i have mandriva on my external hdd and now when i boot it thats what it says.. i probably messed the mbr up somehow i have some stuff i need from there and i know the harddisk is fine because i can mount it from slackware and suse. does anyone know what to do? i've done fsck and it detected nothing.

How did you have LILO/GRUB setup, check that it's ok, or if it's not the boot-loader it could be the kernel.

pretty sure its the mbr on my hdd because it used to work fine until i "fixed" it with this stupid windows app (partition magic)

YEA did you know That linux doesn't have to defrag if your only use ing it lol I bet it's becuse windows messes up the hard drive evil

Sounds like your lilo/grub config to me.

With out knowing more info, though, such as partition location and stuff, I couldn't suggest how to fix it.
