik told her. Had her wings been present, they would have unfurled in slight unrest as she pondered what he was saying. The celestials had not posed as great of a threat to them as the lycans and vampires had in the last few centuries, but with those two now focusing solely on each other, perhaps it was time the demons turned their attention to their polar opposites. Or perhaps they should just sit back and let the others do all the fighting for them.

"If the lycans and the vampires wish to exhaust their resources and their manpower on each other, I have no objection to that. Let them strive for victory while slaughtering each other, once the bloodshed is finished and only one remains they will be weak, having fought long and hard, lost a good number of their kin. That is the perfect time for us to strike." The half-breed's eyes glinted maliciously from within the darkened space of her hood, her black lips peeling away from her huge fangs in a wicked smile. "Their forces will be scattered, their weaponry low or even depleted. We would allow them no time to rest and regroup, we would spring on them, still battle weary, and crush them out of existence with a single blow."

As if to prove her point, long, slender talons rose from beneath her ebony cloak and clenched into a fist; the twisting tattoo along her muscled forearm almost seeming to glow. The smile was abruptly wiped from her face and she whirled her head around as a soft voice dared to make itself known from behind her; death clearly visible in her haunting eyes until she realized who it was that had spoken.

"Lady..." A shadow broke away from the others that lined a nearby wall and a small figure, clad in a dark brown robe, stepped into the soft lighting of the room; a pale hand with two fingers missing rose to brush ivory locks away from a severely mangled and visibly exhausted face. "You mustn't lose sight of the others in this war... the celestials."

Melnok's pale face shifted to Tyrik and he inclined his head slightly, a sign of appreciation for the other's worry for him. Though his face was free of any blindfold, his eyelids remained tightly shut over empty eye sockets. "I am glad that you are back, Tyrik. And you needn't worry for me... I may be small and hard to look at, but my body is not going to give up on me just yet..."

He grimaced lightly, the muscles in his jaws and throat working painfully. He had not spoken so much in a long, long time and though he tried to hide it, it was apparent that speaking still caused him pain. Turning his head back to Marah, it still surprised alot of the demons in the Lady's ranks that he could not see a thing, and yet his ability to know when someone is present before they speak or even move was close to uncanny. He took a soft, rickety breath and forced the words from his disfigured mouth, "The celestials may be thinking the same thing you are, Lady."

A soft, hissing sound accompanied his words as his breath was not only expelled through his lips, but the slits in his cheeks as well. He raised his left hand and spread his fingers wide in a helpless gesture, the remaining half of his thumb an ugly stump on his white hand, "Forgive me, for I have been unable to foresee anything... I have tried long and hard, yet I can no longer call upon my power at will..."

Marah half-turned her body towards Melnok, the talons of her clenched fist having loosened while the small demon was speaking, they now reached up and hooked the hem of her hood; pulling it back from her face. Her large horns caught the dull light and glittered as she shook her head, their mottled surfaces seeming to be littered with flecks of gold. "No Melnok, you need not apologize for anything, you have done more than enough. Too much, in fact, you should be resting now as I told you to."

Her stony expression softened as she gazed at the small, pale demon a few yards from her and Tyrik. With the ragged clothing he refused to change out of, his wild ivory hair, the countless scars and missing body parts, she had never in her long life felt this degree of pity and compassion for anyone before. Or the almost overwhelming urge and want to nuture and protect.

A soft sigh passed through her parted lips and she turned her gaze up to Tyrik, "He is right though, perhaps I was too eager at the prospect of possibly taking either the vampires or the lycans out of the picture. Who knows, they may even destroy each other themselves," Her shoulders rolled lightly under the heavy material of her cloak and she gave Melnok the faintest of smiles before addressing Tyrik again, "We must not forget the celestials... or the humans for that matter, they may become worthy opponents soon enough. Do you know what the lycans are planning? I hate to think you are right in this instance and that their attack on the vampires may turn out to be dangerous for us as well. But, if it is so, then we must learn of their plan and come up with a counter plan of our own."

* his gaze meets with hers again and he seams to pause for a moment, almost as in he is trying to think o the right words to say.* from what i have heard so far ... they are looking for a human ... but not just any human ... there is a specific one they are looking for. i am not yet sure as too which one exactlly, but they are searching none stop for this individual.

* he takes lower head and his hand and gently rests it on his chin* its quite strange however ... i dont see why they would want to look for a human ... its something i dont quite understand.* he looks back to her, his hazel eyes seam to glow lightly in the darkness.*

Marah's gaze narrowed slightly and she pursed her lips, turning them into an unattractive black slash across the pale skin of her face. Her line of sight dropped from Tyrik's face for a moment and focused on a point no one but she could see. The news of the lycans looking for a human was indeed a surprise, if not an outright shock; something she would never have been able to guess. A human? Why? What could they possibly need a human for? Her blank gaze shifted to Melnok and, though she didn't say anything to him, he lifted his hands lightly and shrugged in a helpless gesture, as if to say, Sorry Charlie, no visions have hit me yet.

Her tail lashed behind her and she let out a soft huff through her nostrils, her agitation apparent in the way her shoulders tensed. She wasn't annoyed with Melnok, or even Tyrik, but the fact that the lycans were looking for a human and they didn't know why tipped her scales in the wrong direction. Not a lot, but they tipped just the same.

"We need to find out why they are looking for a human," She stated through clenched teeth, her eyes flashing dangerously. "We will not start a search ourselves, not yet, we must learn why they are looking in the first place, then perhaps it will be in our interest to try and locate this human before anyone else does."

Melnok remained silent as he listened to Marah speak, though he did visibly flinch at the tension that strained her beautiful voice. He tilted his head downwards, ivory strands of tangled hair sliding forward to shield his closed eyes from view. Shifting his small weight from one foot to the other caused him to grimace as a dull pain coursed through his body, but still he remained silent.

A stab of guilt at having received no visions pierced his chest, and his delicate hands clenched into loose fists at his sides. Though it was not his fault (and anyone could have told him that), he mentally chastised himself for being unable to call upon his power. Had he been able to, he would have been able to tell Marah exactly why the lycans were looking for a human, and perhaps even who it was and where he or she could be found. That is, if they ended up finding him or her. The demon could not obtain visions of something that was only a what-if; it needed to be fact.

A nearly silent hiss of shame and fatigue leaked its way out through the crisscrossing stitches on the sides of Melnok's face, his slender body swaying unsteadily, as if he may collapse at any moment. His arms and legs ached from being without rest for so long, and his mind swam, making deep thought send agonizing spikes of pain through his skull, but he would not rest until he was able to help his Lady, whether by being gifted with a vision or some other way, he would not rest...

* Tyrik nods as in agreement to his leaders comments.* i agree ... it would be foolish to go and try to search for something that we know nothing about ... however ... we do need to gain some form of information ... as to how we do that ... i'm not too sure... * he lowers his head for a moment in thought* its too bad that we cannot locate the lycans base of operations ...at least then we would be able to gain some form of information ... get some audio feed or video feed ... * his eyes widen for a moment.* oh yes before i forget ... * he reaches into his pockets and pulls out two small boxes.*

Gifts for you both * he smirks a bit and hands them each a box* i had these made on my time off, and i thought they would suit you if not help you in some way. Marah ... yours is a braclet of synergy ... i did some research and the design is ment to help focus your thoughts.... Melnok ... for you ... i got you something that will prove quite useful if it works ... i had heard that you were having trouble with your visions ... so i had a pendent with a clear crystal embeded in it ... i had hoped that you would be able to use it to perhaps to focus for your visions * he smiles at his small friend.*

(( if you want him to have a vision i dont really mind, but where his power is weaked, he would most likly only have a little bit of information to tell you ... weither it be a discription of a person, or a location. but not much more then that. ^_^ ))

(( I'm hoping the vision is okay, if not, you can PM me and suggest something if you want and I'll change it. ^^;; ))

Marah raised one pale, slender hand from underneath her cloak and gently touched her chin with her fingers; her other hand lightly cupping her elbow. The black, heavy material of her cloak seemed to absorb any light that touched it as she moved; seeming more like an oddly shaped hole than perhaps fabric covering a lithe body.

Tyrik was right, they needed to learn more, but how? Those damned lycans had kept their base of operations from the demons for too long, but it seemed like they would never find it. It had to be somewhere close by, in the same subway tunnels perhaps, or even the sewers than ran akin to the tunnels. She let out a soft, frustrated sigh, her milky eyes glinting softly as she raised her head and looked at Tyrik. "We just have to keep searching, they must be around here somewhere. We have to find them."

She blinked, surprised as the other demon produced two small boxes and handed one of them to her. Her tail flicked under her cloak, brushing against her shapely legs and she eyed the gift with a hint of curiosity, and not without some suspicion as well. She knew Tyrik would never betray, as she would never betray him, but even so, her paranoia was as much a part of her as her lust for blood.

She lifted the lid of the small box, absently perking her slender ears and listening to the taller demon as he spoke. Her blank eyes landed on the bracelet that was inside and a small smile crept unto her dark lips. The bracelet was gold and silver (white gold, or perhaps platinum? Marah couldn't tell in this lighting) twisting and linking together along its length, the designs inlaid with rubies and emeralds along the way. The corners of her dark grey lips twitched upwards in the smallest of smiles as she slipped the bracelet around her right wrist. She turned her milky, blank eyes up to Tyrik's and bowed her head slightly in gratitude for the gift.

Melnok again listened to Marah's words with a slight frown, the tension in her voice setting a small spike of worry loose in his gut. He hated it when she was like this, and yet she was rarely not like this the small demon supposed. It was simply her nature, and he could not change her. His head tilted lightly and his eyebrows raised marginally as Tyrik handed her something, and then proceeded to hold something out to the white-haired demon as well. He also paused before taking it, his small, disfigured form almost seeming to shrink in on itself for a moment.

Unlike Marah, however, he was hesitant in taking the gift for entirely different reasons, but in the end (and perhaps solely because Marah had taken hers), he reached forward with his remaining fingers and gently grasped the box in his small hands. After another brief hesitation he lifted the lid and slipped it onto the bottom of the box, his face quizzical and eyelids still closed as he reached into it and pulled out the necklace and pendant. He could feel the pendant was octagon in shape, and though he wasn't able to see the colors he felt the difference between the crystal and the metal.

Running what was left of his left thumb over the surface of the pendant before separating the chain and gingerly pulling it over his unruly hair, letting the chain fall around his neck and the crystal land against his slender chest with a soft, hollow thud. He turned his scarred face towards Tyrik, literally craning his neck upwards before bowing, his bow deeper than Marah's had been and brought from the waist up, not just his head. A small grimace of pain passed over his imperfect features as he straightened, his voice soft, words slurred as a soft hiss accompanied certain syllables, "Thank you, Tyrik, it has been long since I have received a gift."

With that he was going to retreat away from the pair and leave them to their conversation, melding back into the shadows as he so often did, but something struck him. Cold. That's what it was; he had suddenly gotten colder, a lot colder, but how could that be? The tunnels were usually dank and warm, if not stifling. He had only taken a few shuffling steps away from the two demons when he had stopped, and now he swayed on his short legs, ivory strands of matted hair falling in front of his pallid, ruined face. His back was to them, so when he tilted his head heavenward they couldn't see his mouth fall open, the separated sides of his cheeks strained against the black, X-shaped stitching that held them together. His sunken lids twitched and then fluttered open, exposing gaping holes where eyes once had been; their black depths sparking with a cold, pale blue light.

Always one way or the other. It was either like watching a movie, where you saw what was happening but weren't actually there, or it was like being a ghost, you were there, but no one saw you. Though they must have at least felt the small demon, because they never went through him or touched him in any way; no matter how crowded the area that he saw was, they always swerved around him.

He was in a subway of some kind, the smells and noises like all the other subways out there, but somehow he knew this one was the same one that his Lady and her clan occupied. One of them, or somewhere very close by anyway. He waited a moment, his small figure being lost in the noise and hustle all around him, people busy with their owns lives and marching straight towards him only to veer off at the last second, not even noticing they were doing it. He glanced around, taking in the number of the subway in the station, the adds along the walls, the names of the streets on the signs, It's not like any of this would come in handy for
him, but later, when the vision was over he could relay this information to Marah, and it would be handy for her.

Oh yes, very handy indeed.

He took a few slow, small steps forward, the crowd parting as he moved, and stopped again. He saw nothing important here, nothing out of place, just dozens of humans boarding and coming off the subway, on their way to or from work, on their way home or to large towers of glass and steel. Then he felt it, a slight tug in his midsection, like an invisible string that wound around him was just pulled. He turned towards the steps that led out onto the street above, but saw nothing there either. And yet he
felt something, they were coming. Vampires? Lycans? A different sect of demons? He couldn't tell, but he knew they were not human. Something important was going to happen right here. He stood frozen, the cold from the floor seeping into his bare feet as his eye sockets glared darkly, void of the eyes that one needed to see with, and yet he was able to see just the same.

It was going to happen. They were coming...

At that exact moment, Melnok's fragile body shuddered and his lids slid shut over his empty sockets, the power coursing through his body to produce the vision too much for him to bear any longer and he crumpled to the floor in a heap, his breath shallow and his pallid skin covered in a thin layer of sweat. The pendant he wore clinked loudly against the floor as he fainted, the crystal embedded their twinkling dully in the dim light, and his sudden collapse cause Marah to spin towards him and fly to his side before the sound the pendant had made had stopped echoing off the walls.

(( hehe that was awsome ^^ ))

this was the first time that Tyric had ever seen Melnok like that , it worried him because he felt the small demon to be like a younger brother. he hurried over to him and kneeled down to him. looking up to Marah ." is he alright? ... he looks quite shaken up." never having seen when Melnok had a vision, this was completly new to him. he waited for her to answer him while he looked over Melnok to see if he was still alright and didnt need any medical attention. but only seeing that he was apparently just shook up and not seriously hurt other then his previous wounds. he sighed and waited.

Marah had secured the bracelet around her left wrist before Melnok had collapsed, and now knelt by the fallen demon's side, her ebony cloak pooling out about her like liquid darkness. She bent forward slightly, her pale, slender arms coming out from beneath the folds of cloth to gently lift Melnok's body slightly. She placed his head in her lap and gently brushed his tussled bangs away from his slack face, being careful that her long fingernails didn't get caught in the tangles. She tilted her head downwards a little, her other hand gently folding around his as her hair fell forward and framed her face like a curtain of shadows.

"I believe he will be fine," She replied softly, her opaque, vein-webbed eyes oddly conveying an almost maternal emotion as she gazed down at the small, unconscious demon. The long, slender fingers of one hand caressed his forehead, the tattoo wrapped around her forearm glittering, and her grey lips twitched into a small smile. "He had a vision... after all this time with nothing he was gifted again. It must have been a powerful one to drain him so, he will be fine after he rests, we all know he could use it."
PostPosted: Mon Aug 15, 2005 8:08 pm

with a sigh of relief he nods " that is good to know ... i have never witness him having a vision before ... it was quite a shock ... " with still much concern on his face he smiles lightly. " perhaps i should take him to his quarters for a while so that he may rest. " he asks her, with a little bit of hesitation. his eyes remaining securely on the two demons.

still kneeling beside the two he stays at the level which they are at and waits for her to give the ok or the no for moving him. he figured that she herself may wish to take him or perhaps just make where he is more comfortable instead so as not to move him.
