Since writing is the way this game is played, I figured we should have a topic regarding writing. Also, I'm bored. This could be a place where we discuss different techniques or provide tips. It's also a good place for patting people on the back for an especially delicious post. It's probably not a good place for proofreading because it would prematurely reveal additions to the story.

This can mean only one thing.
It's time for Zach's list of overused, but still effective, beginning post techniques.

Number 1: The Dream.

An instant classic, the Dream is a great way to introduce some of your character's past and/or personality. Whether it's the "frolicking in fields with childhood love who has since tragically died," or the "Oh my god I've never seen any of this before so it must be my destiny," nothing brings a character directly into play quite like sitting up in shock in bed, panting and trying to figure out what he just saw.

more to come later...

Don't forget the Dream's more disturbed cousin, the Flashback.

Useful for Rambo-types. Well, not Tron though; he'll have to figure out the whole spaceship thing himself.

I must say, the spaniard's introductory post is absolutely amazing. I vote kudos. For the hysterics overwhelm me...

I have succeeded in my endeavors for hilarity. xd

[Writing Cliché Continued...]
The Mysterious contact - be it a letter, note, phone call, email, etc. The mysterious contact, although typically reserved for mods and storytellers, can effectively hook an otherwise unremarkable character into any storyline. The Mysterious Contact is a tricky resource to employ, because one requires implicit knowledge of the plotline (or at least a general sense of the conspiracy) to hope that it will eventually tie in. While it leaves a big loose end, the Mysterious Contact provides motivation, a connection to something bigger, and a hint of danger to any character's fledgling steps.

Mitch is especially unremarkable. I guess he's a shoe-in for a secret admirer.

...gazing at one of two copies of his final report card (the other of which is in the mail) as though his eyelids had been amputated with papercuts and sterilized with boiling vinegar, only in a slightly less whimsical manner.

burning_eyes I have to give mad props to this simile. Hellz yes! I love the visual! It so gleefully painful! twisted

Thank you. I made it up myself. Isn't it beautiful? Like a graceful swan calmly bursting into flame. Anyway, it's nice to recieve a positive comment once in a while.

The similie entirely receives all of its appeal from the use of Whimsical. you all know this.

and manner, manner's a good word too, but a bit ordinairy when placed next to whimsical.

Hey guys, you think we should have some kind of writing competition and turn it into another way of recruiting? It doesn't even have to be related to the League. Somebody who wants to participate but not actually write anything could be our judge and others can hold a friendly writing competition. Of course, there'd be rewards in it.

Questions:

1) How do we turn it into recruitment?

2) What is the prize and how do we get it?

3) Anybody elkse interested?

I don't know, Mayday. I personally would choose home-starts because they introduce a sort of home base and also... if you say you're going somewhere, you can stock up on what you may need at home. Though trust me, mine's nothing great.

And if I don't make Gatta a character (I'm beginning to have doubts, the character concept was so good until I had to think of the practical details) but do add a new character I must say that some of the ones I've now read will give mine a slight base.

Though I doubt that mine's going to be as good as the vinegaring eyeballs.
