Right now all I've been listening to has been The Lunachicks, but earlier today I revisited Ani DiFranco and it was pure bliss. Seeing Le Tigre was pretty cool, but actually meeting Kathleen Hanna was amazing. She is my godess. Bikini Kill is my all time favorite feminist band.

I compiled a list of feminist songs awhile back based on their lyrics, and I still haven't gotten around to listening to all of them. But, since I'm an oldie/folk type of music, I'd say Peggy Seeger is a genius with her words. Ani DiFranco I like , but not only because of her feminist music, she's an interesting artist all-around. b***h & Animal (who broke up) had generally odd music, but it tended to be pretty good. I'll see what else I can dig up later.
EDIT: Here we go, these are artists with at least one feminist or pro-woman song: India Arie John Lennon Neneh Cherry Sweet Honey in the Rock Lesley Gore Helen Reddy Aretha Franklin (No, I'm not talking about Respect.) PJ Harvey (a genius in her own right.) Alanis Morissette Dar Williams Heavens to Betsy Tracy Chapman Gerri Gribi Kirsty MacColl Magneta Lane Le Tigre Sinéad O’Connor Joan Jett Madison Avenue 7 Year b***h Alice Cooper Peter Gabriel Bikini Kill Holly Near Ferron Crass Brenda Weiler Eurythmics

I don't listen to most music that normal people listen to. I doubt I've even heard a feminist song.

What's interesting is how alot of feminists I know think Christina Aguilara is a "dumb slut" and she has some very feminist songs. "Can't Hold Us Down" and "Fighter" are very good examples of this.
Hmm... Other than that I don't really know of any feminist bands. Most of the bands I listen to happen to be made up of men. I didn't choose this intentionally of course, but that's just how it happened I guess. Good music is good music no matter what gender the musicians are.

Any feminist who will oust a woman as a "slut" is no feminist in my book. As for feminist bands. I cannot say I actively listen to any. I love Ani Difranco though.

Some bands/artists that aren't "feminist" per se but have many feminist messages in their songs: Submission Hold Sleater-Kinney The Slits Crass Tori Amos Peaches (who's outright feminist)
Propagandhi has a couple of pro-woman songs as well, which are very good.
And I can't wait to look into all of the other bands that have been listed on this page. heart

I don't listen to a lot of new music. I probably should find some new grrl-friendly bands. I do like The Two Funerals, though. They're on Myspace, awesome, and have a CD coming out soon.

I like Kittie, they're all girls... Dunno if they're feminist though? and as far as bands that support feminism... Nirvana, particularly Kurt Cobain, was a big supporter. smile
